| WASHINGTON, May 8, 2007 FBI agents arrested five radical Islamists for allegedly plotting to kill as many U.S. soldiers as they could at the Armys Fort Dix, N.J., and a sixth defendant is charged with aiding and abetting members of the domestic terror group, authorities announced today.
The arrests occurred last night in Cherry Hill, N.J., as suspects tried to buy three AK47 assault rifles and four semi-automatic M-16s from a confidential government witness. These apprehensions culminate a 16-month FBI investigation into the groups alleged plot to kill soldiers with assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades, according to a complaint filed in the Camden, N.J. Federal court. |

FR WAR NEWS!
This kind of makes you wonder what we are missing!!!
Half of them were in the country illegally, and running business!
What a country!
Should be 60. At least.
Amnesty would have made turned these illegal aliens into US citizens
They were only fighting us over here so they won’t have to fight us over there
/sarcasm :)
The interesting thing is, some were roofers. I wonder how they got permits for the homes they worked on.
Arrrrg...
Probably given preferential treatment, and the permits were just waived.

Then, if that is true, what ‘officials’ did that?
Some of us would like to know ;)

I was being a little sarcastic, but who knows?
Would anyone really be surprised? I wouldn't. The questions here are endless. These were business owners, terrorist, in the country illegally. How they were provided business permits is just one of many questions.
Like why do they keep calling this "home grown" terrorist, and the next breath tell us half of them entered this country illegally.
My question is, how many more are here? Hundreds? Thousands?
They should be accorded the same right as the NAZI saboteurs that snuck ashore (in NJ of course) in WWII were. A fast military tribunal and the guests of honor at a Texas Necktie Party.
Opinion.
If they had international connections, that may show the officials that turned the other cheek for the permits as having interesting campaign donations.
Tidbit.
One of the businesses from that era and ties is still here.
Ironically, that business does home construction and developments.
::Wonder if that company was affiliated with the roofing business.::
Hang the American citizen for treason and send the rest to Guantanamo for their natural born lives.
Yep it was.
Then I would say, there were international ties.
I don’t follow that

