We Gotta Have Hartz!

Well, it seems as if the rank and file elitist Country Club Republicans are flexing their muscles in the High Desert, not to mention down the hill, too, when it comes to who backs whom for the 59th assembly district race and why.

When it comes to the two most likely frontrunners in the Victor Valley—encompassing Hesperia and Apple Valley—longtime GOP grass-roots crusader and people’s champion, Barry Hartz, versus government bureaucracy insider and recipient of Supervisor (San Bernardino County First District) Postmus’ back-scratching political favors, Anthony Adams, the battle lines have clearly been drawn and it’s easy to see, when big bucks are concerned, how even faithful party activists like the founder of the California Tea Party Tax Protest Movement, Mr. Hartz, are left behind in the wake of “politics as usual” (usually reserved for the other side, but never completely disappearing from the scene of Republican politics, too).

The 59th Assembly District stretches from Monrovia and portions of the East San Gabriel Valley—including Glendora, San Dimas and La Verne—to the desert towns of Apple Valley and Hesperia, and if one were to venture upon the Adams official campaign web site, they would get the impression that, if all of these listed politicians and influential local and state party hot shots are endorsing this former executive analyst to Supervisor Bill Postmus, then, surely, Mr. Adams must be the better-qualified candidate to represent constituents in Sacramento; surely, over all these years, he has had his pulse on what the people think about their most pressing concerns by working with them, side by side, and making constant trips up to our state capitol to lobby legislators on behalf of the folks back home, right?

Well, not exactly.

Yet, everyone from Assemblywoman Sharon Runner, her husband and State Senator George Runner, the mayors of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Hesperia and Victorville, as well as the mayor pro-tem of Arcadia, to the San Bernardino County Sheriff, L.A. County Sheriff, and many a Victor Valley city council and school district board member is on record for giving the nod to Mr. Adams.

So, claims of elitism run amok and politics as usual aside, how does candidate Adams stack up to candidate Hartz?

For starters, no one in this race for the 59th district on the GOP side of the aisle has more grass roots leadership than Barry does, has more business leadership experience than Barry does, or can even begin to hold a candle to Barry when it comes to working his way up to being the financial success in the private sector that he (Barry) is today--all the while, fighting hard behind (and in front of, as well) the scenes to ensure that the good peoples' voices of California are heard loud and clear in Sacramento, not to mention all of the Victor Valley, as well.

Mr. Adams claims to be a “businessman.” Really? And what businesses, exactly, has Mr. Adams ever filed an IRS Schedule SE form for? As he correctly stated at one of the public candidate forums, the answer is none!

Which High Desert Republican Headquarters has Mr. Adams ever founded, and raised the necessary funds for, in the High Desert or otherwise? Answer: none.

Which California Tea Party Tax Protest Movement did Mr. Adams create in 2003 to remind legislators that they are the stewards, not the owners of the people’s money? Answer: none.

Which California Chamber of Commerce recognized Mr. Adams in 2004 for his tax-fighting efforts as one of its “Small Business Advocates of the Year?” Again, the answer is none.

And, when the good people of the High Desert organized on May 5, at the “Celebrate Citizenship” rally on the streets of the Victor Valley, where were Anthony Adams and his political cronies? Candidate Adams and his entourage of GOP "fat elephants" (as opposed to "fat cats") were nowhere to be found—I can certainly vouch for that, because I was there with my family for the duration of the event.

The only candidate for the 59th Assembly District I saw that day leading the troops and keeping the peace was Barry Hartz.

Barry’s a true, tested and legitimate Republican and a gentleman, who has served his time, and then some, in the trenches of local and state politics. He’s been there for the party, for the people, for California, time and time again. It’s high time that we, as a people, take a stand for this good man and the most qualified and experienced candidate to rightfully earn himself an office at the state Capitol.

Now, instead of abandoning all hope in our state representatives, “We Gotta Have Hartz!”

Dear Fellow Freepers,

I don't make any claims to be the next great-George Will, Thomas Sowell, Dennis Prager, etc., but I am a proud conservative Republican who has "had it up to HERE!" with "politics as usual," "back-scratching, back-room political deals," and "elitism Country Club GOP 'fate elephants'" run amok.

