NRA Sounds Alarms on Gun Control
Newsmax ^ | January 2, 2007 | Newsmax

The National Rifle Association is launching a preemptive attack on anticipated Democratic attempts to tighten gun control. The weapon: an illustrated pamphlet titled "Freedom in Peril.”

A draft of the document, which was recently leaked to the Internet, begins: "Second Amendment freedom stands naked in the path of a marching axis of adversaries far darker and more dangerous than gun owners have ever known. Acting alone and in shadowy coalitions, these enemies of freedom are preparing for a profound and foreboding confrontation in which they will not make the mistakes of their predecessors. We’d better be ready.”

The opening essay, "The Coming Confrontation,” is signed by two NRA executives, Wayne LaPierre and Chris W. Cox. It reads in part:

"It’s inevitable that terrorists will infest America for generations to come. It’s also inevitable that an anti-gun president will occupy the White House, and anti-gun forces will control the U.S. House and Senate . . .

"When these two certainties intersect, America’s anti-gun agenda will emerge in full force masquerading as an anti-terrorist agenda. Unless we are well-financed to face that moment, the final disarmament of law-abiding Americans will occur beneath the shroud of anti-terrorism legislation.”

The pamphlet takes shots at a variety of people and organizations that the NRA views as anti-gun. Among them:

The pamphlet also chastises the media as "The Tragedy Chasers,” contains unflattering caricatures of Michael Moore, Katie Couric and Rosie O’Donnell, and laments the actions of authorities in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina:

"For the first time in American history, New Orleans and other government officials ordered law enforcement officers to go door to door to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens at gunpoint.”

Following claims from some that the leaked pamphlet was in fact a hoax, NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam confirmed to ABC News that it was authentic, but maintained that it was an unedited draft that was "stolen during production.”

Sports "commentators", Tony Kornhole among them, are some of the least intelligent and most useless people in our nation. Also, they are often flaming liberals,

I don't need my sports commentators, or musicians, or work colleagues to be right wing Republicans, I just need them to be good at what they do. But when they inject their politics into where it doesn't belong, they lose me.

True enough. But I stand by my assertion that sports commentators are some of the biggest, most useless dolts ever produced by our great nation. If it weren't for our misplaced priorities, Tony Kornhole and Jim Rome would have to join Alan Iverson, Latrell Sprewell and Ron Artest at work at the local car wash. Instead, we glorify thugs with room temperature IQs, and create careers for those knuckle-dragging hangers-on known as sports "commentators". The fact that they're largely scumbag liberals only heightens my dislike of them.

That said, I dare Kornhole or anyone else to come take my guns...it won't be a pleasant experience for them.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Just how do these elect officials plan on disarming by force between 800,000 and 8,000,000 armed Americans who will all have very bad attitudes?

One at a time, with BATFE and local SWAT teams, plus FBI HRT teams, the ones who gave the FBIies the title "Federal Bureau of Incineration".

The 1100 doesn't kick much unless shooting prone. It still has the plastic buttplate. It has a 19" barrel, cylinder bore, +2 mag extension and tru-glo tukey sights on the vent rib. I have shot 3 shots touching (winchester super X rifled slugs) at 25 yards. It has never malfunctioned on anything from my light sporting clay loads to 00 buck and slugs in several 3gun/shotgun matches and practice. My Benelli owning friends think I'm lying, but I'm not.

Congress doesn't want to have to buy all of them back if they are banned outright

What makes you think they'd honor the 5th amendment any more than the second. California isn't buying back any banned "assault weapons", AFAIK.

Besides, how can they "buy back" something they never owned?

I wonder if the minute men at concord were considered "red coat killers"

You bet they were, and Damned Rebels too.

