Second Amendment Sisters: As Goes the Second Amendment, So Goes the First

LAKEWAY, TX. For decades Constitution-defenders have been warning that the Second Amendment provides the protection for all other amendments in the Bill of Rights; that it provides the ultimate protection of the Constitution of the United States, itself. Without the ability to forcibly defend ourselves and our way of life, we are in peril of losing all those Creator-given rights along with this unique experiment in governance.

Now, Sarah Brady, the figurehead of Handgun Control, Inc., has shown that she will take away from her opponents not only their right to keep and bear arms, but also their right to free speech. It is happening in Illinois as part of the race for governor.

He said. She said. They said. In the heat of the election season reasonable people pay scant attention to allegations and counter-allegations. The proverbial grain of salt is sprinkled upon campaign-ad messages. However, local elections can become national news in peculiar ways.

He (Governor Blagojevich of Illinois) said an assault rifle was described in a certain manner. She (Judy Baar Topinka, candidate for Governor of Illinois) said “. . . the definition is so vague that a rolling pin could be considered an assault weapon.” He used her statements in campaign advertising; she joked about his ads at a fund-raiser. He demanded an apology; she refused. This is the kind of thing that is happening across the country as we align ourselves for the decisions voters will make in November.

Then, they inserted themselves into the public eye, and it was suddenly national news. Jim and Sarah Brady, proclaiming their Illinois residency, in a USNewswire Press Release on 9/14/06 joined in condemning Ms. Topinka and pleading for the apology.

Why is Ms. Topinka being asked to apologize? Interestingly, it is not because of the implicit violence in her promise to beat Blagojevich with that rolling pin, but, rather, because of her position on gun control. Judy Baar Topinka holds “extreme views on the subject” of gun control according to the woman whose victim status is exploited by an organization whose stated goal is the elimination of all private ownership of handguns.

There was no reported negative reaction from members of the audience at the fund-raiser. The disturbing fact is that segments of our population are increasingly being silenced about important subjects. Speakers such as Secretary of State Condeleesa Rice are protested on college campuses; others are shouted down in the same venues. Elementary school children are sent home for drawing pictures of guns. Politicians with pro-gun tendencies are not allowed to discuss the subject without anti-gun activists demanding silence or apologies.

Second Amendment Sisters sympathize with the Illinois governor. It is difficult to define an assault weapon. There are not actually distinct qualities that make a particular gun an “assault weapon.” Fortunately, laws are not like art in that one may be unable to define it, and yet know it when one sees it. Laws must be clear to have value.

One thing is clear from the rush of Mr. and Mrs. Brady to condemn a politician for noticing the shortcomings in a proposed definition that could rob citizens of Constitutionally guaranteed rights. The people who would deprive us of one right are willing and waiting to deprive us of all rights.

Second Amendment Sisters is a grassroots organization dedicated to preserving the individual basic human right to self-defense.

The ironic thing is that Judus Barr Too-pink-for-me is a gun grabber herself. She's just moving 'right' now (verbally) to try to fool the electorate here.

But WE ain't buying it. She's just as bad as the current moron gov of ours.

Don't let JBT fool you basil. She's just as anti-2nd as the Brady Bunch.

The only reason she said what she said is to try to fool the downstaters into thinking she's pro-gun. She isn't. She never has been and she never will be.

Do not vote for this woman.

It isn't about the Illinois race; it is about the Brady's jumping in to make some more headlines for the anti-gun crowd. Whether or not Topinka is pro-gun, the statements she made were. Handgun Control, Inc. is using whatever opening they can find to get into the news. The important part is that they are once again trotting out the "assault weapon" ban. This time on a state level.

You are right. Any weapon used in an assault is an assault weapon. But it isn't about the assault: it is about trying to make something sound scary and thereby illegal. And not really being about to exactly describe what it is except that it is scary.

That would have read: "And not really being able to exactly describe what is is, except that it is scary." Must be why they let you preview before you post, huh? Excsue me folks. I'm new here.

One thing is clear from the rush of Mr. and Mrs. Brady to condemn a politician for noticing the shortcomings in a proposed definition that could rob citizens of Constitutionally guaranteed rights.

I haven't heard much out of Sarah for quite some time. I thought perhaps she had a change of heart after her brush with death from cancer, and maybe decided not to continue her cruel practice of dragging her poor disabled husband around the country and displaying him in public venues as though he was a stuffed and mounted victim of some dreaded disease. Between her and former Senator Max Cleland they're giving disabled folks a very bad name.

I can feel sorry for both Jim Brady and Max Cleland, I don't enjoy seeing anyone suffering their way through life as paraplegics the way they are even though I'm thoroughly disgusted by their anti-American political activities. But the 2nd Amendment is not responsible for Cleland carelessly dropping a live grenade on his feet, nor for a deranged young man trying to impress a movie star by shooting the President with a gun which he could easily have bought illegally on the streets of the D.C. even if all guns had been banned everywhere in the nation at the time.

People who want guns to use in crime don't care how many antigun laws are enacted in Illinois. They will always have guns precisely because they're criminals, and criminals are by definition people who don't obey laws that interfere with satisfying their desire for money, revenge, sex, thrills, whatever. According to what I read, there is more of what the MSM calls "gun crime" in the maniacally hoplophobic UK now than before all handguns were totally banned there 9 years ago. Yeah, that gun ban thingy is working out just ducky over there isn't it Limeys? I tolljaso, gun bans don't work as advertised, never have, never will.

I won't personally be voting for her, since I'm in Texas--but it so galling to have to choose whichever candidate we think is lying the least!

Republican politics here in our Peoples Republik would leave your head spinning dear lady.

I'm leaving the Governors race blank this year. But I will be voting the rest of the ballot.

2 election cycles ago my choice was between a pro-gun, pro-life Democrat (yes there was such a thing) and an anti-gun, pro-abortion Republican.

I pulled the lever for the Dem. But George Ryan was elected in a sqeaker. Now this year I was able to cheer, jump up and down wildly, and cackle with glee as George Ryan was convicted on corruption charges and sentenced to a fairly lengthy prison term.

As I said, Illinois politics is beyond bizarre.

"The 2nd Amendment protects us from tyranny. Therefore, the 2nd Amendment is our most sacred heirloom from our Founding Fathers. Protect it...indeed, protect it at all costs...even under pain of death...it is that important.

I think the above quote should be added to the Pledge of Allegiance...

If a rolling pin is an assault weapon, should we then register the owners of rolling pins, have a waiting period to purchase a rolling pin, license the people who buy rolling pins? It is not the issue of "assault" it is defining a type of firearm so that its purchase, ownership, and use can be limited.

But keep in mind that the right to keep and bear ARMS refers to no specific weapon. Our founders realized that people would develop new and improved arms through time. Some countries WOULD do all the above to rolling pins, should they become a weapon of choice to the oppressed population.
