Not arguing the merits or otherwise of a flat sales tax, just saying that it will be almost impossible to sell (especially when proponents are calling it a 23% sales tax, which is a deception).

I go to a church that is very divided politically, there are members that are hard core conservative, and hard core liberal. However when we worship we worship together. I would not want to hear the ministers at my church up preaching what they believe politically, to me it doesn’t matter. But if I want to hear someone talk politics I will listen to Talk Radio or go to FreeRepublic. I don’t want to go to church to hear about political issues.

Thats just my opinion though.

"I don’t think preachers should preach politics from the pulpit."

I'm from Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Do a quick google search on General Peter Muhlenberg and then talk to me about preaching politics from the pulpit.

Gen. Peter Muhlenberg

“Probably because they almost changed their minds and showed up..”

I doubt if they almost changed their minds. The liberal Republicans, and the liberal Democrats, never gave it a thought.

It is up tp Congress to determine the manner in which it declares war.

Congress cannot cede the powers granted it to declare war to the executive branch any more than they can cede it to the judicial branch or your next-door-neighbor. That is what Congress did when they authorized the President to go to war at his and only his discretion. It stopped short of a formal declaration. That is also, by the way, why the Dimocrats have this "exit strategy" that allows them a pretext to deny responsibility for their vote. I said it when it was happening, and I hate to be proved right.

Secondly, our priorities should be with our allies, not with avoiding war.

Our priorities are our people, first and foremost. Sometimes that requires going to war, sometimes it doesn't.

Seems kind of a flimsy reason, if you agree, politically with him.

The problem is the fact that we have to wait for him to see what the reaction is before he decides what his position will be.

Well, this isn’t your typical MSM debate— first off this was the first debate Thompson was eligible to attend, and considering his late entry into the race, he does have some ground that he has to regain. He could have brought this debate, right now the only one presented by conservatives for conservatives, greater credibility through his presence. He could have shared his federalist values and quite frankly he has quite a bit to gain by showing up. Unfortunately, he didn’t, and it’s a shame.

Now onto closing statements.

I’m a member of the “club for growth”, I’m committed to your values... nominate an “anti-Hillary”, not a politician.

I’m afraid that Fred had a chance to show he was better than Rudy McRomney, and he chose to join them and the Dems.

Fred Thompson supports amnesty for illegal aliens...there was no chance he'd show up at a debate for conservatives.

Tancredo gets two minutes (he apparently used up two “free” wildcard minutes during the debate)

Compliments the men on the stage. Culture under attack. The President can lead us in a rhetorical sense. It is our country... take it back.

John Cox with two minutes of closing statement. He’s been talking to real people. Not so much the media... they don’t want to talk to him... he’s not a celebrity. Original member of the Club for Growth. Long-time pro-life activist. Committed to your values. We don’t need another career politician to run against Hillary.

I don’t think so.

In principle this was a good idea. Execution could have used some improvement. Still I think we got some good answers (not so much in the yes/no round).

All those questions you are ridiculing came from very respected social conservative leaders. Feel free to ridicule us at your own peril - if the social conservatives leave any Republican Candidate will lose.

Killing an unhealthy baby is murder, too. God does not make mistakes.

And the government’s DUTY is to protects it’s people.

Hitler killed disabled people, too. I hope NOBODY wants a society like that.

‘Values voter’ is an oxymoron.

It should go without saying that ‘values’ should be built in to every voter’s paradigm. ‘Values voters’ should be the average voter, rather than a special interest minority group.

It’s a sad critique on our culture and voters.

That is the problem with Senators running for Prez, they tend to micromanage as Rush said constantly in 2004.
