Bork calls Miers nomination a disaster
MSNBC ^ | October 7, 2005 | Tucker Carlson

Posted on 10/08/2005 6:01:01 PM PDT by arnoldpalmerfan

A conservative uproar erupted over President George Bush's recent appointee to the Supreme Court. Bush nominated Harriet Miers to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. But several key Republican senators say she not the best candidate.

MSNBC-TV's Tucker Carlson talks to former judge and Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork about the Harriet Miers' nomination. He says it's, "a disaster on every level" because she has "no experience with constitutional law whatever". The nomination is a "slap in the face" to conservatives.

TUCKER CARLSON, MSNBC HOST: Are you impressed by the president’s choice of Harriet Miers?

Judge Bork knows what he is talking about. Ms. Miers' nomination needs to go down.

Bork's confirmation would've been a disaster:

Robert Bork is right on target with his comments about Harriet Miers.

Robert Bork has been an angry old grump for a number of years. There's not much dignity or gravitas in him just plenty of ego.

Robert Bork reads the second amendment and sees no indivdual RTKABA. Harriet Miers reads the same text and sees an individual RTKABA.

Given a choice between the two I choose Miers and I do it without hesitation no matter what they think on any other issue. The RTKABA is the right that guarantees all other rights, period.

Amen, Judge Bork.

Now, watch for the stampede of the Bushbots, screaming how DARE you criticise W, for rewarding a loyal buddy with a SCOTUS seat!

because she has "no experience with constitutional law whatever".

But at the level of the supreme court, this seldom matters. Who's going to over rule her?

I cant say the "expierence" of all the other judges has done us any good over the years.

The first few times I read this article at this forum were plenty. The search function does work, but not unless it's used.

Sour grapes. Bork should maintain his dignity by just being a quiet spectator. It would do wonders for the situation and him.

I admire Bork and my first reaction to Harriet was "WTF?". Im starting to think that was W's intention all along. While the MSM is lapping up the anger on the right they arent giving much press to the usual suspects on the left. She'll be confirmed without too much fuss and the SCOTUS will have a "Born Again" justice. I can live with that.

Bork is way, way over the top. True, Miers was not the perfect choice, but she's not unqualified. And leading a law firm of 400 in a fast-gwowing state is not something a moron could do successfully. As for her conservativism or lack of, no one can say that she's not an originalists or Constitutionalist. She may turn out to be an outstanding justice, and her critics will have to eat huge portions of crow.

Bush really had no good options. With Senate 'Rats threatening filibuster and RINO's wobbling, Bush simply made the best of a bad situation.

Since he's an angry old grump, that makes himwrong, or does it make him a DU'er?

I cant help wondering how much of the opposition to Ms Meirs stems from the lack of a "bleeding from the eyeballs" opposition from the liberal left. And I cant help but worry that the left, knowing they cannot defeat the candidate, are using a tepid, easily reversible, mild, nonsupport support to cause the more excitable elements of the right to defeat this person.

In other words, are we being played for a fool by Ted and little Dickie Durbin{child Senator}??

"Bushbots."

That's rather cute. But the idiot "Bushbots" somehow knew that Roberts was a good candidate, didn't they? And the little bots knew that nominating someone without a paper trail was a good idea, too. And you know what? The Bushbots nailed it and the nomination.

But now the little bots have it all wrong, huh?

Not wrong, just not a reliable witness.
