George Phillips of Meridian Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.
George opened the back door to turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing items.
He phoned the police, who asked Are any of those people in your house?
George said no.
The officer then said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply stay in his house; lock his doors and an officer would be along when available.
George said, Okay, hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. Hello I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all.
Then he hung up.
Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips residence.
Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: I thought you said you shot them !
George said, I thought you said there was nobody available!
True Story
thought you might get a kick out of this one
LOL - Very good!
Lock and load...just use your head.......
I'm wondering if they charged him with filing a false report - do you know?
im not sure if he was or not i just got this story in my email a little while ago i l lcheck it out on goole in a little bit
It's a good story but most likely an apocryphal one. In real life, as we all know, the police would have locked up the man for filing a false report and by the time he got through paying court costs and fines, he'd have to sell his house to pay for it all.
Very astute!
Not unless you want a very messy, painful and lonely demise. In today's world, few will "get involved." Instead....yell FIRE!!!! Nobody wants to burn. Help will come, quickly.
The link in post#11 said it all:
The three police officers who were pulled off other cases to converge on the hostage call were not amused by the ruse, and arrested its perpetrator, Paul Weymouth, the 63-year-old pastor of Heights Christian Church, on charges of filing a false report. Weymouth has since been released on $1,000 bail, pending trial.
If your propery's outside your house, you can't do anything to protect it without the cops. Whatever you do, you're in jail, because the court system has been loaded in favor of the criminal for a long time. Deadly force is legal if and only if you and/or your family's safety is on the line; even if you open up a can of whoopass you'll be charged with assault, plus the mutt will sue you and win.
Short of devising a security system that can't be defeated and keeping it insured to the hilt, I can think of no options in your favor. So if anyone's got any suggestions, feel free to share them.
Sounds more like the mentality of the Mecosta County, Michigan. Sheriff's dept. to me, "Rather" than Meridian, Mississippi.
At least if the scum breaks into your house in the US, there is still something of a presumption of self-defense if you use deadly force to protect yourself. That isn't true in much of Europe.
That said, you never know what the prosecutor and judge will do while second guessing your actions.
The response time where I live is pretty good-some punk tried to rob me in my own apartment a couple of months back, and after he was gone I called 911. Four squad cars showed up in about ten minutes or less.
What are you allowed to do in the given situation?
no - shoot the criminals and then drag one of them to your door and lay him across the doorway FACING IN!