Still they were swiftly disabused of the notion that the Damned Rebels were pussies, right from day 1 of the war. A war which started because the authorities decided to confiscate arms belonging to the people. In that case not individual weapons, although some powder and ball for them, but the big prize the Redcoats were after was the American's cannon. Accounts differ, but if they got some of them, they did not get all of them. Even those the Regulars found were only spiked, and so poorly that they were repaired the next day.

Can't you do the same thing with the 7.63X39? Why are they so adamantly opposed to the 30 Caliber round?

Of course 7.62X39 uppers and proper magazines are readily available for the AR-15 and it's clones. My brother in law had one, so I gave him the majority of my stock of 7.62X39 for Christmas, since by then I'd stopped shooting my SKS very much, having moved up to 7.62x51 (.308)

The reason "they" are so opposed to the 7.62x39 or something similar is lack of muzzle velocity, along with "Not Invented Here".

A LEO at the range told me his is concerned about them banning the importation of ammo, which would really blow chunks for us AK owners.

Several domestic manufacturers load 7.62X39, both new manufacture and reloads. Cost is a bit higher of course, but you'd still be able to afford to practice and have a sufficient rainy day stock, I would imagine.

just read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy for an expansion of what you said about "priceless"-i couldn't put the book down-it is NOT Turner Diaries racist trash, but a serious post-apocalypse novel-nothing to do with gun control per se or politics at all-i wouldn't want to ruin it by telling the story here-McCarthy's writing is forceful and not for everyone, but i really like his stuff

If one must have an inexpensive weapon, a Garand, especially one converted to fire 7.62 NATO, (new barrel, not just inserts) would be a good choice, and even one 30-06 wouldn't be bad.

A surplus 7.62x54R bolt action(Mosin-Nagant) or an 8mm Mauser might also be useful. (See "Enemies Foreign and Domestic by former SEAL officer, Matt Bracken, aka (former?) FReeper Travis McGee )

i've always thought doctors and dentists were really useful citizens-and very intelligent so i'm not surprised that a large number of them i've met were firearms owners-my opthamologist just bought a .50 Barrett(you have to be a doctor to afford to shoot it much)-liberal professors(least useful members of society)don't like guns so much-too bad for them when things break down

Since you didn't heed the call to hand in your firearms, you will be branded a criminal and therefor subject to a swat team raid at 4am, where the local constabulary will dutifully fill you, your family and your home full of holes.

If you want to resist the gun confiscations, your best bet is to not be home if this comes to pass and go out and hunt down and kill the politicians that passed this law.

You'll probably wind up dead anyways, but at least you might have a chance to take a few of the sons of bitches with you.

The NRA, which I am a member, would "sound the alarm" on gun control all the time no matter what the circumstance. That's how they generate revenue and participation.

I personally think we should switch to 7.69X39 so we can use the enemy's ammo.

Well the original enemy, the Soviets/Russia, has switched to 5.45X39 and the Chicoms are in the process of switching to 5.8x42mm, both in a new bullpup, Type 95 carbine, and a more conventional model, the Type 03.

Type 03

Type 95.

(They make a version of the -95 in 5.56 NATO, which also accepts standard M-16 type magazines, the Type 97)

Oh, I thought this was a defensive weapon thread not a squirrel hunting thread.

You'd hunt squirrels with a .223? Not gonna be much meat left, I'm thinking.

But more seriously, if I had to go with a single shot weapon, I'd want something with more reach, at least 7.62NATO/.308, which is also available in the same H&R type. (It's also available in .444 Marlin, if you like a little masochism with your practice shooting, 44/70 might be a better "compromise", but the ballistics could best be described as "Rainbow", but it will take down a Bison)

Here is a link to the NRA pamphlet

I hope the NRA gets a new printer, or IT contractor. Somebody leaked this, and I doubt it was an NRA staff member or official.

I know Matt personally and have a signed copy of his book. We discussed lots of technical details as he was writing it.

7.62x54 ammo is getting fairly hard to find anymore. A rebarreled Garand with fresh furniture for sale at MidwayUSA is a fine way to go.
