Jim Nussle's campaign for governor includes a different stance on abortion than what he proposed in 2002 when he sought another term in Congress.
In a recent survey by Project Vote Smart, the Republican says -- quote -- "abortions should be legal only within the first trimester of pregnancy."
Four years ago Nussle expressed another opinion on the matter during a taping of Iowa Public Television's "Iowa Press." When asked under what conditions a woman should be permitted to have an abortion, Nussle said -- quote -- "I don't have conditions."
Chet Culver, his Democratic rival in the race for governor, repeatedly refused to provide any responses to the survey, according to Project Vote Smart. However, Culver has generally taken a pro-choice position on abortion, and was endorsed by Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa during the Democratic primary.

Culver has been quoted as saying he'll bring back TouchPlay. He supports repleal of Iowa's English as the official language law. And you could expect a Culver Administration to sign a Gay Marriage bill.
I'm disappointed in this move to the left by Jim. But at least he is not supporting Partial Birth Abortion.
I will continue to support Nussle. Eventho I share a different view on his abortion stance, I still think Conservatives stand a better chance of having our priorities addressed with Nussle in Terrace Hill.
We're all going to have to look at the Big Picture, nonliberal. I hope you'll study the Democrat's platform and then come back into the fold.

Do we know if WOI has a history of slanting news reports? I'm so far away from Ames/DM that I don't get those TV stations.

The enemy is not the DemocRATS, the enemy is liberalism as a concept. We are not going to be able to put up a fight against liberalism (in all of its forms) in the RAT party unless we clean our own house first.

If Chet wins and the moderate Republicans see an opportunity to make their move on social issues, you'll be sorry you didn't vote for the most conservative candidate on the ticket.
Parental Notification will be gutted and signed.
Gay Marriage will be approved and signed.
Touch Play will return to convienience stores, tanning salons, grocery stores and more.
Euthenasia will be legalized.
English as the Official Language will be reversed. I cannot imagine the cost of printing every single document put out by the state in 7 or 8 languages (currently there are 8 languages being spoken in Iowa,, how long until some cocky lawyer decided to make a name for himself/herself by suing the state?)

You are absolutely correct. Now how do you plan to accomplish this except through the primary process? I do not see where deliberately electing RATS will accomplish this.

I tried to find his website but for some reason my computer searched and searched. I want to call his campaign office. We need to bombard his office with questions.

Not at all. I have been very active in Republican politics for 15 years and there have been very few candidates that I have worked to help elect that did not turn out to be a huge disappointment. While I have developed a certain, perverse delight in my own iconoclasm, it is not much fun to be continuously let down by the people you believed in enough to help put into office.

Because, unlike Keyes and guys like that, I fully recognize that I am unelectable. If a guy gets up in front of a crowd and starts talking about capitalism, people's eyes glaze over. I also recognize, unlike McCain, that my personality can sometimes be entirely to volatile to be elected.
I also refuse to subject myself, my friends or my family to the accompanying media rectal exam.
Nonliberal, I have a question for you: Pretend you're governor. The legislature sends you legislation that would outlaw all abortions in the second and third trimester except in the case of rape and incest. Would you sign the legislation?
I would at least have the brains NOT to say that I think abortion should be legal in the first trimester and kill my support in western Iowa.

I would describe myself as strongly pro-choice. I think every woman should be able to choose whether or not to have a child. If she doesn't want one then her choice is simple and 100% ethical. She can close her legs and avoid sleeping around.
Because we are just supposed to be good sheep and just keep pulling the "R" lever no matter how bad they get.
