Russian state-owned company Technopromexport has announced it will build a thermal power plant in Serbia within three years. The company Wednesday signed a contract with Serbia and Switzerland's Mentor Energy, company officials said. The construction of the plant, with two 450-megawatt blocks, is estimated to cost $877 million. Maja Gojkovich, mayor of the Serbian town Novi Sad, where the plant will be built, said the project will greatly benefit the economy of the town and the country, the RIA Novosti news agency reported. "It will provide work for 5,000 to 6,000 Serbs and guarantee orders for a number of Serbian businesses," she said. Technopromexport, a leading electricity exporter and builder of energy facilities, has a number of projects in foreign countries, including India, where it is participating in the construction of a thermal power plant and the upgrading of the Obra power plant. The company also plans to win a $500 million tender for the construction of a 1,900-megawatt power plant in India's North Karanpura.

Just don't expect anybody with half a clue to take you seriously.
Serbia is being prevented from properly developing its economy. Don't tell me that Slovenia with no conceivable profitable resources can have a GDP of $20,000 whilst Serbia, abundant in all kinds of natural resources and industry, with an educated, English-speaking population very much in touch with the world they live in, has a GDP 5-7 times smaller than Slovenia's. BS!
I don't put much stock into the official rankings anyway, because it is obvious that Bosnia -- with no economy to speak of -- can't have a greater GDP than Serbia. Yet, miraculously it does.

Or perhaps you were talking about Kosovo Albanians? Yes, I understand the sale of narcotics, semtex and the sex slave trade can be quite lucrative -- at least for now. But when the Euros go home, offering up your little brother for sex won't be quite so lucrative and your people may actually have to work for a living!
I suspect that you are not aware of it but you are the best spokesman for Serbia on FR. Fusion was even better but he is gone :(

The only thing preventing Serbia from developing its economy is the Serbs - by choosing to cling to a discredited socialist/nationalist legacy, they're getting exactly what they're asking for: poverty and international isolation. Slovenia has used the 15 years since independence to get their economy together, and the results are inescapable to the objective observer.
Slovenia, btw, has an economy "only" ~1/3rd larger than Serbia's, due to there being 5 times as many folks in Serbia.
But hey, it's all BS because it's inconvenient, right?
Being an American of English descent, I've got that puritan work ethic ingrained, so it's not an issue.
But as far as Albania, considering where they were coming from, they'd have been hard pressed to worsen their economic condition. Fortunately for them, they've had leaders who haven't exacerbated their problems, unlike Serbia.
At some point in the future, I expect Serbia will regain its historical economic position in regards to its neighbors, but that isn't going to happen until it turns its back on the kind of simpleton thinking exhibited by you and those like you here on FR.
Quite frankly, I feel embarrassed for your ignorance, and saddened by Serbia's continuing plight - they're both tragedies in their own way.

I may have been mistaken about your ethnicity, for which you have my apologies. However, based on your advocacy of all things pro-Muslim, pro-Albanian in the Balkans and your obvious dislike of Serbs, it was an easy mistake to make.
No need for pitying me, Hoplite. I am an American Montenegrin Serb, for several generations.The last of my family arrived in the US over 80 years ago and my father was in the US Army during WWII. I have an MA, and am, financially, pretty much living the American Dream" my ancestors hoped for when they came to the US.
Has it ever occurred to you that the people who live over there, plus the people who live here (or in Europe) and have studied Balkan politics & history for many years before these wars started, may know more about it than you? Most Americans couldn't have located what "continent" Bosnia was on before 1992 -- but suddenly, they are "CNN experts"! Or they marry into it and think that they know it all. Give me a break!
I know who my people are, what their strengths and weaknesses are as a culture. They aren't perfect, they aren't all "saints", but they aren't "demons", either. And continual "humilation" doesn't tend to bring out the best in them -- or in anyone else, for that matter.
But when "the scimitar" is knocking at your door in smalltown USA saying, "Convert or die" -- trust me, you'll want a Serb on your side to protect you if you haven't killed or ethnically cleansed them all out of existence by then!

