How come there is not more talk about how this office of the special investigator seems to be riddle with leaks? It does not appear that anyone in this office can keep the preceedings in the office as required by law.

When Clinton was under investigation and leaks were in the press the issue was not what was said but the poor and corrupt office that was allowing the leaks...

I hate to say it but they are right. If Rove or anyone lied to the grand jury, they should be held accountable. Anyone with an ounce of intellectual honesty will admit that.

I watched Kay Bailey Hutchison on MTP, and I didn't think she was saying committing perjury was a "technicality". I took her statement to mean that someone shouldn't be indicted for perjury if they innocently misspoke or contradicted themselves.

People can see someone forgetting if they met with someone on June 23 and/or July 7th. They can't see Clinton forgetting he received sexual favors from Monica Lewinsky, not once, but on several occasions. It's about intent and that's what she meant about "technicality".

The NYT is reporting that Libby heard about Plame from Cheney. If Cheney did not know that Plame was covert, then there is no crime. There may be no evidence that he knew of her status. That's why they are going after the perjury charge I think we just have to see how high up this damn thing's going to go. Wait it out.

When the Dammocraps reintroduce articles of impeachment of William Jefferson Clinton to the House of Representatives, and take the lead in convicting Mr. Clinton in the Senate, then this argument will have cogency.

Until that time, the Dammocraps should STFU.

What a mess. With all the selective leaking and speculating taking palce- it's pretty hard to have an informed opinion at this point. IF Rove and/or Libby deliberately lied to the grand jury- they must be held accountable. But we don't know that yet. The only thing I know for sure is Joe Wilson is a slimy SOB.

After all the crap the Democrats in the MSM have poured out in the last few weeks, they have absolutely no business telling Republicans what they can and can't say.

What angers me most is that neither Rove nor Libby nor anyone else under investigation is the real target for the Dem witch hunters; their real target of course is President Bush.

If a single indictment is forthcoming against anyone, that will be the signal to try and hang this ridiculous albatross around Bush's neck.

It's such a shame since the entire premise of the 'crime' is utter BS. Valerie the spy is utter BS, Wilson the weapons inspector is utter BS.

Let me see if my logic holds...
The CIA, who hates Bush and Porter Goss and being a subordinate agency sends a request to the DOJ to investigate a possible leak of an agent's identity. The agent in question happens to have a former ambassador for a husband who made a trip Africa to ascertain if Iraq tried to buy uranium ore. Furthermore, is has never been ascertained if agent is truly an agent or a file clerk or analyst. The husband of the agent doesn't file a written report and his recollections are transcribed by a CIA file clerk. Then the husband trumpets multiple versions of his trip to various media outlets. Meanwhile a Senate select subcommittee publishes their report and in the subcommittee's report is two or three paragraphs dismissing the husband's report, which for all intents and purposes brands him a liar. And during this time frame, the CIA employee is outed by Robert Novak and subsequently poses for a Vanity Fair article. Special prosecutor is appointed and properly assembles a staff and starts asking questions of reporters, editors and gov't officials. Some heavyweight names are named, a reporter does jail time to protect a source that asked for no protection and even signed a document to that fact. Which leads us to a newspaper trashing itself in public, a president who states that he will fire anyone convicted of a crime and several Presidential aides who as part of their jobs must deal with the press, get along with the press and are not trashing anyone or leaking , umm, even harder. So it known that the Special Prosecutor's' s office is sworn to secrecy, but the witnesses called to the grand jury are not. We know that the list of witnesses called to the grand jury is not a secret.
So where is the press profile of all the witnesses?
The two laws most mentioned by legal scholars do not apply in this particular case. The CIA has not confirmed if Judy Plame is or ever has been covert. Joe Wilson is a liar and therefore tainted in everything he says about his mission to Africa and about the supposed outing of his wife. The VP, his aide and Karl Rove are under suspicion about leaking to the press and the deadline for filing criminal charges is this Friday.
My conclusion is that there will be no charges and that Porter Goss and Mike Chertoff have more housecleaning to do at the CIA. The media will do the fake but accurate spin on the VP, Karl Rove and "Scooter". And we taxpayers will take it in the ass because these investigations are never cheap.

The New York Times report said there's no indication that either Cheney or Libby knew about Plame's undercover status or that her identity was classified.

End of story

As a condition precedent to even convening a Grand Jury in this matter the prosecutor should have asked two questions: 1) Is Valerie Plame a member of the class of persons protected by the statute? and 2) Is her employment status known to persons outside the intelligence community?
An answer of "no" to either question and Mr. Fitzgerald should have folded his tent and saved the taxpayers millions of dollars. Anything after that is all "gotcha" stuff.
