My brother is missing (prayer request)
Self

Posted on 05/14/2006 5:42:19 PM PDT by infool7

My brother Bill has been missing since April 10th . He lives in Chicago around 43rd and the Dan Ryan. His friend has been looking for him and did not know how to contact me. After he missed his second drill(he is in the reserves) the Navy got concerned and called me. The police will not file a missing persons report for an adult but I think the Navy will do it tomorrow.

My brother is a member of the U.S. Navy reserves and he has recently served in Kuwait and Japan. Please pray for the safety of my brother.

Update: I filed the missing persons report at the 8th District and let the Navy investigator know the case #, she was able to check his base bank acct at Great Lakes and there hasn't been any activity. She also expects to see one of Bill's fellow reservists today and get some additional information about the events just prior to his disappearance

Thanks all of you for your ideas it has been a great help in getting things going. When I didn't know what to do or where to start you provided an abundance of options. I hope I didn't miss anyone. Thanks Again

Is there a way for the phone company to try calling your brother's cell number? If someone else answers the police may be able to track that person down and find out what information they have concerning your brother's whereabouts. Stolen cell phones are often sold to third parties.

You might try the FBI or the State Police if the local authorities can't find him. A good private investigator may also help if all else fails. Good luck and may God keep your brother safe.

Thank You for your thoughts and prayers

Now that a missing persons report has been filed the Navy investigator can check into his call activity and perhaps even check several networks for his ESN or A-Key. Ill mention that to her.

No word yet but it seems that his pals in the Navy are getting involved. I am hopeful that we will get a break soon.

Glad you are making some progress...

I'd again like to thank those who prayed for my Uncle John (post #67).....sadly the situation has gotten worse.

My uncle is on complete life support and has a few scant brain waves. The feeling is if they remove the life support the brain waves could end up keeping him in a vegatative for who knows how long...

My aunt and uncle had living wills stating they did not want to be kept alive by artificial means. They were given to the hospital today. The hospital states they will adhere to the will and turn off the machines at the families request.

They also said they must abide by NY state law which requires them to give the patient "comfort" if the respirator is turned off...comfort means food and water.

Evidently in New York besides stating in a living will you do not want to be kept alive by artificial means you must also be specific and state you do not want food nor water...

This means if they turn the life support off and the hospital gives him food and water, my aunt and cousins may have to put a motion before a judge to have it removed...

The hospital is in complete CYA mode, which I can understand....sadly they just want to ship him to a hospice care to let him die, rather have him pass in their facility.

It is a horrible, horrible situation...

I've been to the hospital the past two days- you go from waiting for him to pass, to hoping he will pass to actually wanting him to pass away- that sounds horrible but this is a man who completed several NYC marathons, took me to my first NY Jets games almost 30 years ago, has traveled the world and never let any grass grow under his feet...he is now near brain dead, swollen to the point he is unrecognizable and the family has been told there is no hope.

And now they may have to go to court to fufill his final wishes due to a technicality.

I feel the worst for my aunt- she started dating my uncle when she was just 16 and he was 17. They were the first and only boyfriend/girlfriend each other had. They were married at age 22 and were to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this year (yes- he is only 62).

She has been solid as a rock- very poised- but it is inevitable she will eventually crack...

The family feels it is neglect on behalf of the hospital- I feel it is God's will but they are hurting...

What an added trauma!

God's peace and mercy be extended to each involved loved one and especially to him and his wife.

Lord, God, we release him from this life. We take the Sword of The spirit and cut from him any and all fleshly, counter productive entanglements which would hold him back from graduating into your hands more fully at this point in his life. We pronounce and confess forgiveness for him according to Your will and Scripture authorizing such. We ask that you and your Spirit enable him and his spirit to let go of this earthly plane and transfer wholly into your hands and his Heavenly rest. We ask, Lord that each relative and friend would release him to your hands fully and totally. We ask, Lord, that your Spirit would prompt each loved one to consciously release him and forgive him any even minor offenses. May any unfinished business be verbalized to his spirit quickly while he remains in this life at all--trusting that your Spirit can convey the import to his spirit. Bless Him and enable his spirit, his will, his personality to fully call on You at this time and to release himself fully to you, Father in the Blood and Salvation provided so faithfully by your Son, Jesus, The Christ, in His Name, Amen.

Lord, i speak to his spirit across the miles and bid him farewell and all the blessings you would give him as he transfers to your Heavenly realm. I ask that your Spirit be especially thickly present with his wife in comfort and direction.

I think he was in the habit of carrying it and may have been using it as a phone book. Shannon mentioned that Bill was planning on reactivating the account after he collected his next check. I am not sure that Bill knows it but all working cell phones should connect to 911 with or without an active account.

I'm no expert on cell phones so I'll just toss this out for what it might be worth. Could someone else pay to reactivate his cell phone and then call the phone and have the phone company trace the location of the phone? You might want to call the cell phone company and see what's possible.

I checked with his cell company and they will let me pay on his bill but will not tell me what he owes(weird). I am waiting to hear back from Shannon to check his room for his charger, I am guessing that without it the battery has lost its charge. It has been quite some time since he could have charged it. I tried sending it a text message in case he has been powering it up only occasionally but that feature is disabled also.

Thats an idea... I think someone mentioned asking the the cell company to send the message as this is extenuating circumstances. I will give it a try tomorrow.

I did hear from a CPD officer who told me that he is assigning a detective to the case and I should hear from him soon. I think they will be able to get access to the cell records.
