Refreshed 10/2/2004

This was a funny thread. It seemed appropriate to refresh it, since we're all suffering withdrawals. It's pretty much still relevant, and I'm sure lots more can be added after all the hours we were down....and will be down again tonight.

What Discoveries Did You Make While FR Was Down?

Posted on 10/18/2001 10:56:47 PM CDT by Texaggie79

Personally, I realized that this World Wide Web thingamajig has other sites on it. Then I realized that I have legs. I then realized that there is a world outside.

Strange world that is. I'm not going back. </ sarcasm>

I thought about how they could make baseball more interesting, by letting the batter carry the bat with him, to try and gain bases, and you could put the basemen in pads, to try to defend themselves....ok, I stole that idea from Cracked magazine..but everytime I'm forced to watch baseball, I think that BaseBrawl would be better.

I went over to Lucianne.com and discovered how they must be more intelligent posters in that more of them agreed with my assessment that the House of Reps were cowards than did on FR

Then I wondered why this was.

Then I wondered if Newt Gingrich would have ever shut down the House under these circumstances.

Then I actually tried to register at L.com and did the whole thing, hit enter, and got an error message.

Then I tried to remember about the note about being down from 1 am to something. Then I wondered what the hell time it was in California, even what day.

Then, God forgive me, I went and read the entire Washington Post Online. Even read Richard Cohen and marveled that he seems to be getting more conservative every day. My husband rants and rails about Cohen every time he reads the man so much so that I dread when Coehn writes one of his kooky missives that will cause my husband to come home in a bad mood.

It was interesting.

"I think that BaseBrawl would be better."

Intentional beaning by the defense should also be allowed as an alternate means of outing a base runner...

The batter's head should be included as part of the strike zone...

The, "designated hitter," should have a last name like, "Gravano."

I never knew Ray Stevens did the theme music to "Cannonball Run" before tonight.

Ray created and produced songs like "Guitarzan" and "The Streak" ... but even his closest friends do not bring up THAT gig in his presence.

Saw some pics of some VERY cool new Zion guitars; really great flame tops, etc., etc. A bud has an older one, but it leaves me cold.......THESE look fine. Kramer has an el-cheapo but cool double-neck: acoustic and electric 6-strings. Could be interesting; only $600. Crappy reviews of new guitar processors, but some intriguing ones out, nonetheless. Damned if I don't still really want a Paul Reed Smith, though...........

Or, if you mean the guitar anthem from "Top Gun", it was Steve Stevens - hell of a guitar player, used to play for Billy Idol, IIRC.

Ya'll are scaring me. I went over to the FR Yahoo club site and had fun in the chat room.... Cheers, CC :)

I love the intellectual discussions on the Yahoo back-up site....

“FR must be down.”

“Yep, it’s down.”

“I wonder why it’s down?”

“I don’t know, but it’s down.”

“Is FR down?”

“I don’t know, I’ll check.”

“Yep, it’s down.”

“I wonder why it’s down?”

“Notice to everyone: FR is down..... Johnrob”

“Hey! I can get on to FR!!! Are we being attacked???”

“No, there’s been no attack. The flux capacitor loop in Elco Nevada lost synch and the rerouter is sending our signal through Siberia where it’s being blocked by a Unex fliper signal blocker and a bad ISP intergalactic link with the Op Sat that serves the Detroit time-base corrector. We’ll have it fixed in a minute.... Johnrob”

“Does anyone know if FR is down?”

“Yes, FR is down.”

Since you asked...

I found a truly fascinating website with a radio broadcast about an American warship called the USS Liberty. The Liberty was attacked by Isreal during the 6 day war (1968), and the whole thing was covered up at the HIGHEST LEVELS of government.

The guest on the broadcast is a crewmen from the liberty who explains why Johnson covered it up and why he ordered three separate Navy Admirals to turn-around there rescue flights while American Navy-men were dying in that attack!

Here's the link to the broadcast...

Is there a cure?

I've found a good temporary cure is a severe verbal gang pile up when yer on the "wrong" side of an issue. That kinda thing usually weans me off for a day or two. "I just look at FR for the articles, I swear I don't post"...

Thank you. I hope others don't mind, now that I finally got up the courage to post. I wonder if I'd get special dispensation to change my signup date - it really is upsetting.

I discovered that your wives are all at MY house. Will you get them out of here--they keep yelling at me to get off the computer and tell them if I really think they look fat in their new slacks.

Wow! Another odd date coincidence. (Yep -- looked ya up!) *G* You joined on the date that my second husband, Keith, and I were married! Except we married in 1986. (He died of pancreatic cancer in 1996.) ;-{

Still -- spooky enough!

Never seen leg braids before?? *VBG* ;-}

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It also happens to be my mother's birthday.

As for leg braids, it's safe to say I hope I NEVER see them. Nothing personal against you, of course...

Ugh! The thought alone!

I learned that there are worse things than FR being down for a couple of hours. Like when you come home from a Freep and find that your techie husband has dismantled the computer and gone to work til 2 AM! These have been the worst 18 hours of my life! I am traumatized now.... grin.

I know exactly how that is. How many computers do you have running in your house? We have 5, all built by him. I swear he on the floor working on the CPU than he is ACTUALLY using it. LOL! It's nice having your very own IS department tho.

Did I miss anything?

I discovered I'm more addicted than I thought I was.

Luckily for me, we had soccer practices most of the morning, and then lunch and stuff, so it wasn't too bad.

I looked at the Yahoo site for a minute, but its just not the same. :-(

I discovered that there is NOTHING else like FR, in terms of its ability to deliver top news quickly.

And, I thought again about how I, and probably many of us, should support it more. ($35 coming today.)

I realized my house is filthy, my garden is overgrown, my cats are out of food and we are out of groceries. So, I thought I'd get my a$$ off the couch and take care of these things, but I refreshed my screen again and FR came back up, so all is good.

"I just spent the time washing my Pajamas so I would be ready when it came back online."

ROTFL! Good way to spend it. You'll be needing lots of pajamas the next few wekks.

Ladysmith, I decided just to refresh the thread and let everybody have some fun. I'll have to ping the originals that are still around.

I discovered, just now, that the FR budget is very small and pathetically in need of OUR support. Here's the budget. (Break out a credit card, mate.)

I spent a lot of time thinking and wondering who was responsible for setting Bush up.

Who sent him up to the podium so obviously tired and so obviously un-prepped.

The goddamn campaign manager set him up.
