Thanks for the link; I thought the president was asked later to clarify and if he'd qualify the Minutemen as vigilantes and he said he wouldn't. But I don't remember.

Come on, did you really think I was calling for the president to put on a badge, grab a gun and go hunting illegals? If you did let me be more specific. I was calling on the president to order his justice department, not him directly to enforce American law. There, I promise to spell out every little detail from here on out.

And he (Reagan) didn't have a war to fight either.

I'd like to disagree here, we were deep into a War and he is the man with the strategery that won that War.

This morning my ten year old son asked about nuclear weapons. I told him that when I was his age we used to have thousands of nuclear missiles pointed at us. Now, we have some crazy people trying to secure a few weapons that they will have difficulty delivering to the US if we do our job. I told him our job is to make sure they don't get them and that is why we attacked Iraq, and why we need to get control in the Middle East.

Tell me one other President who faced such an immigration crisis in the past 90 years? We ran millions of immigrants through Ellis Island for a reason. Now we ignore the diseases and crimminals and allow them free services and support. The crisis hit on Bush's watch and he's failing to stem the tide nor accept the fact that this is detrimental to this nation.

it all comes down to the amnesty - that's the part of this that is so objectionable. are we going to have a blanket amnesty, administered under the cover of this specious "you've been here 2 years, right?" rule. or are we going to have some discincentives in the system to encourage those currently here, to return home.

"I think it is wise to stick to the topic at hand."

Then don't chase off topic rabbit trails just to show off your ruffled feathers.

At least the president is trying which is more than any other president has ever done in our lifetimes.

Presidente Bush has been encouraging illegals to come here like no others before with his talk of amnesty. He is also being disengenuous to Americans when he says his guest worker program is not an amnesty. We know it, the illegals know it, he fools no one except maybe you.

His efforts at enfocement are dismal. You don't have a clue. Look what happened after the Korean War, all the illegals were sent home. We did it once we can do it again , he doesn't want to. Do you actually listen to him?

Granted. The Cold War. I doubt it consumed as much of his time as the WOT consumes of Bush though. And we weren't losing military men and women and Bush spends a lot of time talking with them and visiting their families.

This president has done more to address the illegal immigration problem

You three have got to be paid GOP operatives - there's no way you could parrot such drivel that is demonstrably false on its face and not be concerned about public rebuttal:

Fact 1: there are hundreds (thousands?) of EXISTING federal laws, rules, regulations & EOs covering immigration, employment, lending, disclosure, etc.

Fact 2: as Executive, Bush controls agencies such as the Dept of Labor, DHS, ICE, IRS, SS, FDIC, SEC, etc. that are responsible for enforcing these laws, rules, regs & EOs.

Fact 3: these self-same agencies, either through direct action, or lack thereof, actively facilitate and help circumvent these laws, rules, regs & EOs to assist in the employment, lending, insurance, health, safety & services of illegal aliens.

Conclusion: Bush is not only complicit, he is actively aiding and abetting illegal aliens in violation of his Constitution duties and responsibilities to protect the republic and enforce its lawfully enacted laws.

See, nothing is ever good enough for you people. All you do is complain.

Complain? It is constructive criticism from someone who is a conservative, a veteran, a contributing member of the GOP, a volunteer who has served as a GOP poll watcher and at official functions such as the Inaugural Ball. I have earned the right to voice my opinion. I am concerned about our nation's security and its future.

He's done more than any other president, while we're at war, and it's still not good enough.

More than Reagan, FDR, Harry Truman, Lincoln, Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, and Jefferson? I am sorry you don't like the fact everyone can't be in lockstep with the President. I am a Republican and will vote a straight party ticket in 2006 and 2008 and beyond. I am a party loyalist who is very disappointed with the President's position on immigration and the control of the borders, especially during a time of war.

I also opposed his signing of McCain-Feingold.

Actually not.. I've pointed out out many times before but 2 major laws enacted by Clinton make it very hard to deport illegals, and another pretty much ties hands of enforcing employer sanctions against hiring illegals. They are posted a couple of times in this thread..

Baloney, the GOP has the house, senate and president if they wanted to change something they could. Instead we have had a President waving his hands at the illegals telling them to come do the work americans won't do beecause he was going to give them amnesty. BS.

Immigration in the 80's or 90's could have been considered a crisis, but no one was focused on it because people were fat, dumb and happy. But the same people were coming over here, committing crimes, had diseases, formed gangs, and overtaxed our social services. This didn't happen overnight.

Reagan granted amnesty instead of dealing with the issue of people coming over in the first place.
