[Michael Barone] Our covert enemies
Townhall.com ^ | August 21, 2006 | By Michael Barone

In our war against Islamo-fascist terrorism, we face enemies both overt and covert. The overt enemies are, of course, the terrorists themselves. Their motives are clear: They hate our society because of its freedoms and liberties, and want to make us all submit to their totalitarian form of Islam. They are busy trying to wreak harm on us in any way they can. Against them we can fight back, as we did when British authorities arrested the men and women who were plotting to blow up a dozen airliners over the Atlantic.

Our covert enemies are harder to identify, for they live in large numbers within our midst. And in terms of intentions, they are not enemies in the sense that they consciously wish to destroy our society. On the contrary, they enjoy our freedoms and often call for their expansion. But they have also been working, over many years, to undermine faith in our society and confidence in its goodness. These covert enemies are those among our elites who have promoted the ideas labeled as multiculturalism, moral relativism and (the term is Professor Samuel Huntington's) transnationalism.

"The worst difficulties from which we suffer...come from within. They do not come from the cottages of the wage earners, they come from a peculiar type of brainy people always found in our country, who, if they add something to its culture, take much from its strength. Our difficulties come from the mood of unwarrantable self-abasement into which we have been cast by a powerful section of our own intellectuals.... Nothing can save England if she will not save herself. If we lose faith in ourselves, in our capacity to guide and govern,if we lose our will to live, then indeed our story is told." -Winston Churchill

When I read Barone's piece here, I swear the "covert" enemy he is talking about has as it's political emblem the A$$! dims must be defeated as well as the terrorists themselves, because they are strong allies against good, and have been infected with the worst kind of EVIL. dims=EVIL!

Barone's revulsion is well-placed... it echo's the sentiments of many.

Our covert enemies are harder to identify

NYT, self-identified liberals, immigrant Mohammedans, CBSNBCNPRABCETC, the Ivy league and satellites, NEA, illegal Hispanic immigrants; well that's some of them.

He is saying the Rats are the covert enemy. It is a smack across the face with the glove challenging a duel.

If you are a Rat, you are the enemy. If you are a pacifist, you are the enemy. If you are an appeaser, you are the enemy.

(think John Kerry and most of the Democrat Party today).

Kerry and his ilk... are just playing to an audience. The same audience that has enabled the forces of evil for time immemorial.

These are the ideas that have been transmitted over a long generation by the elites who run our universities and our schools, and who dominate our mainstream media. They teach an American history with the good parts left out and the bad parts emphasized.

In other dear Pogo we have met the enemy - and he is the Left within us. They're the ones who hate the President, loathe our country, belittle the achievements of our Armed Forces and work for our defeat day and night. Our free society has its covert enemy no less deadly than the one we're fighting abroad.

This is quite a hard-hitting piece by Barone, who is usually less forceful, although always perceptive.
