WHY HAMAS WON
New York Post ^ | June 19, 2007 | Ralph Peters

Posted on 06/19/2007 5:55:52 AM PDT by Edward Watson

HAMAS won its shut-out victory in Gaza with alarming ease. And the reason Hamas won is even more alarming: Fanaticism trumps numbers. You'll hear no end of explanations for the terrorist triumph: Hamas was backed by Iran; Gaza is Hamas' base of support; some Fatah units ran out of ammunition . . . All true. And all secondary factors. Fatah's security forces in Gaza outnumbered the Hamas gunmen.

Fanatics who are glad to die in battle will beat those who don’t, given an even playing field.

“Fanatics who are glad to die in battle will beat those who don’t, given an even playing field.”

Which is precisely why we need to ensure that there is never a level playing field. We need to continue to advance our technological advantage, relative to every one of our potential enemies, including China.

Fatah did not have the numbers; that was an illusion. A large portion of the Fatah security force was made up by the same fanatics. This was not fanatic vs. liberal, this was a fight between two groups of fanatics: kill Israel and the West now vs. kill them later.

Exactly. Military innovation and military preparedness are the only defences against this kind of fanatical aggression.

Hamas won for the simple fact , that when it came time to fight ruthlessly to fight a war ......they did it.

They don't care who likes them, right or wrong they had an objective and they obtained it without apology.

We had best learn the rules if we want to win this war.

We're fighting a military war, they are fighting a religous war. They have the better strategic hand.

re: We had best learn the rules if we want to win this war.

Isn’t it sad when a fact is so obvious that stating seems to be overkill?

In an disagreement, argument, fight or war the first party to use tactics that are understood and respected or feared the other party will win every time. Period.

Until we find the stomach to deal with these animals in the same way they deal with us, but to a greater extent, we will continue to fall behind.

The best you can hope for is that the extremist will eventually defeat himself.

Trickle down annihilation of extremist leaders works faster. Moderate extremists do not have a chance against extremely extreme extremists.

Seems more and more its a police action for us, now referred to as "nation building", instead of a military war.

They probably do have the better hand in that they can melt into the wood work.

Because of that it'll require a closed fist, to smash them. Truth be told all they understand is violence and until we respond with swift unchecked violence, destruction we wont win.

Unfortunately, there is another wrinkle to this ugly picture. The Palis have learned that Hamas, along with providing terror and fanaticism, also uses its considerable funding (from Iran) to provide charitable aid the Palis need. For example, when something needs to be fixed, (homes, roads repaired, widows taken care of, etc)Hamas has the funds to do it. The net effect is that this assistance clashes with any other assistance the Palis get because the money is given directly to the people, there is no middleman corruption, etc.

These are not good people, but they know how to endear themselves to the populace.

I have long thought that the half-trillion dollars we spend on a war effort might well be more effective if it was just given to the populace. Divy it up between public works projects and direct gifts to families with specific needs. I know that’s a very liberal approach, but if we aren’t going to fight a war to win it then we owe it to the troops and the families of the troops who would die in a half-hearted effort to spare them.

If there were a way to pin the failure of our plan directly on the MSM and the Lefties and make it stick for future generations I would say bring the troops home tomorrow and let the devil have Iraq and the whole area. Our brave troops don’t deserve to have to fight two or three wars at the same time. It’s bad enough having to face the insurgents and terrorists, but when the MSM and the Lefties start piling on it’s more than they deserve.

I will go to my grave with a great dislike of those who have made what should have been a walk in the park for the United States and its military power drag on for five years and cost more than 3,000 Americans their lives.

I don’t know if I had lost a son or daughter in that war if I could restrain myself from going to DC and extracting a pound of flesh from the likes of Kennedy, Reid, Pelosi, et al.

God forgive me for the hatred I feel in my heart for those who have tried so hard to destroy what America is.