CAMDEN, N.J. - Five radical Islamists - three of them brothers - have been arrested and charged with plotting to kill as many soldiers as possible in an armed assault at the Fort Dix Army base in New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie and Philadelphia FBI Special Agent in Charge J.P. Weis announced today. A sixth defendant is charged with aiding and abetting the illegal possession of firearms by three of the members of the group. The arrests occurred last night in Cherry Hill as two of the defendants were meeting a confidential government witness to purchase three AK-47 automatic machine guns and four semi-automatic M-16s to be used in an attack they had been planning from at least January 2006, according to criminal Complaints unsealed this morning.
Some members of the group allegedly conducted surveillance at Fort Dix and also at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey, Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and the U.S. Coast Guard in Philadelphia. The co-conspirators obtained a detailed map of Fort Dix, where they said they hoped to use assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades to kill as many soldiers as possible. They also did small-arms training at a shooting range in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania and distributed training videos amongst themselves that included depictions of American soldiers being killed and known foreign Islamic radicals urging jihad against the United States.
"The individuals arrested today present an alarming example of the need to maintain a vigilant stance towards those who would do us harm," said Julie Myers, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Assistant Secretary. "This case is an excellent example of how ICE immigration investigative authorities are making the country safer."
"The actions of these defendants posed a real threat to the safety and security of New Jersey citizens," Christie said. "We will remain steadfast in our focus on protecting New Jersey from the terrorist threat among us whether that threat is against everyday citizens or our men and women in uniform."
"This case underscores the need for continued vigilance against threats within our borders," said Kenneth L. Wainstein, Assistant Attorney General for National Security. "While these defendants are not charged with being members of an international terrorism organization, their involvement in weapons training, operational surveillance and discussions about killing American military personnel warranted a strong law enforcement response."
"I want to especially salute the unsung hero who took the initiative to report the video to local authorities," said Weis. "His or her actions are the embodiment of the cooperation we need from the public to keep this nation safe. We need to reach the point where everyone is willing to come forward and say to law enforcement, 'I have seen or heard something that you need to know.'"
The five defendants are each charged with conspiracy to murder members of the uniformed services, which carries a maximum statutory penalty of imprisonment for any term of years or for life. All six defendants were to appear this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joel Schneider in federal court in Camden, where the government would be seeking their detention without bail.
The investigation began on Jan. 31, 2006, after the FBI received a video recording showing the six individuals charged in the Complaint and four other men firing assault weapons in militia-like style at a Poconos shooting range. The recording depicted them calling for holy war (jihad) and shouting "God is great" in Arabic. The recording was recovered after one of the plotters took the videotape to a retail establishment seeking to have it converted into a DVD. According to the Complaint, the DVD was to be distributed and used as a training tool.
Alarmed by what they had seen on the videotape, store employees contacted the FBI. After the recording was turned over to the FBI, agents used a confidential witness (CW) to infiltrate the group. The CW convinced the plotters that he had the same jihadist goals and that he could get them weaponry needed to carry out the assault at Fort Dix.
Two of the defendants - Dritan Duka and Shain Duka - were arrested at a residence in Cherry Hill last night as they arrived to purchase the AK-47s and M-16s as previously arranged with the CW. (The weapons provided by the FBI for the controlled purchase were inoperable.) Eljvir Duka was arrested at Dritan Duka's residence; the other three at their respective residences. All of the arrests and court-authorized searches of the residences were conducted beginning about 9 p.m. last night. The defendants are as follows:
A criminal Complaint and this news release can be found at the U.S. Attorney's Office Public Affairs Office website: www.usdoj.gov/usao/nj/press/index.html (All the affidavits for each of the defendants are the same.) The CW, following his infiltration of the Duka Organization, recorded numerous conversations with the defendants, in which they discussed tactics, surveillance and plans for attacking U.S. military bases and killing soldiers, radical theology and hatred of America and support of jihad.
On Aug. 11, 2006, for example, Shnewer was recorded by the CW as Shnewer described his and the group's intentions in an attack at Ft. Dix: "My intent is to hit a heavy concentration of soldiers.... This is exactly what we are looking for. You hit four, five or six Humvees and light the whole place [up] and retreat completely without any losses."
Repeatedly, Shnewer was recorded saying that he knew what they were doing was illegal and that their activities had to be hidden. In one instance, Shnewer allegedly showed a DVD from his computer to the CW, telling the CW it had to be done in private because, "It's about something that can lead to prison." The DVD depicted various jihadist images while a narrator recruits the observer to the jihadist movement.
Shnewer at one point gave his laptop computer to the CW with the instruction that he look at certain video files, according to the Complaint. (The FBI copied the hard drive before it was returned to Shnewer.) Among them, according to the Complaint, was a file that appeared to depict the last will and testaments of two of the September 11 hijackers and another with images of Osama Bin Laden and other Islamic extremists calling the viewer to join the jihadist movement.
A criminal Complaint is merely an accusation. All of the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Christie credited the Special Agents of the FBI's Philadelphia Division and the FBI South Jersey Joint Terrorism Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge J.P. Weis, in Philadelphia, for investigation of the case.
Christie and Weis also thanked the South Jersey Joint Terrorism Task Force, Philadelphia office of the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Camden County Prosecutor's Office, NJ State Police, and the Delaware River Port Authority Police.
Additionally, Christie and Weis would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance and support in making the arrests: the Cherry Hill Police Department, Cherry Hill Fire Department, Camden County Sheriff's Department, Philadelphia Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Mt. Laurel Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

You can’t build a fence without getting a permit.

So, if they were roofers, they had to get permits for every job they did.

Serious Questions Raised About Terror Suspects (5/9/07)
PHILADELPHIA There are serious questions about the terror plot suspects. Did some of the men slip through the system? Were there clear signs government agencies should have taken note of?
Investigative Reporter Jim Osman reveals old laws could have been part of the problem. This is as much about illegal immigration as Homeland Security. Three of the suspects weren't here legally. They had driving privileges in New Jersey and 35 encounters with police before the authorities say the terror plot began.
So how was it possible that they went undetected?
Suspect Shain Duka had a real New Jersey driver's license despite being an illegal immigrant; he had an abysmal driving record. Duka was repeatedly stopped by police and had 19 suspensions of his license.
The N.J. DMV says Duka getting license could have happened under old rules. "New Jersey notoriously was one of the worst states not only when it came to customer service but security of its drivers licenses," Shawn Skeekey of the N.J. DMV said. In 2004, N.J. went to a program called 6 points, which requires stringent documentation before getting a license or permit. The state could not offer any specific reasoning about the Duka's.
Suspect Dritan Duka, also illegally in the country, obtained a driving permit. He was stopped by police 11 times between 1997 and 2006. The state of New Jersey indefinitely suspended his original permit when it found out his visa had expired. He kept encountering authorities on driving issues.
And Eljvir Duka, as well in the country illegally, had 24 suspensions of his driving permit and was tagged by the state as a persistent violator.
The N.J. DMV says the new requirements to show a litany of documentation would hopefully prevent people like the terror suspects to slip through the cracks again. "this collection of documents is probably the best means you can have to have someone prove that that's the person they claimed to be," Sheekey said.
Shain, Dritan and Eljvir Duka worked for a roofing company so driving was important to their livelihoods. They were stopped for moving violations in a whole host of places from Voorhees to Mount Laurel to Cherry Hill to Palmyra from the late 1990's until last year.

