I do believe Mike Gallager has gone over to the dark side. He'll write and say anything for attention.

Earth to Mike: You've become irrelevant and damn sure don't speak for conservatives anymore.

An excellent choice that I honestly hadn't thought of. But this year it looks more and more like the Veep spot will be reserved for someone to pull in the base. It looks like the Republicans are going to try to win the Whitehouse by veering left and drawing from Clinton or Obama.

To his credit, Bush has always known that the right had the numbers to make it work. When he veered left it was out of a combination of principle and sloppy thinking, not populist pandering.

"No treat for conservatives either". I guess the concerns over social issues is the big question, but what about: Tenacious fighter in the war on terror and national defense? Cut tax rates in NYC 23 times and reversed a huge deficit and left office with a surplus? What about attacking NYC's welfare roles and removing hundreds of thousands while reinvigorating the city economy like crazy? What about attacking crime like no mayor in history, making NYC the safest big city in the world? What about throwing Arafat out of a Lincoln Center UN event ("we don't permit terrorists to part of this event")? What about the obvious superior leadership in the aftermath of 9-11? What about his stated intention of appointing strict constructionists to the bench? What about having an articulate leader who can give a press conference at a moment's notice and wow the attendees?

Yeah, I guess: no treat for conservatives either.

McCain has way tooooo much ego to take the #2 spot. I doubt if McCain plays good soldier this time either. I think there is a good chance that the loser runs third-party, especially if it is McCain. McCain is under the impression that he has put in his time and its his nomination.

Giuliani-McCain Ticket: Democratic Party's Worst Nightmare

You misspelled "Republican."

I agree. The only real difference between them is that Hillary seems to have taxation OCD. She can't stop chanting "tax the rich... tax the rich...tax the rich.... tax the rich."

I can't wait for the video recut of all of the clips of her saying "We're going to take that profit/take that money for the common good."

I would have zero hesitation sending Michael Steele on the grits and pork rinds circuit in the Deep South. He makes Obama look like a dunderheaded buffoon and the base will get stars in their eyes thinking of an eventual President Steele.

Why should we vote for who we think would win?

We should vote for who we think is RIGHT.

Gallagher is not the sharpest knife in the drawer

Not sure I'd even call him a "knife," nor agree that he's even in the drawer.

Otherwise, yeah.

Oh no... the Republicans will love that ticket... It will mean that they will be the lion that gets to eat the Antelope. We, on the other hand, will be the Antelope so it's little difference to us.

It would be a stupid ticket. True. And the party line choir here on FR would be demanding we cross that apocryphal broken glass to vote for it.

After all, as long as the GOP nominee is .00000001% more conservative than the Dem, we must vote for him, or we're traitorous hippie scum.

In their day, roughly 40% of their peers called the founders of this country traitors.

I'll wear that banner proudly these days on an issue like this.

Thank you for ignoring the remainder of my post. It would be stupid tactically - when the VP slot can be used to greater good. A Giuliani - Steele ticket would put some blue states into play, promote new talent and cause nervous breakdowns at DNC headquarters. McCain, to put it politely, is demented. That said, if the ticket is Giuliani / McCain, is that better than Hillary or Obama having the power to blow up the world? Undoubtedly, YES!

Won't ever happen. Neither ego will fit in the VP office.

That's true but it sure would make a great sit-com.

The JuliAnnie cheerleaders are already trying to shout down the opposition (not on this thread yet, but give them time) A choice between Hillary and Guilaini is a choice between stepping in dog squeeze from a great dane vs stepping in dog squeeze from a st bernard.
