Members of Washington's military and defense establishment are expressing trepidation about Sen. Barack Obama, as the Illinois senator comes closer to winning the Democratic presidential nomination and leads in national polls to become commander in chief.

We're very concerned about his apparent lack of understanding on the threat of radical Islam to the United States," said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, who is pro-Iraq war and a Fox News analyst. "A lot of retired senior officers feel the same way."

"His views are all over the map depending on whether its nuclear proliferation, energy independence or the global war on terror," he said. "How many liberals say they are going to bomb al Qaeda in Pakistan no matter whether the Pakistanis like it or not? He's much harder to pin down."

“A lot of retired senior officers feel the same way.”
They need to stand up and be counted in a serious way, if Obama gets the Dem nomination.
“This is President Obama, all Aircraft Carriers and Ballistic Missile Submarines return to base for decommissioning.”
And is not Clinton an “unknown quantity” as well.....
Obama as CIC is THE reason I’m leaning toward a vote for McCain in November.
A campaign ad of distinguished retired military leaders giving testimonials against Obama would be very effective.
Yes, it would.
I wish they would do a poll because the young military personnel don’t fear Obama at all. In fact, they love him. UGH!!! I am fighting a losing battle here. I am trying to convince them to vote McCain, but since I am luke warm it is difficult and they can probably see right throgh me. lol. Global Warming is McCain’s downfall for me...
SERIOUSLY?? Young MILITARY like Obama? OMG- it’s worse than I thought..
I think you will see a lot of retired military officers lining up behind Mc Cain. We understand that National Security has to be the number one priority over everything else. That’s Mc Cain’s strength and where Obama fails miserably.
bump!
SERIOUSLY?? Young MILITARY like Obama? OMG- its worse than I thought..
It is but remember the young are very much into quick statements and have short attention spans. They are no different than the kids in college who are drinking this junk up.
Ping to # 8
What are your observations from where you are?
They should start the day AFTER he wins the nomination.
Guess they won’t be counting the military vote AGAIN.
A campaign ad with Obama's own words even more effective Obama's Military
No Clinton is NOT an unknown. We know very well how badly she HATES the military.
There are a lot of horror stories from military personnel who worked at the White House back when she was “merely First Lady”. She treated people in uniform like $h!+ — and I predict were she to be President (which I don’t believe will happen) she wouldn’t change ONE BIT.
Obama by default of his Liberal views probably hates the military as well, however will at least be somewhat more pleasant to those around him than she was.
On the other hand... he will pull back a lot of our forces and breed further contempt for our military with his Liberal attitudes.
Neither are complete unknown quantities.
(This is from a retired military man)
Wake up America!
This election is about our national security. Everything else isn’t even a close second..
Looks likethe Gen. McPeak who says he is not a product of the 60’s will not go crazy. McPeak campaigned for Dean and then Kerry. Why some old guys get soft is beyond me.

Give this video (that Neverforget 01 just posted)- to your young military friends...for starters.
At this point, it's far more important who we elect to Congress. Besides, if you and your state have already voted in the presidential primary, your job is done in that regard. Your vote for POTUS in the general election is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.....but the politico's and the laimstream media sure go out of their way to keep up the charade, don't they?
I have an idea, lets put Obaaaama on the ground in Iraq as a test. Let the community organizer "organize" the factions currently in Iraq....
My point, exactly. However, she has no relevant experience to be Commander in Chief ( just as Obama).
Why would you want to take a chance with Obama as CIC? Are you suggesting Bush didn’t have a huge influence on war decisions these past 7 years?
Then they need to get on the stick - get their absentee ballot requests filled out now!! Every unit has a Voting Assistance officer that has the forms and the info; even down range.
In every barrel of apples, you can find a few bad ones. The bad ones are opportunists who see something benefiting them with a political appointment or ambassador position.
Most people that take the office of President do not have relevant experience. Even John McCain, a war hero, prisoner of war... I’m not sure HE would have a LOT of relevant experience.
On the other hand, I’d chose him (were I going to vote for him) over her or Obama.
His approach to foreign policy is like having the vaults at all banks open and then inviting in the crooks thinking they will open accounts before withdrawing cash. This guy is a complete idiot....
Nothing to fear, once Lord Obama assumes the throne, the Four Horseman of the Apocapalypse will ride no more. War, Conquest, Pestilence and Death will be banished forever. There will be nothing to fear but Obama himself.
He was raised Muslem.
Of course he doesn’t “UNDERSTAND” the threat.
He is A PART OF THAT THREAT.
Funny, ain't it, how the Drive-Bys ignore that fact? I am old enough to remember Reagan, how the press attacked him with the idea that he was a fine speaker, but his ideas were ruinous.
The truth is, though, that B. Hussein Obama is the one who fits that description.
And I believe he steals many of his best lines: something else that will NEVER be spoken about by the MSM.
Obama and his socialism will turn me into an enthusiastic McCain voter, something that is akin to a complete turnaround....because I can't stand McCain.
Precisely why I find it amazing and amusing that she's been pushing her readiness as Commander in Chief. Has anyone listened to her since 1992?
Same here. I can't begin to imagine the dangers we will be facing with 4 or 8 years of either democrat. Scary stuff, indeed.
The military people I work with (and there are a lot of them) are all either solidly or at least lukewarm-ly for McCain. I only know one Obama supporter here and he's a civilian who has somewhat dysfunctional social skills. (OPD - Obnoxious Personality Disorder...LOL)
Well, that is if a ship is decommissioned in the usual way, mothballed for future use.
I bet a way could be found of taking a ship out of service that costs a lot less... but that isn't really the point, it's only speculation.
Obama isn't what he appears to be. What he is, we don't know yet, but we will find out.
If Obama does manages to get elected, he would be far worse than Carter. The military would be damaged for many decades, and many will quit, one hopes McCain puts an end to this nonsense.

I agree ...
I can’t count the number of times I have had to vote against someone rather than for someone. This is a time when I wont just vote against someone, I will do everything I can to ensure Obama’s defeat.
No, I don't want to see Osama/Obama as CIC. Likewise, I don't want to see McCain as CIC, either. Both "choices" turn my stomach. However, I have already voted in my state's primary. My guy didn't win, in fact, he dropped out prior to my state's primary. I no longer have a say in the matter. BTW, neither do you if your state has already held it's primary. It's up to the delegates of the Electoral College now. Comforting thought, huh?
They will call it Swift Boating.
I know....mulling my options, too.
That’s a relief:) ...but not surprising.
P.S. Best to Tom!
“I wish they would do a poll because the young military personnel dont fear Obama at all. In fact, they love him. UGH!!! I am fighting a losing battle here. I am trying to convince them to vote McCain, “
The term military is pretty vague, I know that many views found in the military vary depending on which piece of the military you are talking about.
What piece of the military is your group of associates?
I agree. I hope ALL conservatives and Republicans remember what Bill Clinton did to gut our military...we STILL haven’t recovered. And HE wasn’t a socialist...as is Obama.
There is no good option for the military this year. To use a war analogy. This election would be like World War II, if the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were the last two standing. No matter who wins, we lose.
Distinguished retired military leaders standing up to be counted as against Obama? Not likely. They made their rank by following orders and avoiding controversy. And retired, senior officers who stand up and speak out usually don’t sound any more in-touch or persuasive than Himmary Clinton. The all-Democrat press does its best to twist their words embarrass them and most senior military types would rather die than be humiliated.
