Best news from Canada in 10 years! Little known fact: During the Vietnam war, over 30,000 Canadians came to the US to enlist in the military and served in Vietnam! They outnumber the cowards, who get all the publicity, who went the other direction by 10:1 or more.

I hear that they were upset because the model design looked too much like Bill Clinton.

Canadians always fought wars with the Americans.
It's only their recent liberal government that has broken with that tradition, and practicaly destroyed their army.
Liberals are scum no matter where they are.

Yup. And more than a few Yanks enlisted in the Canadian forces before December 7th, 1941, as well.

As a Canadian I tend to really agree with you on that. Those who were on assignment with the USA during the Iraw war did actually fight with the USA - something the liberal government was embarrassed to reveal. They should be ashamed of themselves for what they did to those troops. You know even to this day, my neighbour who is stationed out of CFB Kingston just got back from a six month plus stint (exchange assignment) at CENTCOM where he was helping out the Americans in Iraq.
I must admit I was happy that the Liberal (back in the 1990s) got their collective act together to eliminate the federal deficit and began dramtically reducing the debt. They have even decreased corporate and personal income taxes.
But on defence, they definitely get the "fail" grade. And not supporting the troops while they were in battle in Iraq ... well ... that's where they lost my vote in the last election.

Carter granted them amnesty in 1997? Didn't he already do that back in the 70's?

Excellent news...
Glad to see that the city council came to their senses and/or cents because I can guarantee you the "memorial" would have never seen the light of day, no matter what!

I hope there are more of your countrymen that will speak out against your present government. Canada and the US have been great neighbors and staunch allies for many years and the actions of your government and some of your fellow citizens hurts me as an American.
I spent my honeymoon in Canada and several vacations as well, but that will end unless Canada gets back on the track as a neighbor (neighbour) and ally.
Now is not the time for division, it is the time for ALL civilized nations to stand together and get rid of a common enemy: the Islamofascists.

If I am not mistaken, Carter granted the draft dodgers amnesty in 1976.

There was a patriotic Jimmy Cagney movie about that called Captains of the Clouds from 1942.

My step-dad couldn't qualify for the Army Air Force in 1940 but went across at Detroit-Windsor and joined the RCAF. He became a trainer of Canadian pilots for the war's duration.

Yeah there are lots who support but unfortunately there are a lot of people that are against the war in Iraq. I think our MSM allong with yours has not helped either. Quebec has a huge population that were against the effort in Iraq and I think that is what the government was playing too last year. Unfortunately (or fortunately)there was a money scandal and most quebecers did not vote for the libs in the last federal election - so I think what the libs did backfired.
Fortunately the government of the day has come out in support of the US effort in Iraq and has sent a few hundred million and is taking part in training police in Iraq. Of course the official military is at sea in the Gulf and I think 700 troops are still in hafganistan. No troops other than those on exchange are officially taking part in the effort in Iraq.
So you spent some time here - great. Hope you enjoyed yourself. I have been to a lot of places in the US. Our next trip is to Virgina Beach in a few weeks to relax. I have never been there so I am looking forward to the experience.
Take care

If Paul Martin is the guy your talking about, I will clearly tell you that he never supported the US effort in Iraq. He voted against it in the House of Commons. He wants to make it seem that he supports the US to try and win right wingers over to him. BTW, Chretien sent troops in Afghanistan before he did. Actually, he sent more than Martin did.

The majority already had their senses.

You do realize that by possibly boycotting Canada, you'll be hurting the business community more than the government. It is the politicians, scholars and media that, for the most part, are the real problems here. By and large, the businesses here do not fall for the anti-American rhetoric. By boycotting businesses, you'd essentially be hurting the wrong element.

I've been a guest of Free Dominion on more than one occasion. I'm well familiar with the hearty spirit of Canadians who's voices are overwhelmed by the scumbag liberals that infect both of our nations.

That is the problem I have. I like Canadians (mostly), I like the country, I have Canadian cousins, but as far as I know there has not been much pro-American outrage shown when there are anti-American statements made by people in the government, or like the booing of young American hockey players in Montreal. It does foster a sense of betrayal, similar to how you feel about a possible boycott. If I am wrong, and there has been outrage shown, then please correct me and show me where and when. I have similar problems with the claptrap put out by BBC news as well.
