What Would It Cost to Deport Illegal Aliens?
Human Events Online ^ | Posted Aug 01, 2005 | staff

Imagine that you came home tomorrow and found a stranger living in your home. Would you pay $148 to have him removed, or would you instead just legally adopt him and give him the run of the place to save the $148? The Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank in Washington, D.C., thinks the “practical” thing to do would be adopt the “undocumented family member” that broke into your home.

At least, that is what I can extrapolate from the report they released last week purporting to document the true cost of deporting –rather than amnestying-- the 10 million illegal aliens that have smuggled themselves into our homeland over the past two decades. According to the study, which was dutifully reported by the Washington Post and others, it would cost the Federal Government $41 billion per year over the next five years to take the “draconian” step of actually enforcing our immigration laws.

Let’s pretend, for just a moment, that the ghost of the bloody Greek King Dracon is not laughing hysterically at the idea that being deported home in an air-conditioned bus is now considered “draconian.” And while we’re in fantasyland, let us also pretend that the $41 billion per year figure is even remotely accurate. The Federal Government has an annual budget of $2.34 trillion per year. Our Gross Domestic Product is a staggering $12 trillion per year. $41 billion would be just 1.7% of the Federal budget, and a miniscule 0.34% of our GDP.

Just think of the improved quality of life and the availability of space in our schools and prisons; jobs there for the poorest Americans and an end to the pressures on our public health care system and social services. What's not to like. I submit the cost of deporting illegal aliens, if we got serious about doing it, would be far cheaper than keeping this country open as the world's HMO/welfare department.

The question shouldn;t be

What Would It Cost to Deport Illegal Aliens?

The question should be

What is the Cost if we Don't Deport Illegal Aliens?

If the total cost were $100 billion dollars, we'd recoup the fees in less than five years, perhaps as little as eighteen months to two years.

Deport. We kicked our farmers off their farms. Illegals are no better than the U.S. farmer.

It would cost nothing, They would self deport if the government/USPS/Banks were not in the money transfer business.
If they could not bank here they could not live here.
The IRS could find them all if the powers that be wanted to. Lord help you if you were a US Citizen who didnt pay taxes.

They'd deport themselves if they couldn't find work. .....and they couldn't find work if we had the guts to heavily fine employers who hire them and cut off their welfare/freebies.

If they fine employers enough, nothing!

Eliminate welfare, hit the employers of illegals hard and there won't be enough jobs for the lower end of the work force.

Exactly. If things were made tougher for them we wouldn't need to deport them. They would leave on their own.

I am watching Nat. Geo the History origins of MS-13.

Boy what a mess as they deported these gang members back to their respective countries they multiplies like ants. The grotesque acts of violence down in S. America intensifies.

Any hoo it is a good eye opener for those of us whom don't have gangs in our living areas.

Very informative.

These dirty rats in the states have literally taken over neighborhoods down to the local hot dog vender having to pay for protection to sell and the gang taxes the drug dealers to sell in their neighborhood.

So it is like micro dictatorships withen our borders is best how I can describe it. Much like the Italian Mafia and those who have to pay to do business in there areas.

Horrible stuff for those that live in non gang low crime areas that do not have to deal with what some other Americans have to cope with.

I highly suggest others to watch MS 13 on National Geo to get a perspective of the lawlessness ect.

Anyone watch the Big Story Weekend with Jam min Jamie Colby.

This was really slanted for an amnesty program.

She also had on that CNN reject Bill Press as a pro for amnesty.

Made me sick to watch the program and listen to her airhead questions.

All slanted to make the illegals look good.

The Hispanic Challenge (To America) A MUST READ Samuel Huntington (Long But Good)

The Mexicans are unlike previous immigrants. This definitely needs to be read by everyone at least once! It should be linked on pertinent immigration threads. Here's an interesting link about Samuel Huntington:

"Strangely enough, despite the fact that he was buddies with Henry Kissinger at Harvard, he is registered as a member of the Democratic Party, and has written foreign policy speeches for Adlai Stevenson, Hubert Humphrey, and Jimmy Carter."

Our leaders talk of allowing all illegal aliens to stay. As if that weren't bad enough, they want guest-worker permits on top of that. Yep, you guessed it, according to them we don't have enough Mexican citizens living in the United States already.

10, 20, 30 million, whatever the actual figure is for illegal aliens in our nation today, it's not enough. Millions more must be allowed to enter.

Listen to Bush. Paraphrased: "If we had better laws regulating those who want to come here and hold down jobs U.S. Citizens won't do, there would be no illegal immigration."

Think about this. Best estimates reveal that between three and five million illegal immigrants come across our border every year now. In order to alleviate this, we would have to allow work permits to between three and five million people per year. In five years, we'd let in another fifteen to twenty-five million.

Now think about this. If it were as easy as filling out a form to come here, would between three and five million be the max? No, if folks would venture to cross the desert under extreme peril, they're mightily driven to come. If the method were easier, the actual numbers would be more like seven to ten million per year. In ten years that would amount to 70 to 100 million. No, Mexico would NOT be the only nation. We would be swamped!

Now, can anyone else see how our nation could almost overnight become 60% Mexican or at the very least 60 to 70% Central and South American?

Then you have to count the immediate family members that would be allowed to come over once their ankor 'guest-worker' was established.

Our leaders are talking glibly about the complete swamping of our nation in ten to twenty years. We could see as much as 100 to 200 million more people in our nation.

Who in their right mind would sign on to this. Whatever happened to calls for reasonable growth in order to save this planet? Boy has their tune changed.

All this doesn't even take into consideration the inevitable children that would be born to these tens to hundreds of million people.

>>>>This was really slanted for an amnesty program.

Fox News has been talking up guest worker-amnesty since last week. First, Fred Barnes shows how unconservative he really is. Next, Bill Kristol said today, he's for liberal immigration policy. Even Brit Hume was caught rationalizing how a guest worker program is not amnesty. And of course old Mort Kondracke is pushing for liberal amnesty at any cost. I'd say FoxNews is defintiely siding with Bush on this issue, BIGTIME!

Given the cost to taxpayers to support illegal aliens, it would be money in the bank to deport them. Everyone one kicked out of the country represents an ongoing savings of taxpayer funded service expenses. I suspect it would represent a cash flow positive process. The program to deport them would pay for itself and still leave a net expense savings.
