Research shows conservatives are nicer

Don't listen to the liberals - Right-wingers really are nicer people, latest research shows

George Orwell once wrote that politics was closely related to social identity. 'One sometimes gets the impression,' he wrote in The Road To Wigan Pier, 'that the mere words socialism and communism draw towards them with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, nature-cure quack, pacifist and feminist in England'.

Orwell was making an observation. But today a whole body of academic research shows he was correct: your politics influence the manner in which you live your life. And the news is not so good for those on the political Left.

Is it that the politics influence the life or the life influences the politics? I believe there is correlation, but I think the causation is from life to politics.

I’m a right wing fruit-juice drinker, sandal-wearer and sex-maniac.

Where did I go wrong?

Anyway, it’s not the fruit-juice drinkers who are weirdos, it the vegetable juice drinkers.

your politics influence the manner in which you live your life.

I would reverse this. First come your wants in how you want to live your life, then you go find a political philosophy that will justify and nurture it.

George Orwell was always prescient. I have a happy outlook on life and I don't have much to complain about. If it was up to me, I'd always leave things the way they were - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's my philosophy of life.

You don't need to explain that to Doug Urbanski, the former business manager for Left-wing firebrand and documentary-maker Michael Moore. 'He [Moore] is more money-obsessed than anyone I have known - and that's saying a lot,' claims Urbanski.

No, really. The left always wants money for themselves, but want to deny it to you. Just like with other things. For instance, they want to live, but want you to kill yourself for the earth.

Many on the Left apparently believe that espousing liberal ideals is a 'get out of jail free' card that inoculates them from the evils of the money culture.

Look at Obama's tax returns.

Do as I say, not as I do.

For someone who is "supposed" to be so much for the poor, his tax returns don't show much charitable giving.

Another Orwellian thought: “Some are more equal than others”. (I'm not sure that's exact, but the sentiment is correct.) Monied leftists see themselves as the elite, the pigs if you will, in their anticipated socialist society.

The notion of leftists outsourcing their obligations appears yet again.
The full-scale embrace of the importance of self-awareness, self-discovery and being 'true' to oneself, along with the idea that the State should care for the less fortunate, has created a swathe of Left-wing people who want to outsource their obligations to others.

When I was in high-school we had to read and discuss both "1984" and "Animal Farm". A year or two back I asked some teenage kids of a friend how liked those books and they had no idea about what I was talking about.

Thank you for this post- memories, memories and more memories.

That photograph of Winston Churchill is one that I have never seen before. Yes, I was part of that election. I believe that at 18 years of age, I still did not have the vote. I perused the quote from George Orwell and thought surely it had been doctored. I am indebted to Wikipedia. The quote was accurate. Yes, indeed the insight and honesty of Orwell was to flay the doctrinaire socialists. He detested them.

I see myself at the political meetings. Ruislip-Northwood division. A blue pin- stripe ill fitting suit and horn rimmed glasses, replete with red tie. A rabid socialist.Ah well, every young man has a right to be a damn fool socialist. (laughs).

If only those who follow a dream based on something for all and costing nothing, or whatever, could see. This in the coming US election.

Enough said.

I had proof of this yesterday. I was in an office to sign some paperwork, and the manager who was there to look things over noted my key fob from a conservative talk radio station. He asked if I was a conservative, and I told him “Yes”. He said “I could tell...you’re actually nice.”

He told me that those who weren’t conservative...well, weren’t very nice.

All the research I need is to read Democratic Underground. There's some virulent meanies there and it goes far beyond the mere holding of strong political views. The other striking characteristic over there is the complete inability of some to express themselves without resort to a certain foul four letter word and its participle.

Jason Lewis of KTLK (Minneapolis, and yes we do have conservatives here in Moonbatapolis) has been pointing out the difference between the liberal North and conservative South. To the point where the so called progressive, enlightened northerners are much more racist than people in the south, in spite of the stereotypes the media continues to propagate. I lived in New Jersey for the first 33 years of my life, then lived in Houston for 12 years. In spite of the influx of liberals into Houston, I still found the real Houstonians, and Texans, to be nicer, more civil, and more honest. Liberals on the other hand, just plain nasty! Many of the callers on Jason’s show this week confirm the claims this article makes about liberals.

