First of all, I love George W. Bush being our President. The War on Terrorism, tax cuts, Social Security reform, school vouchers, and morals (and not staining the White House rug). However, I cannot for the life of me figure out why he wants to reward people for breaking the law. I believe President Reagan did something similar (probably a compromise with the Dems), and soon after illegal immigration shot up. Just by President Bush mentioning his illegal alien "worker's program" in 2000-2001, soon after illegal immigration shot up. When you reward people for breaking the law, guess what is going to happen. I know when he believes in something, he goes for it, and usually gets most of it. I admire him for that, convictions. But wrong is wrong, and that is typically a characteristic I also admire him for, no gray areas, knowing right from wrong. Yes I know that most of these illegal aliens are trying to make the best of their life and their family's life in the greatest country in the world. But we currently have one of the most liberal immigration policies in the world. For someone to BREAK THE LAW and come over here illegally, it is like butting in line. I just hope the Conservatives in Congress hold the fort on this one. The word is even out that Hillary Clinton may be on the right of W on this one (obviously pure politics). The President does have capital to spend, but not on this issue. If he wants the chance of 60 Senators to work with after the next midterm election, he needs to use that common sense he so often shows.
Why is everyone so upset with the illegals? This is like the Emperor's clothes. Obviously no one wants to deal with illegal immigration. It's real simple, you follow them to work, and arrest thier employers. No jobs, no illegal aliens. No border problems.
Yeah, like that is going to happen. Why does no one talk about this aspect of the problem?
Leave it like it is.
You are exactly corrrect. If these companies got fined, or the folks doing the hiring were charged, then the problem would be severely lessoned. That is something, including myself, that folks often forget about. Both need to be done, but yeah, no one appears to have the guts. I thought Ashcroft would, but it starts at the top.
"Leave it like it is"
After 9-11, I'm not sure how bright that would be. But since, that's pretty much what we have done. And it's about to get worse.
I just don't understand why W doesn't get that part of National Security. Why isn't he pushing for this in the current bill on hold because of a couple of brave representatives? The American people would overwhelming support him. It's called common sense. Illigals should not be rewarded for breaking the law, and they surely should not get legal driver's licenses.
If the guest worker plan doesn't suit you, what does?
I saved that one. Great pic.
President Bush was shown on NBC news tonight. He was saying he supports the immigration/security measures being proposed by Representatives Hunter and Sensenbrenner and he will send letters to each member of Congress on Monday telling them to support it!
Hunter of California and Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin are two of the strongest proponents of immigration reform.
HELLO???
Why is there NEVER a call to attack the problem from the employer/hiring side? So much easier and less messy internationally.
You know what ping.
" If the guest worker plan doesn't suit you, what does?"
Enforce the current law would be the first step.
What many of you are missing is that legal immigration has almost shut down. My wife's daughter should be able to immigrate 1.5 years after we apply as the adult daughter of a citizen. Note, this is the first and highest family preference. However, the process has ground to a halt and in the last 10 months the process has only moved one month. That means the first priority class will likely take at least 10 years. I love George Bush, but what has happened is that they have shut down legal and encouraged illegal immigration.
We need o fill the void left by 44 million aborted workers to help fix Social Security, but Bush is going about it the wrong way.
That is GREAT news. I did not know that. Thanks for the update. This is why I have become a FREEPER!
How many busloads will be required to deport 12 million.
