Pelosi Salutes Senate Democrats on ANWR Vote; Vows to Force House Budget Vote in Light of Day
US Newswire ^ | 12/21/05 | Press Release

Posted on 12/21/2005 12:51:38 PM PST by ncountylee

WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the failure of Senate Republicans to invoke cloture on the Department of Defense spending bill because of a special interest provision that opened Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. Also today, the Senate passed its immoral budget by a narrow margin of 51 to 50, with Vice President Dick Cheney breaking the tie. Because Democrats forced several changes to the budget bill, it now must come back to the House to be voted on again. Pelosi will not allow approval by unanimous consent and will request a recorded vote.

"I am pleased to see that our Senate colleagues secured a crucial victory and joined the vast majority of House Democrats to vote for preserving our pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In a bill that should be about supporting our troops, Republicans have attempted to defile one of our nation's most beautiful areas. Instead of wrapping up a present for big oil companies, Democrats have helped to ensure that generations to come will enjoy the gift that is our nation's wild lands and creatures.

"I also want to commend my Democratic colleagues in the Senate for delaying the final passage of the immoral budget spending bill. Just four days before Christmas, this Republican Congress wanted to go home for the holidays, leaving a lump of coal in the stockings of American families. That is contrary to the spirit of this holiday season and contrary to the values of this nation.

"Even though this budget passed the Senate by a one-vote margin, because Democrats secured key changes to this legislation, it must now return to the House to be re-examined in the light of day. As it stands now, it hurts the neediest in our country, while providing huge giveaways to managed care and drug companies and the oil industries.

"Democrats believe this Republican bill has the wrong priorities. That is why we will request a recorded vote where all Members return to Washington to make clear their values to the America people. Democrats will work with our allies to fight for a budget that represents the values and needs of all Americans."

WOO HOO Ms. Pelosi! Way to keep those gas prices high!

Too bad it's going to totally screw the poor though. But that's okay, you'll still get millions in Hollywood money every year...

NO the liberals are not in charge.

I want ANWR to pass but ANWR is not the end and not the beginning. This ANWR thing has come for vote many times and we could not pass it, and every time we cannot pass it many on this forum go into an utter defeatism mode and start complaining about how we cannot do anything and how the Republican are spineless. For the last five years ANWR has been a meaningless psychological war fought between the delusional people on the left and knee jerk reactionary people on the right. Every time it comes to a vote and fails, the delusional left will claim victory because they have very few things to celebrate, and many on our side will get a knee jerk reaction and start bashing the Republican Party.

The majority of Republican Senators are good but we have 5 or 6 RINOS and they can cause trouble from time to time. However this does not mean that we are not controlling the Congress. We just passed few hours ago a spending cut bill and the Democrats were really f***ed on this one. The democrats can block some bill due to the power of filibuster but these are only few. The majority will pass. Now what worries me more much than ANWR is the filibuster of the Patriot Acts. This must pass, and the democrats are going to pay a very heavy price if they keep blocking it in next year elections.

Frankly after watching this communist witch operate here in California, I don't think she ever really reached the level of intelligence where one could come down enough to say "they snapped". The absolute crap that comes out of this moron's mouth is amazing. Such a liberal dupe.

Only the Progressive Causcus (communists) in our very own Congress like her...

Notice to Republicans in Congress:

The Democrats are not your opponents, they are the enemy of the American People.

Please start treating them as such.

Dear Senator Chaffee,
It is always wonderful when a politician makes a defining vote. Your vote regarding cloture of the Defense Budget today is a perfect example. We know where your allegiance lies. Although I am not a constituent, I take solace in knowing that I am able to campaign and vote against my two democrat senators here in Wisconsin. In addition contributing to your primary opponent will bring a sense of pleasure.

the Senate passed its immoral budget by a narrow margin of 51 to 50,

Pelosi, whose district is SF, a city where aids got it's biggest jump in growth, where the bath houses would open in a NY minute so men can engage in lewd, promiscuous behavior with any swinging dick that goes bi, is certainly the one to lecture others on morality.

Another thing. Being the useful idiot for the communist she really is, she no doubt ever thinks (yea I know that is beyond her capacity), about how the Russians for instance are using every oil/gas resource at their disposal to recover their self esteem, and start sinking huge investments into military projects once obtained. It never dawns on her that an America that is strapped by the need to use foreign oil cannot continue to be a super power. These people are so dangerouse it is beyond the pale of reasoning how no one will call them on these things in public discourse. It is so PC to not discuse the underlining dangers of not having a self sufficient national energy program. Both political parties are of equal blame for the most part.
