Did President Bush pull a classic Machiavellian move to outmaneuver Team Clinton over last week's Fourth of July holiday? In my opinion, the timing of President Bush’s commutation of Scooter Libby’s prison term was no accident.
The President was well aware that former President Clinton would be joining his wife on the fourth for her visit to Iowa in an attempt to raise her sagging poll numbers there. The President is also very aware of the former President’s own record on pardons. President Bush also correctly judged that Team Clinton would resort to defending their own pardon record as soon as the announcement of Libby’s commutation was made. Bill Clinton’s ego could not sit idly by while attacks on his pardon record were made. The Clintons fell right into this trap set by President Bush. The issue of Presidential pardons cannot help Madame Hillary’s White House ambitions.

This is a facinating theory, though one we will never know for certain.
Dubya is born in the sign Cancer, the same as the United States. This sign is known for a tenacious “home-mother-and-apple-pie” mentality, fierce protectiveness of the family and the young, a homebody nature, capable fund-raising, and shrewdness.

He is not running for office against them. I think he wants her to be the nominee.
But, IMHO, the fix is in for the Hildebeast. The Debates are to determine who will be her VP. As for winning in 2008, that is another story.
Bush is to Machiavelli as Dennis Miller is to Howard Cosell. He got lucky this time.
If all this were happening closer to the election, I might see it as a good PR move. So far away from the election, though, and the average voter is likely to not even know who Scooter Libby is, much less draw any conclusions about presidential candidates.
I’m skeptical. How many times have we heard this kind of thing and then have it come to naught?

Or it just could be the timing was based on the latest ruling, where Libby was headed to jail in potentially days.
