Cho's 'Religious Martyrdom Video'
NBC News ^ | Thursday, April 19, 2007 8:50 AM | by Richard Engel, Middle East bureau chief

Posted on 04/19/2007 6:38:49 AM PDT by meg88

The disturbing and cryptic video clips, photographs and manifesto the killer Cho Seung Hui sent to NBC News instantly reminded me of the taped testimonials suicide bombers leave behind to justify their crimes.

It looked so familiar -- an angry young man dressed in battle clothing preach a message full of hate in front of a drab background. I have seen many of these videos over the years in the Middle East.

The attackers always stress a desire to battle injustice and moral turpitude; they all believe they are avengers of the righteous. The videos are also replete with religious references.

Cho repeatedly mentions Christ, suffering and isolation. There appear to have also been references to the Koran.

On the package sent to NBC, Cho uses the name "A. Ishmael." He is also reported to have had the words "Ismail Ax" tattooed or written on one arm.

Ismail is the Koranic name of Abraham's first-born son. In one of the central stories of the Koran, God orders Abraham (called Ibrahim) to sacrifice Ismail as a test of faith, but then intervenes and replaces him with a sheep.

Internet speculation The Islamic Threat website said: Cho "knew exactly the significance of the name in Islam as far as blood sacrifices are concerned which leads me to think that there might have been Islamic motivation behind the madness he displayed."

The Arab New Service website said: "The Chicago Tribune reports that Virginia Tech University massacre perpetrator, Cho Seung-Hui, died with the words "Ismail Ax" in red ink on one of his arms.

Hmmm . . . Ismail -- the Arabic name for Ishmael -- considered the father of all Arabs and a very important figure in Islam. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, right?

I am currently reading The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America by David Horowitz.

These professors are all Anti-America, Anti-Capitalist, Communist and Marxist.

They justify & encourage militants and terrorist against perceived injustices.

They teach and preach class-envy.

They teach and preach institutional white-racism against all minorities.

So, I just wonder what this kid was being taught.

It wasn’t a “disturbing and cryptic” video. It was plain to see that he was a wimp, and knew that he couldn’t compete in life like everyone else around him.

I will try not to watch any more of his crap as it only serves to piss me off to no end.

I was very skeptical of any religious motivation, and even as you look at his mentions of Christ etc. in what he sent to NBC, they are very non-religous.

He speaks like a secular person simply using religion to illustrate his “point” that everybody was out to get him.

It was not a religious speech, so I disagree with Engel a bit.

However, I do note that in one of the NBC pictures, he has his hands raised in a prayer or god-like pose. I found that curious.

To have Engel outright say there is likely an Islamic connection here is interesting...he is a well-respected mainstream reporter.

I don’t think you can pin Cho’s actions in Islamic terms. He may have referenced a few things, but looking at the big picture I don’t hink his referenses were that of a convert but of rebellion against society by embracing a few facets of it’s enemy. Militant Islam is anti-west so Cho dabbled in a bit of its imagery out of spite and anger against society. This kid needed alot of help.

Not exactly islam, but more like those ancient Baal-worship type religions where babies are sacrificed in front of a top-heavy, deaf, dumb and blind god.

I have turned it off too. I think the media's obsession with this guy will only encourage copy cats. But when you think about it, does anyone remember the name of the nurse in Arizona who killed all those people, or the guy at the University of Iowa who shot 5 or 6 people? Eventually, they all disappear.

In his note Cho mentions “John Mark Karrs” and “Debra Lafaves” along with Bush, Kim Jong-Il, and Osama. It is just a disjointed mess of twisted logic from a deranged mind and nothing more.

He also calls “88” the “Number of the Anti-Terrorist”.

I don’t buy it.
His IQ is clearly too low for symbolic references across religions or causes.
He is no Una-bomber, and his writings/videos are juvenile.

Most of his behavior can be explained simply:
He was sad, sick, felt left out of life, evil overtook his reason, and he acted out the anger he felt for himself.
He was a small, ugly, angry man, impotent and crippled emotionally.
I think that’s all there is to it.
The stuff about Islam is far fetched and gives him too much credit.

Engel has probably seen much much more of the material than NBC has broadcast, giving me the impression that there is more to this Ismail thing than the media is letting on as of yet. References the Koran? What kind of references is what I want to know.

I would also note he said he was “going to die like Jesus Christ.”

Muslims do not believe that JC was crucified & returned from the dead. (They believe that Judas was replaced for him.)

At most, he was influenced by some muslim mumbo-jumbo, but it just as easily could have been Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I don’t know if he wasn’t “smart.” I would be surprised if his IQ was at least above average. This took some planning and gumption -— chaining the doors, etc. (No, that’s not a compliment. The Holocaust took some planning and gumption, too.)

Emotional quotient (EQ — also necessary for good creative writing)? A complete ‘tard.

But I do agree he wasn’t as IQ-smart as his elder sister (Princeton grad, well on her way) -— a big blow to a male in Korean society -— which is probably all it took for someone this unstable to feel worthless.

Interestingly, I have a Korean engineer who works for me.

His dad reported that the official news version in Korea is that this guy was a Chinese national.

Wonder if it’s just misreporting or wishful thinking.

Nonsense. His entire manifesto needs to be publically released so any of us can examine it and draw our own conclusions. This is a free country. The MSM is clearly agenda driven and they’ll do everything they can to protect their agenda. Thus, we do not need their phony pretend “filter out information for our own good” bs.

I have drawn my own conclusion.

We know that Cho was mentally ill. We know that he felt isolated. We know that his writing was filled with violent ideation. We know that his behaviour caused grave concern among many people. We know that he stalked women. We know that he shot a woman as his first act.

That is what we know. Until we know that Cho chanted or shouted all-akbar or that he visited even one mosque once this line of idle speculation is nothing more than a circle jerk.

If the shooter would have been white, the headlines would most certainly be “White racist kills minorities at VT”. Hate crimes are only reserved for whitey.

So the accuracy of the media is an article of faith with you? Have you never noticed how other instances of SJS (sudden jihad syndrome) have been ethnically cleansed by both the media and the government?

How did you interpret these events for instance - the Oklahoma University bombing of 2005 widely reported as not terror related, the El Al counter shooting in LA in 2002 reported as a despondent man with financial woes, and the driver who used his vehicle in 2006 to mow down students on the campus of North Carolina University.

How do you explain the repeated use by Cho of the logo “Ismail AX” including as a tatoo on his body at the time of his suicide attack?

In fact in NYC the Palestinian man who went on a shooting rampage at the Empire State Building in 1997 was also declared not terror related until this year when his family confessed the political motive to his “crime.”
