WASHINGTON - In news releases and postings on John Kerry's campaign Web site as recently as last Friday, the Democratic presidential candidate is touted as the former vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.Kerry was not vice chairman and the claim has now been removed from Kerry's Web site.
According to the Senate Historical Office, Kerry never had the seniority to hold a leadership position on the committee -- though he was a member from 1993 until 2001.
The Kerry campaign says the claim was an error, but did not explain who made the error or how it went undetected. Bob Kerrey -- a former Democratic senator from Nebraska -- did serve as the Senate Intelligence Committee's vice chairman.
"John Kerry, Bob Kerrey -- similar names," said Kerry campaign spokesman Michael Meehan.
Republicans were less willing to see the misstatement as an innocent mistake.
"It's difficult to take John Kerry's claims about his intelligence experience seriously when one of his credentials is completely made up," said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Christine Iverson. "If he had shown up for Intelligence Committee hearings he would notice he wasn't vice chairman."

"If he had shown up for Intelligence Committee hearings he would notice he wasn't vice chairman."
Ouch!
Kerry's lies are so blatant that I'm starting to doubt his mental stability.
And if, for some reason, he did not review his web site and press releases for content, then he does not have the management skills necessary to handle the presidency.
I question the timing of this.
Gee, even his own campaign staffers don't know who he is.
Maybe it was Bob Kerry that spent Christmas in Cambodia?
No, No, no... say it like this:
It was seared - seared - into his memory that one Christmas he was the vice chairman.
I guess it is safe to say that he was vice chairman before he wasn't vice chairman.
You just cannot make this stuff up.
You know, I would almost think that Kerry's camp is playing a complicated double game here.
On the one hand, they have to maintain credibility on intelligence and national security matters, so the Senator makes all sorts of very public statements about supporting the CIA and salutes on TV and touts his Vietnam credentials (Did you know he served in Vietnam...?). This is designed to influence the moderate voter who really is not playing close attention, to give the impression that Kerry is not a security zero in an age of terrorism.
On the other hand, if Kerry really is strong on intelligence and national security issues, he risks alienating his Democrat base, which is strongly against the CIA, the Patriot Act, war in general and the War on Terror in particular. If they see Kerry as a legitimate pro-CIA, pro-war candidate, they will either stay home, or vote for Nader. So Kerry's positions are carefully modulated, nuanced even, to be ridiculous to anybody paying close attention. The fact that he is obviously lying over Cambodia and has voted against our intelligence agencies at every turn actually helps him with his base.
So by posturing in public and being revealed as a fraud on background actually lets John F'n Kerry have his cake and eat it too. It is up to the 'Pubbies to make sure he does not get away with it, to make sure that he is branded as dishonest and wanting to have it both ways on everything.
But there are smart people in the Bush 2004 campaign who are waaaay ahead of me on that score...
Kerry was the "secret" vice chairman
Is that anything that still shows up on Google cache? Or did it quickly go the way of his Sandy Burger-inspired (seemingly) statement on terrorism?
Wait until they find out who he REALLY is...
That sleaze, Meehan, should have been asked to expound on that little gem of wisdom.
And in a hidden compartment of his shoe, he has a tie given to him by Valerie Plame.
In absentia
Then, please point them out. I've yet to see any.
All I see is Karl Rove's condescending attitude: "Of COURSE they'll vote Republican - where ELSE are they gonna go?"
The volume has been turned up on the mind control of The Sheep, and that's where the Left has us on the ropes. The Sheep, and their votes, are theirs.
Now, THAT'S gonna leave a mark - THWAP!!!
