Once Upon a Time in The West (DVD)
Me! | 1969 | Sergio Leone

Posted on 04/03/2006 7:23:45 PM PDT by Number57

I found a copy of Sergio Leone's "Once Upon A Time In The West" for $9.99 at Family Fare. Widescreen & special features. W00t.

BUT.

My glee was made sad when I saw the SECONDARY STICKER (in other words... a sticker placed upon the shrink-wrap): "DISC MADE IN MEXICO"

haha. ah hah

What's wrong with made in Mexico? You can thank an Italian who ripped off a Japanese to create films backed by Italian financiers for those spaghetti westerns.

I'm talking about a movie made 30 years ago... I bet it's being reproduced in Mexico with no real cost and shipped across the border. YAY NAFTA!!!

$.75 cents American = $10.00 cost to me

Spaghetti westerns, where the red blood is the color of spaghetti sauce and the women's hair and makeup straight from 1960s Europe.

Why not buy it?

Why don't you defend America? Just asking :)

I don't see the problem.

When I asked what the difference was between a higher priced "American" Fender Stratocaster and a "Mexican" Fender Strat, the answer was that one was made in Los Angeles by Mexicans and the other was made in Mexico by Mexicans. I figured I'd rather have Mexicans working in Mexico so that's what I bought - for a couple hundred less.

Fine by me...don't buy G.M. I won't again either. You're very certain that I won't "defend" America because I've merely suggested that you simply not buy the silly thing.

I'm having a hard time believing that you got your shorts in a knot over a DVD made in Mexico. When was the last time you tried to buy something that wasn't foreign made from L.L. Bean? It's everywhere friend. Not just on DVD labels.

I did "defend America". For 13 years...two overseas long tours plus one extension mixed in there...one CONUS long tour...finished up with a CONUS short tour...from before we bombed Libya to after Desert Storm I. I've even got TWO DD-Form 214s. :-)

Don't assume that because some of us aren't willing to blow off steam and share indignance with you that we're not willing to "defend" something.

I have to agree with most of the others on this thread. I just don't see what the problem is.

Like I said...don't buy the thing.

People. This is a great movie. It's about three hours long and has amazing cinematography. It opens with a super slow motion take that includes an amazing picture of a fly landing repeatedly on a mans face. Like most of the spagetti westerns it has gritty costumes and awesome scenary. The story in this one is really good too.

Highly recommended.

Yeah, I got the same. They were only $7.50 at Target about
6 months ago. You know it only costs < 1.00 to make a disc,
so the cost cannot be that much...
If you want to beat the foreign companies you gotta do it
yourself! <Union dues, taxes, OSHA requirements, Social
Security is killing american basic business...

Those Mexicans didn't get a dime out of me.

I shoplifted my copy of "Once Upon a Time in The West".

Sure showed them, huh? :-)

I'm kdding. I bought my copy from a local supermarket. They were having a sale of two DVDs for 10 bucks. So, I got my copy for 5 bucks.

I just dont understand the movie.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a far superior spghetti western.

Black Jack - Maybe I'll check this movie out. We DO like westerns. I'd never heard of it until now. We watch movies now and then on weekends. :-)

Number57 - Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate it. :-)
