The National Rifle Association is launching a preemptive attack on anticipated Democratic attempts to tighten gun control. The weapon: an illustrated pamphlet titled "Freedom in Peril.
A draft of the document, which was recently leaked to the Internet, begins: "Second Amendment freedom stands naked in the path of a marching axis of adversaries far darker and more dangerous than gun owners have ever known. Acting alone and in shadowy coalitions, these enemies of freedom are preparing for a profound and foreboding confrontation in which they will not make the mistakes of their predecessors. Wed better be ready.
The opening essay, "The Coming Confrontation, is signed by two NRA executives, Wayne LaPierre and Chris W. Cox. It reads in part:
"Its inevitable that terrorists will infest America for generations to come. Its also inevitable that an anti-gun president will occupy the White House, and anti-gun forces will control the U.S. House and Senate . . .
"When these two certainties intersect, Americas anti-gun agenda will emerge in full force masquerading as an anti-terrorist agenda. Unless we are well-financed to face that moment, the final disarmament of law-abiding Americans will occur beneath the shroud of anti-terrorism legislation.
The pamphlet takes shots at a variety of people and organizations that the NRA views as anti-gun. Among them:
The pamphlet also chastises the media as "The Tragedy Chasers, contains unflattering caricatures of Michael Moore, Katie Couric and Rosie ODonnell, and laments the actions of authorities in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina:
"For the first time in American history, New Orleans and other government officials ordered law enforcement officers to go door to door to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens at gunpoint.
Following claims from some that the leaked pamphlet was in fact a hoax, NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam confirmed to ABC News that it was authentic, but maintained that it was an unedited draft that was "stolen during production.

PING!
Everyone who is eligible (and doesn't already own one) should buy a gun as soon as possible and learn how to use it.
I'm expanding on your excellent advice.

This is interesting...of the five "named" individuals (forget the UN or PETA for the moment), three are women, one is a Hungarian a$$wipe who wouldn't get his hands dirty actually participating in a gun sweep and the fifth is John Kerry. Of the five only John Kerry has any combat experience --and that was shooting and killing a wounded and unarmed VC soldier.
I say this because of Feinstein's immortal comment about gun confiscation. Let's see, there's about 80 MILLION gun owners in the USA. If gun bans/confiscations are ever ordered about 90% of those 80 Million will just roll over and comply. That leaves about 8 Million who will most likely "stick to their guns" so to speak. Even if we drop the non-compliant numbers to 1% that's still about 800,000 armed Americans who won't give up their firearms without a fight.
Just how do these elect officials plan on disarming by force between 800,000 and 8,000,000 armed Americans who will all have very bad attitudes?
Tonight I heard Tony Kornheiser, who I really enjoy as a sports commentator, say one of the stupidest things. Referring to the killing of the Bronco player in Denver, he said there are "too many guns out there".
He should stick to sports.
Buy at least one gun, check
Buy plenty of ammo, check
Learn how to use them, check
Mego-ditto that to the Nth degree.
Join the NRA, obtain your CCW, practice, practice, practice!
Joe,
Here's one for your Bang list...Best Regards, T_J
.22 rimfire ammo will be the Wampum of choice after it hits the fan. 40 or 50 bricks of 500 rds. each should do the trick. Initial investment: $800-$1000. Post apocalypse value: Priceless.
Rifles in .223, .308 and 30-06. Pistols in 9mm, 45Auto. That covers the stock military calibers. Well regulated means coming to the party with a common caliber that shoots the standard coin of the realm. A rifle in 7.62x39 probably wouldn't hurt either. Lots of ammo around in that caliber.
And give $$ support to the NRA's legislative efforts so that the 2008 election outcome is better than the atmosphere opposed to gun rights now!!!
BTTT
That's why they are so eager to ban .50-caliber rifles first. It's kind of difficult to maintain a 1000-yard perimeter around your limousine.
bump.
I expect that the 50 BMG will be made a Class III weapon, because the Congress doesn't want to have to buy all of them back if they are banned outright. I also expect that it will only be a matter of days after that when someone comes up with a wild-cat, necked down 49 BMG.
"For the first time in American history, New Orleans and other government officials ordered law enforcement officers to go door to door to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens at gunpoint.
Don't worry, they were just practicing for the total disarmament of the law abiding citizens of Amerika... of course it's "for their own good."
