In Panama City, Florida, today, per ABC News Bret Hovell, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said of his new web video mocking Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, as a false messiah, "we were having some fun. We were having some fun with our supporters that we sent it out to and we're gonna display a sense of humor in this campaign. I noticed a couple of days ago that Senator Obama challenged me to a duel. Well, light sabers is my weapon of choice.
"But seriously if we have differences, we should have appeared at the Urban League convention today," McCain continued. "I've asked him time after time to appear with me on the same stage so we can discuss the issues that are important to the American people."
Asked if his mocking tone undermines his previously stated desire to run a respectful campaign, McCain said, "This is a very respectful campaign. I've repeated my admiration and respect for Senator Obama. That clip is of Charlton Heston. It's a movie. ...So, I really appreciated the movie and I appreciated Charlton Heston's magnificent acting skills as I saw it, but it's a movie."
On whether the campaign's general tone has been negative, McCain said, "I dont think our campaign is negative in the slightest. Im, we think its got a lot of humor in it and were having fun and enjoying it. And that is what campaigns are going to be like, thats what every campaign that I have been involved in I am going to enjoy it and Im the underdog. And we will continue to fight and scrap all the way till November the fourth."
The Obama campaign has called McCain's new ads, including the TV ad that likens Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, as "juvenile antics" that have helped them raise money.
Funny ad, its just on the web tho.
humor is a great tactic. Obama can’t possibly compete in that realm.
Hilarious ad. Although I did see Fox News air it about 10 minutes ago. So at least briefly it did make it to TV.
I think a drilling/gas prices/energy policy ad (particularly given the lights out in the House today) would be an excellent follow up.
I admit it. I LOL'ed!
...And now that it's out there, I'm sure some video-wizard will put a light-saber duel between the two of them on You-Tube any day now!
I saw it on TV, so it's getting out there. I think it's hilarious, and I hope McCain plays it over and over until the election.
At least until the networks run it as they discuss their outrage. Free advertising. :)
McCain has a sense of humor.
Obama has a foul temper and coming off as crabby.
And the Obama camp purses its lips like a school marm and calls in juvenile. LOL

Yep. Ridicule is deadly to the pathological narcssist. We may see a first: A presidential candidate have a mental meltdown in the midst of a campaign.
Boy oh boy, is that a funny ad. Hilarious.
Are you kidding me?? The second it came out, Rush was playing the audio to his 20 million listeners and commenting on it. Later (of course) Sean "me too" Hannity followed suit. It was shown on CNN with Blitzer and discussed, it was on MSNBC, with Barnicle and with Gregory. It was shown on Fox News. Shall I go on?
This is brilliant marketing. Reminds me of Huckabee. The trick isn't to spend a crapload of money on airtime. The trick is to post it on the web for free, and have it be so newsworthy that it gets FREE coverage in prime time for a few days.
Excellent job, McCain!
John Edwards promised to make the lame to walk... Not sure how that's working out for him./sarc
so that’s how you overcome a lack of campaign cash.
