Moonbats seek to ban Blue Angels from San Fran
Hot Air ^ | May 7, 2007 | BRYAN

You’ll be shocked, shocked to find out who’s behind this: Veterans for Peace, Global Exchange and Code Pink. But don’t you dare question their patriotism. Questioning their sanity is fair game, though. Evidence of west coast anti-military crazy goes back a few years.

The annual aerial show by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels — a San Francisco tradition dating back to 1981 that pumps millions into the local economy — is running into opposition from three local peace advocacy groups that are calling for a permanent halt to the popular Fleet Week flyover.

CodePink, Global Exchange and Veterans for Peace, Chapter 69, are working with Supervisor Chris Daly on a Board of Supervisors resolution to address concerns over the Blue Angels.

Daly acknowledged he is considering a call to halt the flyovers because, he said, “they seem dangerous and unnecessary.” Daly said he plans on introducing the resolution as early as Tuesday, but is still drafting the language. A resolution is not legally binding, but states a board position.

The Code Pinkos don’t care about the economics, or the inspiration that kids might get from Fleet Week and the Blue Angels (well, they may care about the inspiration, but only to denounce it). They only care about themselves and their precious politics.

CodePink has launched an online petition, signed by more than 500 people to date, calling on leaders to end the flyovers for reasons of public safety, air pollution and fuel waste.

Cox said the resolution would establish that city leaders and the public are not in support of having the Blue Angels.

“We can then take the next steps we have to legally stop them,” he said.

Hm. San Fran has a population of about 751,682. Code Pink has 500 signatures on their online petition. They’re a national organization with connections to the Speaker herself–500 signatures is a pathetic result. But they think they represent the public of San Francisco. Given that city’s warped politics maybe they do, but they have a looong way to go to prove it.

"...annual strafing of the city," eh? These cretins want strafing, Spooky'll give'em strafing!

My dad's last tour of duty was at the Presidio, so I had the great good fortune of spending a few formative years off the leash in the City when it was still safe for unescorted kids (and livable for grownups -- like Sydney or Melbourne today, or so I'm told). Anyway, Dad and Mom retired to southern Marin, and for many years Fleet Week meant gathering on the deck with a tubful of cold ones, turning up the radio play-by-play, and watching the Angels do their thing: the High Show, conditions permitting, or the Low Show, which also sent the good shivers down one's spine, and all that poisonous toxic exhaust did odd things to the lachrymal glands.

Later on I lived in Alameda, while the NAS was still operational, and then in Sunnyvale. Late one afternoon I was heading up Central Expressway toward Mountain View, on that stretch that's about 20ft below ground level, when there was the most Godawful roar and a palpable shockwave. Looked up and it wasn't Armageddon or even the Big One -- just three of the Blues on final to Moffett, and I swear that in the time it took my heart to start again I could count every rivet on the dirty side.

Left the Bay Area for good in '99, no regrets. Went back briefly last year when my kid brother was killed by, surprise, an illegal driving drunk on 101. Story for another day. Nothing wrong with that part of the world a neutron bomb wouldn't fix.

Isn’t it interesting?
The Leftists, Perverts, Communists and the general run of assholes who loudly proclaim they are deserving of respect, inclusion and “special protection” — or the first bastards who then attempt to bend the rest of society to THEIR preferences and concept of “society”..

I’m plumb out of “compassion”, totally unPC and can hardly wait until the Pinko Pervert Marxist crowd goes “postal” and thereby making themselves public enemies with no “bag limit”...

“San Francisco is a beautiful old city.”

That whole area is beautiful. It is so sad that the filthy
perverts and pinkos have taken over.

My brothers moved there in the late 60s, one to practice medicine and one to teach. The teacher, now retired, is still in Pacifica.
When I last visited in 1999, there was an old military radar missile site, open to the public, just over the GG bridge. It was complete with the antenna turning, control bunkers, and displays of the missiles.
It was a fun visit. No doubt the commies have had it closed down by now.
A drive along the coast highway, north from SF, is a real treat. I would love living there if it were not for the perverts and commies.

I saw the Blue Angels at USAF Finningley airfield in Yorkshire before it closed and was impressed. I understand carrier based pilots have to be more skilled than Air Force ones because of the pitching and swaying of the vessel. Can any US Navy Freeper tell me if this is true ?

On the subject of these freaks, well, some of them are poofters, that explains it,they probably only have small todgers and no testosterone. The hole in the osone layer directly above SF Bay is most likely due to all the farts from the mung beans they live on. However, Freepers should refrain from condemning said farts as these are the first sensible things these people have said since 1969.

All military sites currently in CA should be moved inland.....if they are attacked, let them defend themselves!

I hope SF is the target for the next North Korean missile test.

Isn’t that the truth! I was at the gas station and they flew overhead. I felt like I had a front row seat! I had tears in my eyes, it was so beautiful (in a kick @$$ sorta way ;-).

My problem is with San Francisco and the Bay Area commies, not the rest of CA. Maybe you have a little problem with geography? Where do you suggest we base the U.S. Pacific Fleet, now HQ'd in San Diego...the Salton Sea?

That was hyperbole. I am cognizant that in raw numbers, more people voted for Bush in CA than in TX. But I am frustrated by the SanFran kooks.

What if the Blue Angels changed their name to the Pink Fairies for the day?

How long before they turn militant from all their frustration?

I've got November, 2008 in the betting pool, when we elect a Republican President, and a Republican Congress!

This event will take place. Too much money at stake to cancel the appearance.

I love the Blue Angel shows, even more so because every time a jet cuts through the sky over the city I just know it drives the anti-military radicals crazy!
