I hope Paul stays in as long as possible because much of his message is absolutely essential.

That said, I don’t think he has a chance.

There is probably nothing wrong with him. But paraphrasing then Gov Ronald Reagan; “I cannot do a damn for you if I don’t get elected!”

My dear little man, did you climb up on that high horse all by yourself? You be careful getting down. Hate to see you fall on your spurs. ;)

Lots of terrible questions, lots of refusals to answer questions (some good, some bad), lots of canned answers that sounded focus group generated.

Make no mistake - this debate was not politically neutral in setup. Many of the questions were posed to trap conservatives into embarrassing and/or politically damaging positions. The media is not our friend. With that...

Brownback and Mccain are 100% embarrassing. Cringe-inducing answers. They were way out of their league. Pathetic, I wanted to mute their answers. Get them both off the stage.

Gilmore, Huckabee, Tommy Thompson came across as ok (overall...). Giuliani...great demeanor, great personality for a president, but there isn't much good to say about his policy stances. I can't hate him, but I cannot support him either.

Ron Paul should STFU about the war, which he manages to tie into almost every answer. He came across as kookie, and it is a real shame. It drowns out all of his good ideas. He can't change the subject!!! I love the guy (no homo), but his amplification of this glaring weakness makes me almost ashamed to be associated in any way with him. Entirely disappointing.

Romney and Tancredo were both very strong. Romney is hard to read though, sorta like a slick, POSSIBLY insincere vibe. He may actually not be all that bad (if Fred Thompson doesn't enter the race, and Hunter doesn't gain traction).

Hunter stole the show, hitting almost every pitch out of the park (no strikes, that is for sure). America would be very well served to have this man as president. I think he would draw some Democrats and independents as well (those that recognize the economic damage wrought by the tax and regulatory systems on several employment sectors).

My ranking:
1. Hunter

2. Tancredo (tie)
2. Romney (tie)

4. Huckabee (tie)
4. Gilmore (tie)
4. Giuliani (tie)
4. Tommy Thompson (tie)

8. Paul (kooky)
9. MCcain (embarrassing)
10. Brownback (embarrassing)

Thank you. I thought it was McCain, and I knew Rudy would be. I was confused if it was McCain or one of the lesser known candidates.

I am convinced that Mitt is pro-life, regardless of what he may or may not have been years ago.

More importantly, I believe that he will speak strongly and convincingly on pro-life issues, AND that on every issue that matters as President, he will act the way a pro-lifer wants.

I trust him to do the right thing on pro-life issues.

“Hunter quoting RWR I believe.”

Or was it President Bush??

Anyway, I’m glad Hunter agrees that we need to “err” on the side of LIFE!

I understand. and I like that Fred has that honed as well.
Mitt strikes me as the right annswer at the right moment for the right crowd type.

He was great but I dont know the man yet

McCain came across programmed and Rooty came across uninspiring.

I thought the leftwing mayor would do much better. This was about as friendly a crowd as he could hope for, being liberal Arnie country.

Rudi fell flat. Given he generally uses the same kind of fast-paced talking himself just like Chrissy Matthews does, you'd think he would have done much better in this debate format.

“You and JRochelle are the only two people on a thread that is 2000 posts long who continually bag on Romney. You need to get over your obsession with the man, or people are going to start thinking you’re a Democrat trying to submarine the one Republican who can win in 2008.”

That b.s. about how he’s the ‘one Republican who can win’ is one more part of why Romney will never get my vote. If ‘he’ll win,’ is your first defense, obviously, that’s his strength. Not his political conservatism.

Yes, but if the record is a good one it doesn’t bother me so much that some of his rhetoric seems off. I guess is I was pro-abortion I wouldn’t like how Romney suggested he was on my side and then screwed me over as Governor.

The RR Library is about 15-20 mins from me. I would have liked to be there to watch it to see how they set it up. The PMSNBC set is right on the mezzanine from where I took a picture of my last from another country with AF-1 in the background who is becoming a US citizen.

Ron Paul should have been born in the late 19th century. McCain supports fed funds for embryonic stem cell research. Science has passed way beyond embryos for a while now.

Oh. They had to move the Marine One display and RR's entourage display somewhere to make room for that bunch who were invited there to watch. I want to find out how many satellite trucks were up there on top of that canyon.

My view is that those guys were gentlemen and had clarity and strength whoever you are with. There were few gray areas or touch-feely things about where they are standing.

He trotted out the same set of lies he’s told before concerning abortion tonight.

"It’s a shame you are so bigoted against well spoken, good looking people. Poor Mitt. I well understand the bigotry he’s had to endure. : ) "

What are you electing here? A liberal metrosexual from the Northeast?

Why would I be bigoted against a well spoken good looking guy? I am one!

I am glad that he (Fred Thompson) was not there. He should let these other candidates, particularly, McCain and Guiliani discredit themselves and then get in. In a few weeks both of these candidates will have been severely damaged and only Romney will remain. I think he can shine against any of these candidates but when only one major candidate remains he will walk away.

When Fred Thompson announces his candidacy, McCain and Giuliani will be eating his dust. ;)