If any of you are at all familiar with the 59th Assembly District race in California (encompassing the greater parts of Monrovia, Arcadia, Glendora, San Dimas, and La Verne all the way up to the High Desert towns of Apple Valley and Hesperia), then let me introduce you to a fine, worthy, decent, "grass roots crusader" and "people's champion" in one Mr. Barry Hartz.

For the record, here's a copy of the exact e-mail message I just shot off to a big shot in the San Bernardino County Republican Party's upper echelon, and it will give you a clear indidcation of where THIS grass roots activist and party loyalist (well, at least I used to be) stands when it comes to REAL, legit' in-touch-with-the-people candidates like Mr. Hartz and how he, in particular, is getting the shaft by the same party "leaders" he's been pulling the load for all these years:

Adam,

I'm not into "mud-slinging" type of politics, but, as a die-hard GOP grass roots activist from the High Desert of So Cal, I'm utterly disappointed in "politics as usual" and elitist Country Club Republicans taking over the race for who supports whom when it comes to the GOP's nod for the 59th Assembly District race.

So much for loyalty over so many years, keeping one's finger on the pulise of the people, and working tirelessly behind (and in front of, too) the scenes time and time again--but, this one candidate I'm referring to (none other than Mr. Barry Hartz) IS, indeed the ONLY candidate, let's remember, who has the full endorsement of the OUTGOING ASSEMBLYMAN MOUNTJOY!

Yes! We WILL beat the "fat elephant" Republicans of the High Desert and the Inland Empire; we WILL beat Christopher Lancaster; we WILL beat Susan Slater; and, we WILL beat every one of the "you-scratch-my-back-and-I'll-scratch-yours" kind of hot-shot so-called Republican leaders out there, you can be sure of that.

And, you folks wonder why the conservative base of the Republican Party is fed up with politics and threatens to sit this one out in 2006 AND 2008.

I'll give you credit if you and your staff take the time to read THIS conservative GOPer's take on how Mr. Adams stakcks up to Mr. Hartz in the Victor Valley, via a link to my letter to the editor ("Candidate with Heart") in this past Tuesday's (May 16) edition of the "Voice of the People" in The (San Bernardino County) Sun newspaper:

http://www.sbsun.com/voiceofpeople/ci_3826125

No hard feelings, but I am quite DISAPPOINTED on how all of you have seemingly SOLD OUT, once again to big money and big favors.

Now, more than ever, "We Gotta Have Hartz!"

The letter to the editor (as posted here on FreeRepublic.com) is an abridged version of all what I wanted to say to the readers, but, for editing constraints by the newspaper (The Sun), was limited to a fraction of my original piece.

Are there any other tired, disgusted and just plain worn out conservative Republicans like my wife and I (who, for the record is a proud Black-conservative Republican) who have "had it up to here" with elitism in the GOP (at just about any level you can think of), but know full well we have no choice, but to either tolerate the "same-ol'-same-ol'" in the party, or, heaven forbid, just refrain from any political activity (including voting for Republican candidates) from here on out? (I know we can't certainly do that, but it IS, indeed, tempting, is it not?!)

Vote conservative only. Accept no substitution, no matter how much the Republicans shriek and yell out that the sky will fall, or if you are wrongfully accused of "voting Democrat" for not being shallow and abandoning your core beliefs and ethos.

The G.O.P.'s Perpetual Dis-Motion Machine will come to a stop if we only would cease feeding it.

In Southern Arizona the disaffected Conservatives, fed up with the 18 years of go-along get-along practiced by Representative Jim Kolbe, ran a conservative candidate in the 2004 primary. He nearly beat Kolbe. Thus, when Kolbe began to consider his future in 2006 he walked. Chances are he will be replaced by someone who is much more attuned to Southern Arizonas who are fed up with a situation out of control. The point? Conservatives can do something about the situation if they will just try to take charge of politics. Unite, dammit, unite.

Oddly enough, I have a Hartz sign in my front yard.

So does my neighbor.

Who is this Adams guy?

Oh, that's too funny!

