Court: Parents Can't Eavesdrop on Children

SEATTLE – Striking a blow for rebellious teenagers, the Washington Supreme Court ruled Thursday that state law prohibited parents from eavesdropping on a child's phone conversations.

The case reached the high court because of a purse-snatching. A 17-year-old boy was convicted of the robbery, in part on testimony from his girlfriend's mother, who overhead him discussing the crime on the phone with her daughter.

The daughter had taken a cordless phone into her bedroom and closed the door. In another room, her mother pressed the speakerphone button on an extension, listened in and took notes. The court ruled that the daughter and her boyfriend had a reasonable expectation of privacy on the phone. Washington law prohibits intercepting or recording conversations without the consent of all participants.

"The Washington privacy statute puts a high value on the privacy of communications," Justice Tom Chambers wrote in the unanimous opinion.

The boyfriend will get a new trial.

Common sense is missing among the WA State Supremes. Apparently they never heard of the fact parents are supposed to look out for their children's interests and a child's privacy is a matter of privilege.

Exactly! The old adage, "My house, my rules!" comes to mind

The headline is misleading. That is not what the decision said.

I remember when I was 13 saying something stupid to my mother and then slamming the door. I cant remember what it was about, and it was irrelevant either way. Anyway, my dad scared the crap out of me when the entire door literally shot across my room.

I never slammed a door again....

Let me see if I understand this... If the police wanted to listen into the call, the kids couldn't grant consent because they're under 18 and it would require parental permission. But if a parent listens in, they're committing a crime?

And since when does an error committed by a civilian affect a trial? The parent did wrong, but it is the state who is punished?

If a buddy of his came forward telling about the crime, admitting that he helped his bud get away, that would be considered valid evidence.

This is just plain stupid, through and through. Shame that no legislature has the guts to impeach these idiots and get them off the bench.

When the rights of the person paying the bills are overridden by some liberal judge, it's time to let the progeny fly the coup!

Young lady, you live in our house under our rules or we will allow the State to decide where you will live.
I decide when the lights go out and the doors are locked at night. You had better be inside if you want to sleep inside.
Your mother makes the rules on what you will wear.
Your mother makes the rules on who you wll associate with.
Your mother and I make the rules for everyone in this house, not teenagers.
If you want to be a part of this home, you obey the adults, not revolt against them.
Do you understand me?

1) Is the following list real? I saw this list posted here, and I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything else about it, since I have not made time to verify it yet.

Towards the bottom ...

* Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

...the judges are not stupid. According to this list, they are simply carrying out the plan.

Only Christ can help us.

EXCERPTS FROM NAKED COMMUNIST

Former FBI agent, Cleon Skoussen, in 1958, in his book, THE NAKED COMMUNIST, revealed among other things, these long term goals of the communist agenda. The information is in the Congressional Record August 1963 and in the Communist Manifesto:

* U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
* Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the U.S. would be a demonstration of moral strength.
* Permit free trade between all nations regardless of communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
* Provide American aid to all nations regardless of communist domination.
* Set up East West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.S.
* Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the United Nations.
* Promote the United Nations as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces.
* Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
* Do away with loyalty oaths.
* Capture one or both of the political parties in the U.S.
* Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
* Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current communist propaganda. Get control of the teachers associations.
* Gain control of all student newspapers.
* Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.
* Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures.
* Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them censorship and a violation of free speech and free press.
* Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures and TV.
* Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as normal, natural and healthy.
* Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with social religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a religious crutch.
* Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principles of separation of church and state.
* Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
* Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the grounds that it was only a minor part in the big picture.
* Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the communist apparatus.
* Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
* Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
* Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents.
* Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American traditions; that students and special interest groups should rise up and use united force to solve economic, political and social problems.

In my journalism law class, the professor [an attorney herself] told us of a story about a parent eavesdropping on her mid-teen daughter who was arranging a rendevous with a middle-aged man. The pedophile did get busted, but he subsequently filed a complaint against the parent for wiretapping, resulting in a conviction for the parent as well.

Needless to say, this story created considerable uproar in the class. I'll see if I can find it...

They are so nearly there.

But he missed at least three.

* Eliminate the word communism and replace it with democratic. This will fool the people into thinking communism is democratic.

* Reform the USSR into separate "Democratic" states.

* In Europe rename communism socialism create E. U. as first step to combining it with the USSR. Do same with North America (except USA) and South America.

And they are so very very close right now. All they need is a few more years. Thankfully GW won ans set them back a few years otherwise we might already be there.

Yet another ruling to help usurp family cohesiveness and parent control.

This case has nothing to do with parental control. In this instance, the blame lies with the legislature, not the court. In this case, the court simply applied the clear meaning of the law.

The Federal wire tapping statue does allow parents to evesdrop on minor child. The intent of congress notes clearly spell this out.
