Giuliani / Steele, in my opinion, would be very tough to beat.
Regards, Ivan
Nothing but OBL hype by Gallagher. These open borders types want nothing more than to convince us that the only person who can beat Hillery will be one of their own, Guiliani.
No, it's conservatives worst nightmare. I would never vote for any ticket with McCain on it. Even if it means Hillary.
It would be a nightmare for conservatives too.
Oh no... the Republicans will love that ticket... It will mean that they will be the lion that gets to eat the Antelope. We, on the other hand, will be the Antelope so it's little difference to us.
What kind of coffee are you drinking this morning? This post and your earlier one about the far left were both on the mark as well as hilarious.
Those were mildly amusing the first time I saw them, somewhat amusing the second time, a little amusing the third time, but now after about the dozenth rendition I'm getting tired of waiting for them to slow down the thread and having to scroll past them to get to something with substance. If you think they's so funny, put them on your FR home page and let people link to them.
Amen.
Don't forget, it's not just Hillary. It's Bill too, presumably as the "First Gentleman".
Regards, Ivan
It would be a stupid ticket. True. And the party line choir here on FR would be demanding we cross that apocryphal broken glass to vote for it.
After all, as long as the GOP nominee is .00000001% more conservative than the Dem, we must vote for him, or we're traitorous hippie scum.
Fortunately, those types are in the minority here, although they can get rather shrill.
You can say that again, especially the lower half.
Not only would it be their "worst nightmare," but it would be Conservatives worst nightmare and the end of the GOP. God save us from this disaster!
A conservative's worst nightmare would be Hillary or Osama making supreme court justice picks!!!
With all the shrill hysteria/name calling done by both sides these days, you are exactly right.
The first party to grow up and actually start being proactive will win the next election in a landslide, as most reasonable folks in America are getting pretty sick of all the whining and infighting. Both sides are getting ridiculous: Vote for MY candidate, or you are stupid, and/or evil, and or a RINO/DINO/Bootlicker/Whatever.
Who will be the first to rise above the fray and be the party of maturity?
What could be worse?
This is the same kind of difference I see between Rudy and Hillary. Hillary is like a Scot. She can be brutal, and terrible to her enemies, but it's not violence used to meet a national interest, just random or politically calculated against other Americans in the opposition.
Rudy on the other hand is more Irish about it... he doesn't know who his friends are. He'll have no problem using his heart felt desire to crush America's enemies abroad, to perform horrendous damage to the rights of Americans who are otherwise his friends. That's how it was when he was the Mayor. Even the people who agreed with him were usually annoyed at him because it wasn't just about being effective, it was about doing it his way.
I can see him banning all firearms ownership if the courts and Congress will let him. I can see him genuinely doing domestic spying, and implementing a domestic secret police. He'll do it all to root out terrorism, all from honest and noble intent. But it doesn't sound like a guy I want in charge.
This is all just speculation of course, and at the end of the day I'll vote for what I think is best for the country, but now is the time to talk about ideals. Its too soon to be pragmatic when the choices are all so far from the ideal.
Just my thoughts.
IMO, MadIvan It's a shame that for our next elections, any of us should even be considering a vote 'by the numbers'.
What we should be doing, IMO, is uniting and working now to promote the candidate that we know will do what's best for the country. Unfortunately, as long as the OBL can continue to divide the party, uniting is not going to happen.
I'd be very excited and supportive of a Rudy-McCain or a McCain-Rudy ticket. I believe they would kick butt over anyone the Dems might offer.
I doubt McCain would take a VP spot, but it would be great service to his country and party if he did.
I know I'm in the minority around here right now, but if this happens, I won't be for long.
Hillary/Obama.
I'm looking at your post and your tagline. Respectfully, I don't think you can make a serious case that Rudy or McCain are "evil." So, if I vote for them, even knowing that I take issue with some of their positions, I'm not voting for an "evil" at all.
On the other hand, I think a terrific case can be made that if you vote in a way that helps elect a left-wing socialist, then you are by default promoting an "evil."
It won't happen. In the long run, Rudy doesn't need someone with problems with the base. He'll go a lot farther with Condi or Jeb, and he knows it. He'll throw McCain a cabinet post.
McCain's people know they can't compete with Rudy, and are sending out feelers.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
