Probably part of the hype for the current movie but interesting speculation. I can't wait for the next book although it will be sad to see the series end, one way or the other.
BTW, any HP fans out there should definitely check out the audio versions of the books. Jim Dale is simply astonishingly good.

Wish they would do the same for the Sopranos.

I seriously doubt that she would kill him off. Who would want to make a film of that book?

Okay, I'll spill the beans. In the next and final book in the series, 'Harry Potter and the Brown Skid Marks of Shame', the young wizard manages to finally destroy Voldemort, lose his virginity, and graduate Hogwarts but unfortuantly all three happen simultaneously at an intervention for Hagrid's growing malt liquor problem.

It is a great series of books, although at the end of the last one I was so mad that I threw the book across the room and cursed the name J.K. Rowling.

JKR would probably be mobbed by HP fans if she killed him off in the last book.
At best she'll make him disappear, borrowing from King Arthur's myth - to send him off into the mists, to return when next evil should rise again.
(Or worse yet, she'll send him back in time to grow up to become Dumbledore.)

My wife and I have read all to books to date. We speculate that the last horcrux is the scar on Harry's forehead. The last book indicated that all the horcrux's (whats the plural of horcrux?) will have to be found and destroyed in order to eliminate Voldamort.

Fortunately, the most consistent aspect of the speculation that has swirled around about each book is that it is uniformly wrong. I have completely lost count of all the wild and incorrect rumors that have been through the mill.

Well, she did kill off Dumbledore in the penultimate book which for modern readers was probably about as shocking as what Charles Dickens did to sad little Dora.
My bet though is that she'll kill off "he who must not be named". If there's another major plot twist it will probably involve Snape. If I were her (or her publisher) I'd want to keep Harry around in case her and their millions of pounds in the bank run short someday.

Harry Potter may die in the next book in the series because author JK Rowling wants to kill him offFor me, that'll be right up there with Leonardo DiCaprio's slow agonizing death in Titanic ...

Jim Dale is simply astonishingly good.
I agree. i could listen to the tapes over and over and not tire of them.
To: jalisco555
I think Mr. Dale (a WONDERFUL reader by the way) is forgetting that these are Children's books. It is very rare that a Children's Author kills off the main character (it can happen, yes, but it is rare).
Also, she said from the beginning that there would only be seven books, she doesn't need to kill him to end the series, so why? Why make the fans angry? A good novelist always has an answer to 'why?'.
Besides, it is going to turn out that Dumbledore's Ghost is going to help Harry through the last year (shades of Obi-Wan and Luke), Snape is going to kill off Voldemort but be killed in the process, Harry will run off with Jenny, and all will be happy but 'scarred' for life.

So she kills the one thing that made her a billionaire. Twenty years from now, she'll be sitting on a stool in a pub begging, "Ya got a schilling?"
Rather than killing him off, she should just leave it as is.
Despite the great attempt to reproduce Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson, I still get a little upset that when I read the books, I know the end is coming.
Somehow I imagine if she does kill him off that she will be driving on a lonely road when her car goes into a ditch and she is rescued by a fan who nutures her back to health while reading the last HP book. Violence ensues.
