Kim Jong-il's Niece Killed Herself in France

Parents opposed her love affair with a man with bad ideological background
[2006-09-15 13:19]

Jang Sung-taek, Kim Jong-il's brother-in-law
Jang Kum-song(age:29), the only daughter of Jang Sung-taek(age:60), Kim Jong-il's brother-in-law, and First Director of Worker's Organization and Capital Construction Division of N. Korea's ruling party, is reported to have committed suicide recently in France.

A source on N. Korea in Europe said on Sept. 14, "We learned that Ms. Jang recently took her own life in France, and it is due to 'love problem.'"

Ms. Jang is the daughter of Jang Sung-taek, and Kim Kyong-hee, the sister of Kim Jong-il. She was said to be studying in France.

According to the source, she dated a N. Korean man, while traveling back and forth between France and Pyongyang. However, the man's ideological background is not good, and her parents were vehemently opposed to her love affair, resulting in her suicide.

Jang Sung-taek himself ran into opposition from Kim Il-sung(my note: Kim Kyong-hee's father and the leader of N. Korea at the time)  when he dated her, because Jang's ideological background was inferior.
The source added, "Jang Sung-taek and Kim Kyong-hee have been separated for a long time, and Kim Kyong-hee cannot venture outside her home these days due to her alcoholism."

Kim family do love France. Kim's family members sought medical treatment in France. Now it turned out that Kim Jong-il's niece was studying in France.

I am sure French intel monitors them. I wonder what French usually ask U.S. in return for giving some intelligence on Kim family's activities in France.

I wonder what will happen to the boyfriend? Or maybe they did something to him already and that's why she killed herself?

Re #4

Possible. At the least, they threatened to her that if she does not back out, he will be in real trouble.

Since she killed herself, he is in trouble now, if not already.

You would be surprised at how many of the world's worst dictators through the 20th Century spent time studying in Paris.

Answer: almost all of them.

Re #5

Well, it usually means that there is no revolutionary hero or high official in his extended family. Worse, some family members ran away to S. Korea during the Korean War, or his family used to be bourgeois class.

In that regard, Hu Jintao could be viewed as having a bad ideological background because his father used to be an owner of a small shop.:)

the man's ideological background is not good

Does this imply he was sane?

Jokes aside, French Intel is very good, as are the active branches. And French interogation is very effective and well developed. They have had lots of practice over the years.

Nopw of course the military, for the most part, and the political groups are laughable. But it is a mistake to underestimate the French Intelligence services.

Well, something French I can finally agree with and endorse! Thanks for expanding my horizons before I made further fool of myself. (This may even balance out the fact that they also gave us the mime!)

On the military/resistance aspect of France, I had an interesting talk w a neighbor of mine who spends some time in France.

We were talking about French culture, and he mentioned that the current French population is somewhat brainwashed by a rewriting (or possibly reweighting) of French history. In a nutshell he said that French history books have been rewritten so that resistence vs. military discussions are about 12 to 1. Admittedly that is where there successes were but I just thought that was interesting.

Where was the Ayatollah Khomeini living in exile prior to the 1979 overthrow of the Shah?

Hint: Khomenini enjoyed sipping coffee at a sidewalk cafe every day while listening to young men in striped shirts and berets play the accordian.
