McCain's Saddleback Grand Slam
humanevents.com ^ | 08/18/2008 | Jed Babbin

Barack Obama bumped into something hard on Saturday night. The nuanced naif of Illinois preceded -- in Paris Hilton’s wonderful snark -- the “wrinkly white-haired dude” in Pastor Rick Warren’s civility summit and came up very short.

You can judge how well McCain did by the minimalist coverage in the media. The highlights reported here were virtually ignored in the Sunday papers.

McCain has never been better. His self deprecation, his humor, and his life story turned the back-to-back interviews into a conclusive demonstration that he is ready for the presidency and Obama isn’t.

McCain was energized, comfortable and quietly eloquent in explaining why his life proves the most important of qualities in a president: character and core beliefs. Obama -- consistently charming and shallow -- demonstrated neither of those qualities.

John McCain was a prisoner of the North Vietnamese for more than five years. Researching an article four years ago on John Kerry’s antiwar activities during many of those same years, I interviewed more than a half-dozen of McCain’s fellow POWs. Each of them, in much the same words, said “I wouldn’t be alive today but for the personal courage of John McCain.”

That courage was explained, calmly, by McCain when Warren asked him to describe the most difficult “gut-wrenching” decision in his life.

McCain answered, “It was long ago and far away in a prison camp in North Vietnam. My father was a high ranking admiral. The Vietnamese came and said that I could leave prison early. And we had a code of conduct that said you only leave by order of capture.

McCain was energized,...

I believe McCain lied when he said that decision was difficult for him to make. He knew he would be tortured more, but it was a matter of commitment, principal and honor.

The principals of “Duty, Honor, Country” mean nothing to Obama whereas McCain has lived them his entire life. In hard decisions the difference shows.

Time for the half dozen McCain bashers here to apologize....

WHY?
Is this interview
going to translate into any vote for McCain that did not exist last week?
Was there a promise made by McCain to honor Americas soverienty and not give 12 million illegals citizenship? Was there an ackknowledgement that McCain /Fiengold was a mistake and is not working as desired?
I have never questioned that McCain would be a better option for America then Obama. Our cat would be a better option then Obama.
But did McCain do or say anything to convince Americans that he was the best choice available out there?

And the biggest apology needs to come from the "pilonidal cyst" 4-F loudmouth who ducked Vietnam and broadcasts over the EIB network from 12-3 each day!

Wow, only a half dozen? Was there a lot more to this article than what is shown here in the thread? If not, I don't see much to convince McCain bashers to change their mind. We already knew Obama is an empty suit.

According to this poster, yes:

My wife said this is all they talked about in her women’s Sunday school session today. Several of the ladies who had been leaning Obama, were now solidly McCain after watching last nights “debate”. A couple said Obama showed he didn’t have any substance.

Do not forget that McCain demanded that the United States stop looking our missing POWs and MIAs. All under the pretense of achieving better relations with North Viet Nam.

Anyone know if this was posted on you-tube or if it is available for download some where... I tuned in while Obama was still on, got bored with the political hack and changed channels. Unfortunately I fell asleep soon after. I would like to see McCains interview. I still don't like McCain but would be interested in what he has to say. This does not mean I wont vote for Mr. McCain he is better than that worm Obama... but then a blind, castrated chihuahua is better than Obama.

For what? His "performance"?

One interview will not erase years of deconstruction of conservatism. I will always see McCain as a very watered down conservative. Heck, he WANTS to be known as a maverick - defying many aspects of conservatism.

How did McCain hearing or not hearing a Question given to Obombo have anything to do with Obombo giving the pathetic performance he gave ?
