Most people think English isn’t phonetic because they have never been taught the full code

Now that is an interesting statement. I'll have to check out Spalding's book.

EXACTLY!!! Those who are taught Phonics do a much better job with reading and writing than those taught to “sight read” and other such teaching “methods”.

And, people wonder why so many children graduate illiterate?

And they cite Mark Twain as a REFORMER? Sounds like he was making fun of their foolish notion.

As, indeed, he was. Mr. Clemens was, first, and foremost, a writer, and one of a rather satirical bent, at that...

National spelling bee top prize: $30,000

Siemens Westinghouse Math/Sci/Tech top prize:
$100,000 individual + $100,000 team

GE/Science young life science top prize:
$25,000

The viewing appeal of the spelling bee over a science fair is that the winner is objectively the best competitor rather than subjectively as in a judged event, and that the event is accessible for a broader (non-technical) audience.

I’m not sure why academic decathlon isn’t more popular. I find it a lot more interesting than the spelling bee.
