Doctors Doubt Darwinism
JEWISH WORLD REVIEW.COM ^ | JUNE 3, 2005 | Drs. Michael A. Glueck & Robert J. Cihak

If you believe you are just a blob of cellular tissue, please raise your right protoplasm.

Does your own doctor treat you like a human being, or just an accidental collection of chemicals, haphazardly arranged by dumb chance?

A recent poll by the Louis Finkelstein Institute for Social and Religious Research suggests an answer. The poll finds that 60 percent of doctors reject the mechanistic Darwinian belief that "Humans evolved naturally with no supernatural involvement — no divinity played any role." Only 38 percent of the doctors polled agreed with this statement.

Given their "hands on" experience with individual human beings, doctors appreciate the intricate design implicit in every part of the body. For example, an eye surgeon knows the intricacies of human vision in detail; so vague evolutionary stories about how the eye appeared by a process of random variation and selection do not overawe him.

Darwin himself said, "if it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down."

Ideas have consequences. The idea that you might be nothing more than a collection of chemicals thrown together by mutation and natural selection has consequences which nobody in his right mind should want to hear about. Most people have probably forgotten who Karla Homolka is; she's getting out of jail in a couple of weeks and a movie about her activities is coming out shortly. She and her former husband were into treating people as if they were just collections of chemicals and there were no more consequences involved than if that were the case. The former husband's in for the duration with the bars welded shut rather than locked.

Doctors are technicians. They are taught to maintain and repair the machinery, not how it was built.

If I evolved according to Darwin, given only 4.6 billion years or so, I would still be pond scum.

And Darwin was a theorist, who admitted that his theory of evolution could not be proved. Do you have proof?

1.54 percent of the atheists believe that God initiated and guided an evolutionary process that has led to current human beings. Figure that one out.

150 years of scientific examination have proved the Theory of Natural Selection against the attack of Ellen G White and her successors

Some folks don't take polls all that seriously.

I see 81% or so attribute the development of life to evolution, with the only disagreement between them on whether God initiated and guided it. Sounds good to me!

What you call "Darwinism" is not opposed to theistic guidance; it just doesn't require it.

Fortunately, mounting evidence in the medical sciences points in a different direction — toward the conclusion that you and I were designed for a purpose.

Why can't Evolution and Intelligent Design be part and parcel of the same beginning?

Why not hypothesize a scenario where both theories work together? Take Mars for example.

Let’s take a look at what the scientific community sees as a long term goal for Mars.

Almost all scientists agree that terra forming Mars is not only possible but desirable. It would make a great place for humans to go after the earth became overcrowded.

Let’s further suppose that Mars is well on its way to becoming a habitable planet capable of supporting life as humans know it. There are proto birds flying in its atmosphere, proto fish swimming in its oceans, and proto hominids walking on its surface. All these came from earth labs, and are “evolving” to survive on a foreign planet.

Now, let’s kill off the humans. Either by war, disease or by another asteroid, humans become extinct, and the earth is a lifeless ball floating in space. But, life on Mars continues to flourish and evolve until one day Martians begin to ask the questions: Where did we come from? How did we “evolve”?

Some Martians will say that “God designed us”. Other will say “We evolved from Martian soil alone”. Whose right? Both are right. We can have creatures that were basically intelligently designed in earth labs, but evolved to adapt to their Martian surroundings.

The interesting thing about this kind of scenario is that many scientists will not even consider it plausible even though many of those same scientists are actively pushing for intelligently designing other planets for us.

In Darwin's time, the cell was just a black box, a great unknown. The discovery that in fact, all cells possess astounding complexity and meticulously calibrated function has convinced a growing number of scientists that modern evolutionary theory is utterly inadequate to explain how this complex organism could have developed.

It may be inadequate but at least it's scientific.

Kind of like the NY Times statement on the Bush memos: "fake but accurate".

I don't know if you are correct. When I went to medical school I took a lot of courses in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Embryology, Histology, Pathology, Internal Medicine, and on and on. Then I spent 5 years in a General Surgery Residency. Then I learned to deal with problems technically. Before I did all of that crap, I took a Masters Degree in Pleistocene Paleontology, and before that A BS in Bilogy and Chemistry.

After all of that I have concluded that randomness, an anaerobic environment for origination of primitive amides, amines, peptides, and so on, fail to explain the millions of specific purine-pyrimidine base pairs that direct the development of an individual, which direct the manufacture of simple proteins and complex proteins, the origination of genes which turn on and turn off at a spectic physiologic and developmental stage to give rise to even the most primitive organism, much less vertebrate complexity. I also find it difficult to dispose of the first and second laws of thermodynamics, nothwithstanding those who explain it away with the idea of sequestration of closed systems, as a theory but without dispositive evidence. In the final analysis origins must be dealt with by faith. Faith in the evolutionary model or faith in a transendent God, not part of this universe, but separate and distinct from this universe who can reach into His universe with love, mercy, redemption thru His Son Jesus. We have over 500 eyewitnesses who saw him raised. That is enough evidence to even convict Jackson. But in the final analysis, ones faith must be the tool one chooses to deal with origin.
