BIG Earthquake in Japan Just Now! Predicted in Advance by Two Minutes (Live)
Japanese news; direct experience ^ | 14 June 2008 | AmericanInTokyo

Posted on 06/13/2008 4:58:12 PM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

We just had a very strong earthquake which fiercely rocked and rolled the main Island of Honshu in Japan.

TV broke with news on all channels IN ADVANCE OF EARTHQUAKE, warning people to "get ready". 8:43 a.m. local time Saturday (just about 10 minutes ago). 7:43 p.m. Friday Eastern Time.

Then, sure enough, the long, rolling shaking began, and increased in intensity. I estimate the shaking to have gone on for at least 45 seconds. It hit here at 8:45 a.m. It literally gave us 2 minutes to prepare. I have never experienced an advance earthquake warning.

The epicenter is considerably far from Tokyo, way up in northwest Japan. So I am sure there is little or no damage in Tokyo, but I can imagine damage and/or loss of life near the epicenter. It may well have been a 7.5. We will see.

The Japanese People are a people who generally learn lessons. The whole kaizen mentality, down to a ridiculously anal retentive level at times.

When the last person leaves a room, does he still turn off every electrical breaker, then every breaker feeding that breaker, just in case of an earthquake while nobody's around?

Wow.

Impressive.

What do they do if there’s no exit nearby—go to the nearest one or pull over to the side and wait for an all clear—hopefully not near a high embankment or sheer cliff!

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!

A BELOVED FREEPER for sure . . . and in a most interesting region of the world.

BTW, AIT,

What does the average Japanese incountry do with the American birds of rare plumage?

Enjoy them as they are or try hard and relentlessly to get them to shape up and conform like folks are supposed to in a collectivist relational culture?

I’m not sure what you’re referring to in terms of Kaoshiung?

There were many . . . interesting times in that city . . . right after WWII and since.

However, I am most thankful . . . about 30% of the folks in Kaoshiung know how to play the half game of Chinese chess according to the Pung Hu rules from an island just off the coast there.

There are lots of different sets of rules for the half game but I like the Pung Hu rules the most. Very interesting but not near as much dreary work as the full game.

I was in California for one, and like you, was in bed.

Got out of bed to run to under bedroom door frame.

Bed beat me to door!

Hey dere, I went through the Tottori 7.0 (2000) and my wife ‘woke up and then went back to sleep’ through the Kobe quake (1995), so we know what a freak-out it can be. Luckly it was quite a ways away from Tokyo.

We had a 3.0 in North Mississippi a while ago and people were scared shirtless. It made me laugh after all the times I awoke to morning 3.0’s that I confused with bad hangovers.

That is Awesome, simply amazing, 2 full minutes. I can’t get that out of my mind, living my whole life here in L.A.,
that would be nice to have even 60 seconds.

Let me tell you, I/we consciensiously used at least 80% of that two minutes to our advantage, after initially overcoming the shock of the news bulletin on TV. As it turned out, nothing really came loose or fell, but if it were even a little stronger or longer in duration, I am sure we could have incurred a little damage earlier today. Thanks.

If you’d be willing to answer the question in post 147, I’d be very grateful.

In CA it will probably never work, due to different entities involved.

True...unless done by the private sector. What will reactions be when "Accu-Quake" notifies its subscribers, but not others?