Trial Date Set For Six Accused of Fort Dix Plot
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — The six men accused of plotting to attack soldiers at Fort Dix all pleaded not guilty on Thursday as a federal judge promised to have the trial wrapped up by the end of the year.
“If the government is not able to prove this case, they should not be in jail. I want to get this resolved,” said U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler.
Kugler set a tentative trial date of Aug. 13, but said he hoped the trial could realistically begin by early October.
Assistant U.S. Attorney William Fitzpatrick said he thinks the trial will last about four weeks.
The trial will take months to prepare because jury selection for such a high-profile case could be difficult, and because the defense lawyers will need to review a mountain of evidence, including more than 1,000 audio-taped conversations, the judge said.
Government lawyers said they would start sharing CDs of the conversations with defense lawyers quickly.
Calling it “an unusual case,” Kugler said he would try to pave the way for a smooth trial by increasing security, allowing journalists to see evidence online as soon as it is introduced in court, and possibly blocking off streets around the federal courthouse in Camden.
Kugler also said he would work with other judges to get trials on the defense lawyers’ calendars, including a capital murder trial in Burlington County, rescheduled.
The men were arrested and charged last month with planning the attack. Authorities said they planned to use mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and guns in a raid on a New Jersey installation used mainly to train reservists. The assault never took place.
The suspects, one from Turkey, one from Jordan, and four of whom are ethnic Albanians from the former Yugoslavia, have been held without bail in a federal detention center since they were arrested May 7.
Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer, Serdar Tatar and the brothers Dritan, Eljvir and Shain Duka are charged in the indictment with conspiring to kill military personnel, which is punishable by life in prison.
Dritan and Shain Duka also are charged with possession of machine guns. And all three Duka brothers are charged with possession of weapons by illegal immigrants.
A sixth man, Agron Abdullahu, is charged with providing weapons to illegal immigrants, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. On Thursday, another federal judge rejected his appeal of an earlier decision that he should be detained as he awaits trial.
Investigators zeroed in on the men after an electronics store clerk told the FBI about footage of them firing assault weapons and screaming about jihad on a video they asked him to transfer to DVD.
The men allegedly practiced firing weapons in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania and made a deal, through a paid FBI informant, to buy fully automatic weapons.
Authorities said the six scouted out East Coast military installations to find one to attack, but settled on Fort Dix largely because Tatar knew his way around from delivering pizzas to the base for his father’s restaurant.
In the courtroom Thursday, the men waved and smiled at their relatives and the relatives gestured back. Ferik Duka, the father of three suspects, stage-whispered to each of his sons, “I love you.”
Kugler said that the next time the suspects or their relatives tried to communicate there, they would be barred from the courtroom.

Special Provisions Planned for Fort Dix Plot Trial
The trial of six men accused of plotting to kill soldiers on Fort Dix is likely to attract a throng of media and international interest.
U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler on Thursday said he expected the trial to begin in October in Camden and he laid out details to accommodate interested parties, many of them using technology in a way it’s rarely used in federal court.
Among the special arrangements Kugler said he was considering:
- Making everyone entering the courtroom, including lawyers and court staff, go through two security checkpoints.
- Closing streets around the courthouse for security reasons.
- Handing out daily passes for admission to the courtroom for the public and relatives of the suspects.
- Making streaming video of the trial available to personnel on Fort Dix.
- Setting up a special Web site with details of the case.
- Making evidence available online to reporters as soon as it’s introduced in court.
- Making real-time court-reporter transcripts of the trial available to the media for a fee.
- Forbidding public parking along some streets to make room for satellite media trucks to park.
- Working with other judges to reschedule trials on the defense lawyers’ calendars so the trial can happen quickly.

A federal judge today postponed the trial of five men accused of plotting to attack Fort Dix, but was reluctant to grant a defense request to delay the case until next spring.
"I'm still very confident that we will we get the trial done this year," said U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler, who scheduled a status conference for Sept 6.
The trial had been scheduled to start in October. Defense attorneys contend they need more the time to review the mountain of evidence, including 200 hours of conversations recorded by two FBI informants. Most of the conversations occur in Albanian and Arabic.
Kugler urged defense attorneys to hire an outside firm to help with the translations.
"Can't you farm some of it out? Get more people working on it. We're paying for it. I'll authorize it," Kugler said.
Prosecutors, meanwhile, have asked the judge to empanel an anonymous jury, citing concerns over the security of jurors. They will argue their case for the precaution next month.
