Change We Can Believe In (Oliver North on Obama)
Fox News ^ | July 31, 2008 | Col. Oliver North

Posted on 07/31/2008 2:11:12 PM PDT by jazusamo

Kabul, Afghanistan — This place should have had real appeal to Senator Barack Obama. The poverty of the Afghan people is evident everywhere. Wracked by decades of Soviet occupation, civil war and an oppressive Taliban theocracy, the country is a veritable centerpiece for one of Mr. Obama’s legislative objectives: a frontal assault on global poverty.

Regrettably, when Senator Obama was here last week to play basketball for the cameras, neither he —nor any of the media sycophants traveling with him— mentioned the Global Poverty Act of 2007 (S.2433), legislation that he introduced on January 7, 2007. The bill – which now has 29 co-sponsors – requires the President and his administration to "develop and implement a comprehensive strategy" to achieve "the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide…who live on less than $1 per day."

Failing to mention this noble-sounding legislation during his well-staged visit to this impoverished, violence-plagued nation was a missed opportunity for the Senator. And, even though he declared himself to be a "citizen of the world" during a triumphal visit to Berlin, he again botched the chance to showcase his warm and fuzzy commitment to "promoting the reduction of global poverty, [and] the elimination of extreme global poverty."

Now, this is an idea that pretty much everybody can embrace. It’s the kind of utopian ideal that might inspire one to build a camp fire on the Senate floor while the Sergeant-at-Arms searches the library for a "Peter, Paul and Mary" album. The mere mention of the bill that bears his name – and which passed the Senate Foreign Relations committee on April 24, 2008 – would undoubtedly have brought cheers from the throngs of Senator Obama’s adoring Euro-admirers. He didn’t breathe a word of it, however. Why?

How many on this thread remember the Ugly American? It was a novel whose author's name escapes me right now but it pointed out the way things should be done. Send people in with expertise in certain fields that can help the Afghans and others help themselves, without the massive amounts of "wealth distribution" that only makes them dependent on other countries to keep them solvent. They all need to learn how to help themselves. Liberals can't understand, or don't want to, self sufficiency, it is one of their biggest blind spots. They think if the government can't do it then it can't be done!

Anyone with an IQ over 10 knows that free enterprise system is far better than government. Give the Afghans freedom, give them knowledge and we will never have to spend a dime on them again, they will do it themselves. Too bad Americans have forgotten that simple solution to our own problems.

I wonder what Col. North thought, when he saw the staged PR shots of Obama playing basketball while wearing a USMC shirt.

I know it made my teeth hurt....

That worthless sonuvabitch Barack Hussein Obama wouldn’t amount to a blackhead on a Marine’s ass.

He sure seems to like using unearned props to flesh out his empty sock puppet carcass.

Perhaps Barack Hussein Obama thought USMC stood for Unworthy Stealth Muslim Candidate.

Is the skuttlebutt true that it took 8 tries for Obama to sink the one that became the shot seen round the world?

The reason BO did not mention his plans there is like most liberal plans for wealth redistribution all the real focus is on getting the wealth from the working class stiffs, not giving it away.

Besides, anyone who can blow a half of a Billion dollars on a vacation is not really interested in the needs of the poor, unless of course it can serve him in his need to support his excessive life style.

“That worthless sonuvabitch Barack Hussein Obama wouldn’t amount to a blackhead on a Marine’s ass.”

Man you got that right...I don’t know how Olie could hold his tounge...

Hussein is pissing me off.

I’m getting pretty tired of his liberal BS.

Why did John McCain compare him to paris and brittney, because he acts/sounds just like a couple of spoiled over privileged little girls...with more money than sense, that believes everyone cares what falls out of their retarded little heads...

Could you possibly imagine this F’n guy as the CIC...I mean seriously.

This guy, the CIC.

He couldn’t find his own ass with both hands and flash light, let alone be the leader of the most exquisite all volunteer military in history of the world.

I tried and still no go from here. I lowered my security settings on my browser still no go.

I am on dial up. maybe the speed is not fast enough here to get the fox news server to respond?

Strange though, I get other news services easily.

And, even though he declared himself to be a "citizen of the world" during a triumphal visit to Berlin, he again botched the chance to showcase his warm and fuzzy commitment to "promoting the reduction of global poverty, [and] the elimination of extreme global poverty."
But that's not true. Obama did mention it, even making it central to his Berlin speech. He was just vague about the substance of it, as usual.

Just what does Col. North believe Obama meant when he told the "people of the world" that "the walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand"? He told them that this was their moment, this was their time to loot America's wealth.