When I started listening to Rush Limbaugh, there was one caller, a black man from Oakland CA. He said as a liberal he was always angry, blaming somebody else, and going nowhere. He tried the conservative point of view, and found himself happier, and taking the initiative to improve his lot instead of griping. Liberals want us all to be miserable and unhappy. Let’s not live down to their expectations!

This makes sense since the Dems are constantly telling their followers that they are victims of the evil conservatives. The Dems promote envy, resentment, and other attitudes that are the opposite of Christian virtues. Conservatives teach about love of country (and that we should be thankful to be American citizens) and love of God. A thankful attitude goes a long way toward explaining these results.

I worked in Cook County with a bunch of truck drivers. The Democrats ( how they loved Al Gore! ) among them were always the ones with the foulest, most racist speech, "Jungle-B***y" this and "C**n" that, over and over again. They'd roll their eyes behind the backs of the blacks. They were very cynical types, figuring the Dems would "stick up" for them and that George Bush was an evil man who went to war for oil. The sad thing was, most of them were veterans, but their kids weren't. Their kids were lazy union losers, moaning and groaning through their work day.

George Orwell was always prescient.

Actually, it was not prescience, but hard, cold experience. It is my understanding that Orwell was a communist when he was young, and fully supported the Soviet Union at first. His transformation to anti-communist began when the Soviets started mass-murdering their people. What really horrified Orwell was how the fellow travelers in the UK and the rest of the West refused to condemn or even acknowledge the horrors that were occurring in the USSR. A lot of the ideas that were included in Animal Farm and 1984 were based on observations about how communists actually behaved, such as "news" accounts of the events in the USSR that would paint everything as rosy as possible, or would spin the event to make it seem proper or even heroic when it was really plain evil. The idea of "groupthink" and other mind control were a direct result of these observations.

In other words, it is same ol' same ol' for the Left in the world. They have been using the Big Lie and trying to deny reality since the early 1900s, perhaps even before.

On that note, part of his experience was from fighting with the Republicans in Spain against the Nationalists. He was darn near purged by the Stalinist left, since he had fought with the Anarchists (both on the Republican side).

I highly recommend Homage to Catalonia for some insight into this period, and Orwell “getting mugged” by the Stalinist Left. It’s a fairly short, quick read.

A former liberal acquaintance who was always fussing about the wealthy getting tax breaks once described for me how she and her husband cheated on their taxes. BTW, her hobby seemed to be trying to get free meals from restaurants by complaining about the food. She always sent it back to the cook for one reason or the other.

Its the governments business to know how much you give.
And its the governments business to make you give.

He's the one running for office, on the grounds that rich people, like him, should be giving more.

Liberals are always screeching about the under-privileged and the poor. The fact is the total wealth of libs in America is in the trillions. It should be a simple matter, and add something to their already incredible opinion of themselves, for all the lib millionaires and billionaires to subsidize all the unfortunates who they say have no hope. Come on libs, you stingy b———s, open your wallets, and add to your self-esteem.

I entered their contest, “...why Left-wingers are really more lovable.”

1. Left-wingers obviously love themselves more.
2. Left-wingers have so much love for themselves and government, they don’t need God.
3. Left-wingers understand that the whole country should love them enough to care for their every need.
4. Left-wingers love babies too much to bring them into the world.
5. Left-wingers love children so much that they believe only government is qualified to raise them.
6. Left-wingers love their parents too much to submit them to their personal care.
7. Left-wingers love old and crippled people too much to encourage them to live.
8. Left-wingers love criminals too much punish or obstruct them from engaging in their life-long professions.
9. Left-wingers equate love with more things: sex, money, gift-cards, abortions, etc.
10. Left-wingers promote more opportunities to love: multiple partners, same sex, magazines, videos, inanimate objects, animals, small-children, etc.

What’s not to love?

Those surveyed were asked: 'Is it your obligation to care for a seriously injured/ill spouse or parent, or should you give care only if you really want to?' Of those describing themselves as 'conservative', 71 per cent said it was. Only 46 per cent of those on the Left agreed.

Just wow.
