Wondering why it took bomb blasts in the UK to evoke this response...

In the statement, called a fatwa, the 18-member Fiqh Council of North America wrote that people who commit terrorism in the name of Islam were "criminals, not 'martyrs.' "There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism," the scholars wrote. "Targeting civilians' life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram - or forbidden."I like what they're saying, but they need to address the question within the context of passages from the Qu'ran and Hadith that on their face clearly justify such violence. Without resorting to verbal legerdemain or blindly denying what is obvious to anyone else, they need to explain how these verses are inoperative or inapplicable.

Islam and terrorism are forever linked.

And they can show me where this is supported in the Koran?
Sorry but what I have read from the Koran does NOT back up their statements.

It's a step in the right direction. It's probably pressure and being scared then actually giving a damn about us infidel Jews and Christians but what the hell, progress is progress.

September 12 would've been far, far more better and effective.

Leaders of major American Muslim organizations have taken pains since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to condemn terrorism and deny any religious justification for it. That statement is a flat out lie. They've taken pains to distance themselves from it and they say it's not allowed, but they always follow up with the line, "We need to understand why they did it," and then go into a five-minute rant about the evils of American foreign policy.

American Muslim Scholars Call Terrorism a Violation of Islamic Teaching Okay.
Am I supposed to believe that amongst Muslims, it takes the combined intellect of a bunch of scholars 4 years to figure out that terrorism is wrong?
Or am I supposed to believe that the strictures of the Muslim faith are difficult to interpret in a way that would make it possible to argue that terrorism is wrong?
How about I just continue to believe that Muslim-Americans have been content to sit on the fence knowing that their religion teaches murdering the infidel is their duty - only now being goaded into pretending to object to terrorism because they fear for their comfortably self-segarated existence in western world.

I'd like to say, "Finally!", but I'm afraid the american scholars are wrong.
When it comes to correctly interpreting Islam, the Wahabbists have it right. It's a religion of murder, mayhem, might makes right, and theocracy.
I guess it is commendable that some "religious" leaders got around to condemning murder. /sarcasm

I will believe Islam is opposed to terrorism -- ONLY after I see Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Yemen, Pakistan, etc, etc, etc.......start arresting, prosecuting and executing KNOWN terrorists, KNOWN supporters of terrorists, KNOWN Clerics preaching Jihad by terrorism, KNOWN members of Royal Families and Government "leaders" who speak out in favor of terrorism and Jihad against the Non-Muslim world.....
It ain't gonna happen....

Interesting, did they do this after 9/11?

According to Islamic teaching, the jihadist "radicals" are the closest thing to proper, practicing Muslims. Everything they do is sanctioned in the Koran. Every bloody thing!
It's the moderates who choose not to hate infidels who are actually the real radicals.

The Koran uses the principle of making a Hudna (pretense of making peace) when the enemy is strong, and using that period to making oneself stronger than the enemy. And after the enemy is weak to attack the enemy by giving offense and provoking the enemy.

Let's see, modern terrorism started during the 1972 Olympics so that means that it only took them 1/3 of a century to come up with this statement. At this rate, the Muslim community ought to be up to the 21st century around the year 7822.

I am glad that the statement was made...but why now?
Why not in late September of 2001?
I will remain very guarded regarding these people's intentions until I see, over an extended period of time, much more than very lately phrased words.
