Research explores sun's climate role (G.W. debunked again)
Waterbury Republican-American ^ | August 19, 2007 | Editorial

Posted on 08/20/2007 9:38:29 AM PDT by Graybeard58

A recent Google search of news stories about "global warming" produced 27,344 hits. The reporting mostly supported the warmists' view that mankind is causing the planet to boil. Among the few exceptions:

United Press International's Aug. 2 report on peer-reviewed research published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. Blandly headlined "Math used in new climate change assessment," the article masked the importance of the results with jargon and euphemisms.

Two University of Washington professors used mathematics for the first time to quantify the relationship between climate change and variations in solar radiation, which follow 11-year cycles. They determined what many people have long suspected: The earth's temperature rises and falls with the sun's output, with the earth warming an average of 0.2 C during times of high solar activity and the polar regions warming even more. Their work blows away the global-warming "consensus," yet only UPI among the world's many thousand media outlets deemed it worth reporting. But even UPI ignored ...

ScienceDaily.com's Aug. 2 report on a peer-reviewed study in the American Geophysical Union's journal. University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee scientists found "synchronized chaos" in 20th-century climate, with fatal consequences for the global-warming applesauce.

The Atmospheric Sciences Group at Wisconsin-Milwaukee collated the effects of 100 years of known natural climate cycles: the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, the North Atlantic Oscillation, the North Pacific Oscillation, etc. They found the cycles synchronized several times for extended periods and went out of whack only during periods of increased El Niño activity in the Pacific. From this they were able to demonstrate that all global temperature changes in the 20th century resulted from natural forces, which themselves are subject to variations in solar output.

As conclusive and definitive as these studies are, the warmists and their media lackeys ignored them because they unilaterally foreclosed further debate some time ago. They say science is on their side yet they forsake the scientific method, which demands rigorous observation and experimentation, impartial analysis, thoughtful reasoning and principled debate. Warmists won't stand for any of that because it would lead to the end of their cottage industry and their phony-baloney jobs.

How did we ever get from the ice age to where we are now without the automobile?

It’s nice to hear a conservative view from a newspaper.

While agree that human causation does not properly explain of all of global warming, this is a seriously deficient article almost to the point of being simply propaganda.

I agree, I am so sick of those in denial of human activity causing climate change. It makes me want to go back to those days when life wasn’t so complex...when single-celled microrganisms thrived in the comfortably warm Hadean Eon, concept-free of capitalism and truly free of industrial progress. Sigh.

Those of us who know something about religion can recognize a religion when we see it.

Anthropogenic Global WarmingTM is a religion.

That was no article. It was an editorial designed to persuade and influence opinion. The difference is that the former does the same thing while masquerading as being objective, balanced, and just stating fact while the later has no such pretenses. I'm of the opinion that everything can be categorized as propaganda unless it has t-scores and a hypothesis...and even then there are no guarantees.

But even as an editorial its not very honest.

Anthropogenic Global WarmingTM is a religion.

Yep! And instead of a traditional building with a steeple, pews, and collection plates they have fancy computers, measuring devices, and email correspondence with lobbyists whose job it is to secure more research grants from representatives whom can raid the Treasury.

What, the editorial itself? Or the article that it references?

Well, gondramB, make your point instead of dismissively calling it propaganda.

You do have a point, don’t you?

...The earth's temperature rises and falls with the sun's output...

Who would have thought??? and for all this time we were blaming this on human presence on the planet.
