S.O.P. for the Left....when their policies induce widespread revolt and derision, don't change the policies, change the language used to describe them.

Someone on the radio just used the term, "intellectual fascism." Talk about hitting the nail on the head.

I thought Donna Shalala coined the term "political correctness".

What nitwits! The phrase 'politically correct' originally came from the left as a description of a secular-leftist analog of 'holier than thou'.

Well to be fair the term was offending some people. To be pol... err, to be multi-culturally and diplomatically (MAD) sensitive, we should just call it being MAD. That won't offend anyone except those who are angry already (and they are already a lost cause).

'The term political correctness was coined in 1988 by John O'Sullivan III, who was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. He was making an after dinner speech complaining about how Black Americans were being allowed to take the jobs traditionally reserved for the white majority because of a wave of political correctness.

Actually, I believe it is a translation of one of Mao's edicts.

Nope, it's a lot older than that (see #4).

So much to comment on.
But "using the phrase can equal a physical attack" lost out to
"the word 'ethnic' is...outlawed for being not 'appropriately descriptive."

Gotta wonder what they had in mind to replace 'ethnic'...?

And workers are instructed to come up with 10 things they can do every day to make colleagues feel better.

I can think of ten ways my colleagues can make me feel better. Oddly enough, they all involve leaving me alone to do my job.

Lies.

The term "politically correct" comes from MARXISTS, who used it in all earnest to describe statements which agreed with their politics. It was picked up by ex-socialist neo-conservatives to beat up the Marxists because of the absurdity of looking at everything through a political lens. Leftists absolutely HATE the term because they know how effective it is for blowing them off. But it cam from leftists, in the first place.

I present you with proof that the term "politically correct" predates the year 1988 and comes from leftists, not conservatives. Here you will find a discussion from the net.women group of the old Usenet (which used to only have net. and mod. groups) about the term "politically correct" dated July 18, 1985. It was posted to net.women, which was at the time a feminist and leftist haven and you'll find references to it being used in leftist circles long before this date in this thread. I can do more research if anyone really cares.

But like I said, the Left hates the term "politically correct" because it makes it difficult for them to hide their nonsense.
