Yes, but they must apply to be part of the program from their home countries. Also, the guestworker program has no path to citizenship, unlike the other bills. It also requires them to leave after a set period of time, and significantly increases enforcement both on the border and the interior.

Diane Feinstein is going senile... she speaks so slowly AND FROM A SCRIPT!

This is a blather fest. All these Senators are multi-millionaires and are going to sell us out. Our only hope is the House. Di Fi's husband is worth at least 100 million from doing business in China

Leaky doesn't like Diane's amendment on the tunnels

Says that a property owner could face jail time for having a tunnel in their property

I hope there's not a clerical error between bills or they'll impeach Bush.

Whatever comes out of THIS committee will have to be voted on by the whole Senate, after substantial (I am sure), debate...

Then, whatever bill the Senate DOES vote for will be sent to the House, where two groups of conferees will try to reconcile the two bills, whice are likely to be VERY DIFFERENT...

THAT is going to be the meeting I want to see---because that is where the real fireworks is going to occur, IMHO>

Illegals issue is beginning to affect investors, too. That will get the Pubbies attention.

Investors Believe Illegal Immigration Is Hurting the U.S. Economic Climate

UBS/Gallup Index of Investor Optimism poll for March showing that 80% of U.S. investors think the federal government should do more to prevent illegal immigration. Only 10% believe the government is doing enough while 7% believe the government should do less to prevent illegal immigration.

These Senators are wasting time. They want to look like they CARE. Under the border tunnels are terrible but not a major factor

I go along with GWB on
"GET IN LINE" if you want
to apply for citizenship.
Further...I would add
NO handouts from the public
doles UNTIL you are a citizen!

I need to read the wording in Diane's amendment

Leaky might have a point about property owners being charged with a crime

Or .. they could be playing good cop/bad cop

The problem with these Senators is that they can't be trusted

I agree. It is another diversion tactic that will resolve nothing and the illegals will continue to cross and build their presence until in my opinion there is an attempt by the people to launch a Civil War. Our government will never allow a Civil War to happen. You will see our military (tanks and all) and the police take to the streets to prevent that.

I just heard on Fox news that Bush probably favors Kyl and Cornyn's proposal of making them go home first then apply.

Uhhhh.....is this is all about landowners who "knew" or "should have known" about tunnels....this is a slippery slope; there are landowners who "know" that illegals are crossing on their land, but their hands are tied to do anything about it....now they're talking about "forfeiture of proerty to the government"????

If it ever descends to a civil war, then the battle is indeed lost. I think it already has been. When you see the crowds mobilized in LA, Phoenix, Denver, etc., you realize the extent and size of the numbers involved. A guest worker program is really an admission that we cannot control our borders. There is a lack of political will by our representatives to make the hard decisions. Now it is too little, too late. Now we need to control the numbers so they can be assimilated more easily.

Amnistia

To give them 'full rights' is little difference than giving all Mexicans or Chileans or Nigerians or Chinese, etc., full rights. So what if they aren't actually in the USA yet. Don't they have just as much right to get 'full rights'?

[That is the extreme of where the 'full rights for illegals' ends up. It becomes a nightmare for the American citizenry, and a blessing for the UN. It destroys the sovereignty of this Nation.]
