Undersea Expedition Finds 'Promising Data' (Archaeology)

Undersea expedition finds 'promising' data

GALVESTON, Texas, March 11 (UPI) -- A submarine expedition to the floor of the Gulf of Mexico has returned with "promising" clues regarding an ancient undersea shoreline there.

Anthropologist David Robinson told the Houston Chronicle that the expedition at the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary yielded some significant data, yet was hesitant to say the area was 20,000 years old.

"We found an area that looks like a promising place to do further research," he said of the 6-mile-long studied area.

The study also marked the first use of some new vital undersea technology and the initial underwater search in the gulf for historical human life.

The 24 scientists involved in the expedition will now determine whether the discovered shoreline does indeed date back to the last Ice Age.

If the scientific group can make that determination, it will then attempt to gather any available evidence regarding human habitation in the area during that time period, the paper said.

Well, maybe they can see how many Cat 5's have been there before, because according to some large hurricanes are directly related to global warming, caused by man of course.

(I might go one step further and name that 'man'....Bush). All his fault you know.

The Flowers Gardens are a beautiful place to dive. Had a face to face encounter with a manta ray there. Hope the archaeological "dig" doesn't screw up the reef.

Bush's relatives killed off all the mastodons, slashed and burned the vegetation, and caused the ancient shoreline to disappear.

That study has already been done. In the past, cat-5 hurricanes were much more frequent than now. 1,100 years ago, the frequency dropped off to the level we see today.

Well, it's always nice to read facts:) Thanks for providing them.

Ever hear Michael Savage (the Savage Nation) mention the little ice age? It seems it came and went without man's interference, back in the middle ages.

"It seems it came and went without man's interference, back in the middle ages. "

The little Ice Age was terrible for humans. The Younger Dryas was even worse.

And, there's the Older Dryas before the Younger Dryas. No-one knows for sure why they come and go.

Somewhere along the line will come the pitch for money. Private investors welcome but "the government should really sponsor this research."

Then there was the Last Glacial Maximum(LGM) 18,000-23,000 years ago...the coldest time during the last Ice Age. I suspect this is what 'whacked' the Neanderthals.