I'm not exactly sure what Anthony Adams official post is today, but, at one while, he was some sort of "executive council" (or something like that) for San Bernardino County, and has worked for Bill Postmus for a bit, too.

For a while (even before he became close to Postmus), after my aunt had met him (Adams) at some sort of City of Hesperia function, she passed along his e-mail address to me and said that we'd get along fine, since he, like me, very much enjoys singing all kinds of songs, and has a passion for politics and "diving right in and getting hands dirty" and such.

Well, I e-mailed the guy (Adams) over and over and over, again, and, to this day, never did get ANY reply back. (That's a side note to this whole campaign for the 59th district, but I always found it a bit humorous at the same time--HA!).

You can check out his site at anthonyadams.com and let me know what you think, but you'll quickly see how just about anybody who's anybody when it comes to GOP politics in the High Desert, in particular, is reportedly on record for endorsing Adams, when it's been Barry Hartz over all these years who's been working on re-election campaigns and initivatives and governor recalls (remember Gray Davis?), presidential elections, fundraisers for the police and fire departments...you name it!

I've been working with Barry (I'm quite familiar of his character and integrity, but I can't come right out and say anything negative about Mr. Adams in this respect, since I only am familiar with him as a candidate, and not on a personal basis), and on his campaign--on a grass roots level, but also in distributing literature and writing all kinds of letters to the editors of newspapers up and down the Cajon Pass--since he shared with me way back when that he was running for the vacated 59th seat.

You want to see and hear grass roots politics? I'm spending my Saturdays up in the Hesperia and Apple Valley regions--on any given busy street corner--displaying yard signs and campaign literature, not to mention spend four hours at a time waving a large and colorful "We Gotta Have Hartz" 4'X4' sign to motorists passing by--then, I turn around during the work week and do it all over again as many week days as possible down in Glendora, La Verne and San Dimas after my day at the office is over and my wife gives me the necessary permission to do so (HA!).

In fact, I'm staging, yet, another one-man "Hartz for State Assembly" street corner rally come this Saturday, May 20, from ten in the morning 'til about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Hesperia Road.

It would REALLY be nice to have at least a handful of folks to keep me company (though, I'm quite prepared to do this by myself up to and including the June 6 primaries) while I'm out there getting Barry's name and web site out in front of public view.

We're building momentum in time for June 6 (which, by the way, happens to be my birthday), but we're pushing ahead just as strong as if we were way behind in anybody's polls at this point (which, I doubt we are behind, but you just don't want to take anything for granted!).

Gott go! I'm actually typing this out to all who might be interested via my office computer here in Glendora, and so I must close out for now.

Good to hear that there are folks out there supporting the RIGHT CHOICE candidate for the 59th Assembly District seat in California.

All the best!

Well after reading all the glowing comments about Barry Hartz I can only believe that not one of the authors has ever attended a meeting in which Barry Hartz was in attendance. My experience at such meetings leaves me with wonderment as to how he could ever be an elected assemblyman. Never in all my years in the business world have I ever come across anyone who comes close to him in being a disruptive force - not just at one meeting, but time and again. He blusters, he stutters, he screams, he accusses, he looses all control.
There doesn't appear to be any reason for many of his outbursts, except to get attention - not for any purpose - just his need to be noticed.
I can't begin to imagine how he could be effective in Sacramento - I have yet to discover how in any way, he would be able to work with fellow Republicans in making headway on any issue. My read on Barry Hartz is that he is about Barry, about what Barry wants, what Barry thinks is important, and how Barry wants things done. I have never seen him give any consideration for anyone else's point of view or beliefs.
To sum up my observations of Barry Hartz - he is a buffoon.
This Tea Party that he prides himself on was and is nothing but a failure - what did it accomplish? Besides getting himself pumped up - and providing him and apparently you all something to talk about for years on end. Again, what successes came about as a result of it?
Yes, I do agree he does well on the street corner - I imagine he is in his element there - getting folks as stoked up as he himself is. I would gladly buy signs for him to use in his rallys - it's clearly the place he belongs.
My wish for Barry Hartz is that he would learn to play golf and spending his golden years on the golf course where he could do no harm.
