" Lets be realistic, what percentage of Ipod users are really capable of doing this, and it's still $30 for the battery:

http://www.ipodbattery.com/ipod2k4install.htm"

OMG that is so difficult what is that in the picture, holy mother it's a screwdriver what the bloody hell is that complex piece of equipment and how do you use it? And fingers, you mean I have to use my fingers holy !@#$ I don't know how to do that.

Sarcasm intended and implied.

I wasn't disputing the existence of Click Death, just its frequency. Interesting that several people on this thread alone have experienced it. Makes it more widespread than I thought.

My understanding of clickdeath was that it was downright inevitable. But I only know what I read.

Does your battery powered Sony Walkman say not to open it?

The point is that the battery is no maintenance, rechargable and long lasting (which it is, despite this shocking "news" story). The point is not having a detatchable battery pack and clunky transformer lost somewhere in the house. The point is to have the unit charged and ready to go when they put in their music files.

Sales seem to indicate people like that. YMMV.

I've put stuff from LimeWire onto the iPod and I am very far from being a computer scientist. You just click on "add a file" on iTunes and go to the folder you have the files stored in. It automatically converts WMAs to AAC, but it leaves the mp3 files as they are.

"Just what am I being vague about."

You were vague about whatever "Logic pro" has to do with my post. It means nothing to me.

"What is it about you are wrong about so many things do you not understand?"

Wow. That's some pretty insulting invective, particularly when it's coming from a person who apparently has a lot of trouble with sentence structure and punctuation.

Do you have Nero? You might be able to covert the AAC format using that.

Not to distract from the iPod too much, but I have had several Zip Drives in diffrent machines and never experienced it. I am a focus group of one, however.

We now resume our iPod thread, already in progress.

This is a very old video. The apple site now has battery replacement for $99.

I wasn't disputing the existence of Click Death, just its frequency.

The problem wasn't in the malfunction, but in Iomega's firm denial of the problem.

Apple (and other companies) could learn from that, if this battery-life scandal is even an issue.

We just got something cool - it's an Alpine car deck that controls your iPod, which you connect to a cable inside your glove box. Pop it in there, shut the door, forget about it, and control your iPod from your stereo.

We didn't replace the speakers, but what an upgrade in the sound - amazing. We bought two of them.

My wife loves her creative nomad, and the batteries are as easily replaced as you would replace the batteries on a cell phone. She has the 40 ghz model, and will probably have to wait a long time before she gets even close to filling the drive.

The ipods inflexibility will be its downfall

You may have been talking about a IIgs, but your statement implied Apple products still act the way they did almost twenty years ago, even though there have been multiple processor, technology and OS shifts since then. Then, when someone helpfully suggested you let go of that grudge, you re-iterated a twenty-year old grudge and then moved the goalposts by bringing in the "cost" defense.

I'd like to say this attitude is rare amongst computer users, but it's not. It's kind of sad, to see people who can be rational and reasonable and intelligent about any other subject, but bring up Apple - and boy does it get immature fast!

It's a COMPUTER. It's a tool. Do you go around making fun of and criticizing everyone who uses a different brand of hammer than you do?

I've used Apple computers since the Apple II, and yes, there were periods, like under Sculley and Schindler, where their products were so bad, I almost went 100% Windows. But, I stuck to my guns, kept using BOTH (for what each is good for), and now Apple sells the G5, the most stable, fast, easy to use and slick machine they've ever had. Mac OS X runs rings around Windows XP, IMHO, and I don't have to worry AT ALL about viruses, trojans, pop-ups, calling Apple everytime I want to reinstall the OS - it just works. Yes, there are small issues that pop up, but for the most part it works, and works damn well. I make a decent living using them, and right now, Macs running the G4 and G5 using Mac OS X 10.3 are the most stable machines they have ever made. People who slam Mac OS X clearly have never used it, or tried ot for 5 minutes, got frustrated because "it was'nt XP", and gave up. Everyone I know who's used Mac OS X for more than half an hour, loves it.

I like my Toshiba laptop. I really do - but Windows is so flaky now, I have to spend so much time keeping it updated, fixing things when updates break things (I gave up on SP2), and worrying about not putting ANY personal data on it lest it become compromised, that it's beeing used less and less these days - and I keep it OFF the Internet at all times, now. (I download what updates I can on my G5, write them to a flashdisk or CDR, and sneakernet them). I really hope Longhorn is the big fix we need, because until then, it just looks grim for XP, as far as my personal useage goes.

I'm happy you found tools that do what you need, but there's really no reason to make disparaging remarks about a company and it's products from your experiences almost twenty years ago - on a different OS platform - in an attempt to slam current users of that companies products. It's not real mature, now is it?

Or, at the very least, if you're going to slam Mac users, get a new arguement, yours is torn, faded, and dog-eared.

This Report is BS

I replaced mine with one I bought on Ebay. It even came with a case opening tool and directions. It isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world, but it's not rocket science either.

"The fact that the i-pod firmware blocks all other major music websites other than i-tunes also indicates that they are trying to create a monopoly for online music distribution. monopoly=more cash for Apple. "think different" indeed."

I buy my music from Walmart.com and have never had a problem using it on my Ipod. I also have all of my MP3 files on my Ipod. You don't have to use Itunes at all. Check your facts.

" You were vague about whatever "Logic pro" has to do with my post. It means nothing to me."

You said macs had crappy apps, I listed some apps that are far from crappy. I think everyone but you understood that.

" particularly when it's coming from a person who apparently has a lot of trouble with sentence structure and punctuation."

Now who is being insulting? This is a forum board, I am not writing a paper for college.

But you did not tell me what % of Ipod users you think are capable of replacing this battery. Seriously, consider the hundreds of thousands of ditsy college Ipod users and generally technically inept people in th world.
