JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A state senator wants to force Missouri stores to sell warm beer. Under a bill by Sen. Bill Alter, grocery and convenience stores would risk losing their liquor licenses if they sold beer colder than 60 degrees. The intent is to cut down on drunken driving by making it less tempting to pop open a beer after leaving the store.
"The only reason why beer would need to be cold is so that it can be consumed right away," Alter, who has been a police offer for more than 20 years, said Thursday.
I'm coming into this thread late. Why was this a ZOT? What's been edited that I missed?
As long as Halibeerton runs this war, there can BE no exit strategy. Send in more Cornnuts and start a tab. Just be aware of brewicide bongers. Bas*ards want our heads.
Serious drunks don't even know that the beer is warm or cold.
There are forces of nature that Man was never meant to tamper with. Beer is one of those.

We were all IB4TZ.
Good Morning Moderators. Nice to see you all awake this morning!
Don't you mean noon?
Not ME!!!!
I'm fighting the good fight right by your side, babe!
Guinness cold is not nearly as good as Guinness approaching room temperature, and I'm a bloody Yank.
You were right. I didn't see anything wrong with the post.
I never drink beer on the golf course. Whiskey is a lot easier to pack in my bag, and that way I have enough for everyone.
When I go golfing with the guys from work, it is our custom that the first shot of the day involves neither a club nor a ball.
I believe that all the drinking laws actually contribute to drunken driving. This is because these laws create a climate where one wants to "drink as much as possible when one can". Thus we have underage teens drinking unsupervised in places that they usually have to drive out to. Or adults on their way to a place where drinks are either limited or not allowed will tend to drink heavily before going to these places.
Bathroom is behind the corner, and the door is marked.
That's the beer's exit strategy...
I am totally with you on the drinking and driving and if this law would prevent it maybe I could see it passing, but this is not going to prevent people who would normally drink and drive from stopping.
A purity law won't keep breweries from selling watery crap (e.g., Coors Light). But it'll at least keep breweries from selling something that's half beer and half saki (e.g., Budwesier).
Very true. My sis in law noted her boyfriend had a drinking problem when all of her cooking wine was mysteriously missing.
Your hands will probably be at least 60 degrees warm.
Yes your are correct. Keep that quiet, they might try to outlaw Guinness.
Where have you been?!
What the heck are you doing in a lounge? Virtually all casinos will let you smoke a stick at the gaming tables. Better casinos will comp you a cigar and a Courvoisier.
Leisey's lost out to the "Beasts" some time ago. Glad Leineys has survived the megabeer barons.
Always felt Bud, Miller, etc., really did us a disservice when all the local breweries closed.
The only beer worst than these was Van Merritt. ;^)
We'd all be in trouble if those drunks figured out that about 10 seconds with the fire extinguisher will knock a 12 pack down close to freezing. It's expensive (if the extinguishers are yours), but it's fast.
I agree that this dumb law will not stop them.
So.. he's like a bribe, right?
Yes, I've heard that before. I guess if I had some good pub beer from the UK, it would probably be good. I couldn't imagine trying to get a warm Budweiser down though. I'd have to hold my nose.
I don't know why he was zotted. I heard this story on the radio coming in this morning and groaned.
And some beer is pretty nasty if you let it get that warm.
Currently enjoying Michelob Amber Bock. The colder the better.
"Serious drunks don't even know that the beer is warm or cold."
And they probably don't care either.
Here most people will drink and drive because you are just as likely to get a public intox ticket if you decide to walk home. Most people figure you might as well limit your exposure and just drive home from the bar instead of walking. Either way you could land in the drunk tank.
Anyway, all this fuss about cold beer when I think the real problem is those "nips" that all the liquor stores sell at the checkout counter. These are the little bottles that you normally get on airplanes. I can't imagine people buy these to take home to their liquor cabinet. Obviously these are bought for the ride home.
Retread? Did the Mod spot a zotted IP address?
LOL!!!! Budsake, so that the trick?
Germans and Brits like their beer warm.
Yes, got it right to 37 degrees F
I like Michelob Amber Bock on tap. Pretty good stuff.
The sarcastic pairing of "my Baby Jesus" with beer in comment #1, and I'm pretty sure this is a regular.
If Jovial Cad is a mod and spotted the IP address, that would make sense.
I don't see a reason why folks would zot a guy just because he signed up today and posted a non-partisan story.
An even bigger problem here in Ohio is the Drive-Thu Liquor Stores!
I avoid them just to avoid getting rear-ended (no Brokeback Mountian reference intended).
Ah..cool. Sorry for asking - just seen quite a few premature 'IB4Z's in the past week or so.
Thanks!
I thought this thread was about drinking beer, not Budweiser.
I think it is a true art, as his Bud Light is exceptionally good...it truly enhances the war story atmosphere...
you know why the Brits drink warm beer??? because they have LUCAS refrigerators!!! 8^)
I haven't a clue as to why it happened.
Interesting point. And I mostly agree with you. Laws generally do not take into consideration all the cultural, psychological, cultural factors that determine behavior patterns resulting from alcohol consumption.
What our society needs to get to is a way to allow people to drink without the resulting/accompanying mayhem. And certainly prohibiting the selling of "cold ones" does nothing to solve the problem.
They also asked us to turn our AC down. They all hated air conditioning. They also didn't believe in daily showers, underarm deoderant and not wearing the same clothes more than three days in a row.
Weird how different cultures can be.
I heard guys like you drink straight from the crotch-faucet.
"Actually beer is intended to be drank warm."
Ales yes, lagers no. Never did really like lagers anyway.
