Backing Limbaugh, ACLU goes to court

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Rush Limbaugh and the American Civil Liberties Union do not agree about much, but they are in accord that the conservative radio commentator's medical records should be off-limits to prosecutors.

The Florida ACLU filed court papers yesterday supporting Limbaugh's argument that investigators violated his constitutional right to privacy when they seized his medical records in November to investigate whether he violated drug laws when he purchased prescription painkillers.

"It may seem odd that the ACLU has come to the defense of Rush Limbaugh," the state chapter's executive director, Howard Simon, said in a statement. "But we have always said that the ACLU's real client is the Bill of Rights, and we will continue to safeguard the values of equality, fairness, and privacy for everyone, regardless of race, economic status, or political point of view."

If I recall he didn't ask them to help him.

They just jumped in to help protect everyones rights, or so they are always saying. ha ha

Although I think Rush said that if they wanted to help him, he didn't mind.

Small point but at least he didn't ask them.

"They're only evil 99% of the time."

I agree. You know, back when I was a member (1996?) I had joined because not only did I see them marching with KKK folks, but I saw them, one time, defend a kid who said her hero was Jesus - the school said she couldn't draw a picture of Jesus and bring it to class. They were wrong. I saw other things like this and thought they were ok. I was wrong too :) This Rush stunt is just that - a stunt. They hate him, everything about him, and are trying to prove how unbiased they are. And just today, I go to the site to see the top articles and they are all critical of the Bush administration - the only administration who has ever taken terrorism seriously. Screw them.

I don't care for the ACLU. I agree, the ACLU is as far left as they can be. HOWEVER, I am glad they, or someone like them exist. Their views, their constant opposition gives me a reason to think over my own position. It merely makes me more sure of where I stand, or on rare occassions, makes me rethink where I stand.

You know, I'm going to get flamed big for this, but what the heck, it's cold and it's Friday!

Actually, it was a neo-Nazi organization that wanted to march in Skokie, Illinois. And yes, these gestures are so rare and far between, I do not believe they are sincere in the least. They ignore 2d Amendment rights, property rights, and fervently promote religious persecution of Christians. Except for Limbaugh and Skokie, they consistently side with leftist, anti-American causes. Once in a blue moon they see an identity of interests with something other than the leftist movement. Skokie coincides with gay rights and environmental activism, and the Limbaugh case goes to medical privacy, upon which Roe v. Wade was based.

Exactly, Rush should tell them to back off. The ACLU is the constitutions greatest enemy.

The ACLU, I think, helped along with Alan Dershowetz(sp?)with getting Jim Bakker's (PTL) sentence lowered. (He was guilty but the sentence went way overboard). I was surprised by both when it happened. The problem is neither helps conservative causes enough to be relevant to me. In the case of the ACLU...it just needs to die. They do way more harm than good.

"the ACLU's real client is the Bill of Rights, and we will continue to safeguard the values of equality, fairness..."

Other than the fact that they think the Bill of Rights is there to protect socialism.../

IMHO the aclu is a day late and a dollar short. Why are they just coming to Rush's "aid" NOW? How long has his case been in the news, and these commie scum are just now announcing they are going to do something?

HA!

The most they would do is file some phoney "Friend of the Court" brief and blow their own horn. IMO, they just saw the writing on the wall--Rush has this case won with his own lawyers, and the aclu is just piling on so they can show how magnamimous they are.

THE ACLU IS GOING TO COURT TO PROTECT MEDICAL PRIVACY FOR ABORTION RIGHTS NOT RUSH!!!

The fear of the ACLU types is the medical privacy issue which is crucial for keeping abortion procedures out of the eyes of the law.

The ACLU does not care about rush, they are just attending to their leftist agenda. If Rush looses this case, the left looses a shield in their cases.

They're only evil 99% of the time.

Let's say 99.8% and then we agree... LOL.

Nonsense! The Anti-American Civil Liberties Union's motive is what counts, and they are EVIL 100% of the time.

I don't believe Rush had anything to do with the ACLU hopping aboard. I also do not believe Rush will lighten up on his attacks on the ACLU. He runs from nobody.

So now Rush is citing Right to Privacy as outlined in the 14th to prevent the police from obtaining his medical records.

If Rush is willing to argue that case he should not only have the ACLU on his side but also the Baby Killers at NARAL.