And Slovenia had the best economy of all, even when it was part of Yugoslavia. If I were them, I'd have wanted to take a walk, too.
But I can recall Slovenia in the 1970's, when an American half-Slovene, half-Serb friend of mine said to me, "Why is it that in Slovenia, they can put up a McDonald's and Tito calls it communism. But in Serbia, they can't even have a farm collective without Tito saying that it isn't communist enough! What is that madman doing?"
Tito was "mad" like a fox.
The Slovenes and Croats, individually, were never any real threat to Tito's power -- he was half-Slovene and half-Croat himself. The Bosnian Muslims and Albanians were never any real threat to his power, either. As a matter of fact, "Tito's Muslims" were an excellent "trading card" for doing business in the ME.
Right after WWII, Tito also fancied himself becoming the "Stalin of the Balkans", and this is why he broke with the real Stalin. It is also why Tito imported Albanians into Kosovo and wouldn't let Serbs return (so he could take over Albania with his homegrown variety). Tito backed the communist side of the Greek civil war, hoping to add Greece to his realm. But this plan never worked out for him and he had to settle for Yugoslavia, alone.
But the only ethnic group who was any real continuing threat to Tito was the Serbs, because they were the single largest ethnic group in Yugoslavia, they had a history of democracy, and they had a huge active diaspora expelled after WWII for fighting against communism.
So Tito kept "his enemies" (the Serbs) closer than his friends. Tito made Serbs into "real Yugoslavs", involving them at every level of the government, overlapping their territories (the Krajina and Dalmatia have only been part of Croatia since post WWII)with the Croats, dividing off Kosovo -- in short, making sure that Serbs were so invested in communist Yugoslavia that they dare not rebel or lose everything dear to them.
American Serbs had been telling Yugoslav Serbs for years that they were being set up to fail because they were the only ones so invested in Yugoslavia, but they wouldn't listen.
And likewise, neither would America listen to anything but "pro-Tito Yugoslavia". The US State Department was more pro-Tito than any Yugoslavs were. Twice initiatives were passed by the US Congress to honor Tito's WWII rival here in the US for saving the lives of over 500 American flyers during WWII, and twice those initiatives were shot down by the US State Department because "it might offend Tito". US Serbs couldn't even get the second in command of WWII Nazi Croatia, Andrija Artukovic, deported. The SOB was living openly in San Pedro, CA for over thirty years and was responsible for the deaths of several hundred thousand Serbs, Jews and Gypsies. Finally, the Jews went after him and got the job done after Tito died, because -- even as Americans -- we couldn't do a damn thing about it.
So the failure of Yugoslavia, post-Tito, was expected. The bloody wars over Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo, predictable. The Serbs as "the bad guys", likewise predictable.
Sad, but it's been like watching a car accident from a distance in slow motion. Nothing you can do while it happening except help the wounded once it is over.

The entire Clinton Adminstration is a collection of losers. 67% of his administration couldn't get a security clearance due to background checks due to their behaviors and criminal records, arrests, finanical misdealings etc...fact actually....
Clinton was the biggest loser of all and in fact fabricated most of the reasons to go into the Balkans, after Milosevic became a serbian nationalist in the late 80's and turned his back on the CIA...true story.
They we introduced the Muh. into Bosnia, fabricated the massacres, provoked the Serbs into Bosnia and yes they came on a bit heavy handed, agreed, but nowhere near what the lying media reported. Fact hoppie.....

Just kidding, of course - America's core values and those of Serbia aren't compatible so long as Serbia is a nation or group which identifies itself by who one's parents are, and that doesn't look to change anytime in the near future, does it?
Further, I'm really not interested in hearing the Serb story of oppression under Tito yet again - each of Yugoslavia's ethnicities has a beef with Tito's methods and legacy. As of now, Serbia is responsible for its present condition, not Tito or any of his contemporaries.
