Just 18% of American voters believe that Iran has halted its nuclear weapons program. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 66% disagree and say Iran has not stopped its nuclear weapons program. Twenty-one percent (21%) of men believe Iran has stopped the weapons development along with 16% of women (see crosstabs).

"Among conservatives, just 8% believe Iran has stopped and 81% disagree."

Here's the danger and opportunity for the Bush Administration. They can continue to wander around in the fetal position in abject fear of the MSM or they can conduct a Flucht nach Vorn and attack.

This NIE scandal, this corruption by State Department bureaucrats must be opposed. This is an attempted high tech coup. The bureaucrats want to impose their policies on the elected government of this country. This is corruption of the highest order.

This is the opportunity that the Bush Administration has left on the floor for 7 years. For the sake of our national security and literally the lives of tens or hundreds of thousands of Americans, President Bush needs to clear the anti-American subversives out of State, Defense, CIA and the other intelligence agencies.

Bush's alternative is to see his political support collapse to close to zero. The only reason he has any supporters is to fight the war on terror. If he gives into the corrupt, subversive federal bureaucracy on such a vital issue, the nuking of America, Bush is toast. Heck, the GOP Congress could go along to impeach in the hope that Cheney hasn't gone soft in the brains.

It hasn’t stopped hack editorial cartoonists from lambasting Bush over this supposed halt to nuclear operations.

If anyone believes it they are naive.

Am I too cynical when I question the timing of the “outrage” about the CIA destroying the terrorist interrogation tapes. Seems to me that the Dems saw the numbers on the NIE and decided, time to attack the CIA, before the NIE coup collapses completely.

It’s reassuring to see that the people (including Dems here) are still holding to common sense when it has long left the CIA and the elite media.

Furthermore, why are we spending billions to know what is pretty obvious (except to the CIA) from Ahmadinejad’s behavior and speeches?

[Things are really bad when the dumbed down American public has more sense than the democrats in congress]

The truth indeed, but the politicians of the marxist persuasion are so arrogant they will pursue their deconstruction of our American freedoms using the useful educated idiots who believe the modern delusions and lies inherent to their evolutionary religious belief (forced down the throats of children in the public school system) that they are the children of monkeys and apes. That would be the 1/2 of Americans who still don’t realize that political correctness is communism on the move against the first and second amendments guaranteed to the citizens of America.

Why bomb them, when you can defeat them politically, if you ONLY JUST take up the battle? My goal is to restore the Constitution, not destroy it. That is what these NIE bureaucrats are trying to do, destroy the Constitution. They are attempting to force their policies down the throats of the American People. Who elected them? No one. These NIE bureaucrats are tax-funded subversives inside OUR government. Bush needs to attack to defend the Constitution. He defends himself, his Administration and the institution of the Presidency by attacking.

Unfortunately knowing Bush, he'll side with his enemies and screw his supporters. Somehow, this wimpiness is in the Bush bloodline. Bush will side with the 12% who believe the Iranians/NIE and screw the 81%, who don't believe that nonsense. Bush usually chooses the worst political position.

The worst of it is the complete collapse in confidence that the American public has for any US intelligence agencies.

We no longer believe our own agencies. They have become a joke.

That is serious. And no joke.

AJ Strata at The Strata-Sphere comments on the NIE too:

No One Is Buying The-Staged-For-Media NIE, Restructure Our Intelligence Community
Posted by AJStrata on December 8th, 2007

Most people are now well aware of the games the left is playing to stage media events like the NIE on Iran’s nuclear threat. The news is all about the first sentence (they stopped their weapons design program in 2003) as if Americans don’t go on to read the rest of it (they had a weapons program, they continue to process uranium, they may have started the weapons design up again - no one knows). But most of us are much smarter than the news media and the arrogant bureaucrats could even imagine. And it doesn’t take much extra reporting on all the facts surrounding this matter to figure out Iran is still an evolving nuclear threat.

You are correct. This CIA tape destruction 'scandal' is also proof that the CIA has become a joke, a dangerous joke to the operators within the CIA. The decided at least 2 years ago, that the CIA HQ and the Congress could NOT be relied on to protect them. That in the CIA operators judgment, the CIA HQ and the Congress would sell them out, put them at risk, put the country at risk for their own political benefit.

I don't know of a time, since the Civil War, when forces within the government were so willing to stab the country in the back. Perhaps, the commie infiltration during the late 40's comes close. The commies did have the nuke spy ring during the WWII.

Just means that the media will try harder to undermine our War on Terror until a majority of America agrees with their appeasement philosophy.

Are the men more stupid than the women, or what ? Maybe we should deny voting privileges to men.

I think stories like this and the one about the CIA tapes work well for President Bush. The public wants the government to keep them safe - that is why they wanted a prescription drug plan, they don’t mind the silly stuff at airports, they don’t mind red light cameras - the mantra is PROTECT ME!! Thus, the media and the RATS in congress have the message wrong and they will always lose votes when the topic of security comes up. Who believes that liberal judges are Democrats?

I posted a link to AJ Strata's The Strata-Sphere above, but he has much more on the NIE, including possible links between Valerie Plame and the 3 NIE authors and the confirmed fact that this NIE is NOT the consensus of the 16 intelligence agencies that Alan Colmes rants about.

Check out these headlines:

America Not Buying NIE

Israel Takes On NIE

Plame Dives Into NIE Debate - Notes Fitzgerald Aiding Waxman Witch Hunt - Coincidence?

Even Experts On Left Disagree With NIE And Fear Its Repercussions

I believe this NIE deal is a huge, huge scandal. If Bush doesn't take up the battle, a GOP Presidential candidate certainly should. Imagine Romney coming out with both barrels blazing and promising to clean out the intelligence agencies. He'd pass Guiliani in strength in the War on Terror. It's huge and it'll have political consequences for Bush, for the Dhimmicrats and for the Presidential race.

I have always thought that President Bush had a plan to neutralize the rogue elements in the CIA by transferring missions to the DIA and other intel agencies which would eventually cause the CIA to dry up and wither on the vine.
It appears the CIA is willing to risk destruction of the country to prevent this from happening.
