It's common sense to hunt first, drink later (nonsense alert)

No matter how devoted you are to multitasking, some things obviously shouldn't be done simultaneously, such as driving and putting on mascara. State Sen. Kenneth Stolle, R-Virginia Beach, wants to add drinking and hunting to that list.

Since it's already illegal in the commonwealth to hunt while under the influence of alcohol or drugs , Stolle's bill (SB 1149) -- which the state Senate passed unanimously -- would set the blood alcohol limit for hunters (.02) even lower than it now is for drivers (.08). Who'd have a problem with that?

The Newington-based Virginia Citizens Defense League apparently does. VCDL is upset that Stolle's bill includes an implied consent provision, which would allow the state to administer breathalyzyer tests to hunters just like it does to people suspected of drinking while driving cars or boats.

Hunters shouldn't beef about being treated the same way, even though the blood alcohol levels for them would be set considerably lower than for drivers.

Guns and alcohol, which impairs judgment, just don't mix.

So hunt first, drink later -- and stop complaining.

Well, let's start with problem number one. The bill included implied consent. Meaning that the fact that you were hunting was implied consent to be breathalyzed. It's a slippery slope. Having a driver's license already means implied consent. Now a hunting license is? What's the next? Being pregnant? Walking your dog?

Then let's follow up with the .02 BAC issue. You could be above that if you had a beer with lunch or taken cough syrup because you had a cold. So you can be driving your car in a school zone with a BAC of .079 and be legal in VA, but be sitting out in a tree stand the middle of nowhere with a BAC of .021 and be commiting a crime.

Note that the Virginia mainstream media's RINO of choice, Sen. Ken Stolle, is quoted.

Bull crap. Licences don't stop unqualified people from doing things. The kind of people who like deciding who gets the licences are not usually good judges of (or the type to care about) competence. You'd end up with only Democrats getting "Procreation Licences".
