Poll: Voters Blame Corruption, Not Bedroom, For Gov's Resignation
McGreevey Will Resign In November
POSTED: 11:06 pm EDT August 16, 2004
UPDATED: 11:29 pm EDT August 16, 2004

TRENTON, N.J. -- The public weighs in on the controversy surrounding Gov. James E. McGreevey.

The consensus is that the governor's resignation has little to do with his sexual preference and more to do with corruption in his administration.

Nearly half of the people polled by Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind said corruption was the chief factor. Only eight percent said it was because he is gay.

Several of McGreevey's associates have been connected to scandals, though he has not been charged.

McGreevey admitted at a news conference last Thursday that he had a homosexual affair and would resign in November.

Forty-eight percent of those polled said he should resign now, compared to 42 percent who thought it wasn't necessary.

If a terrorist had been successful in his attack in New Jersey, I wonder what the % of people who would have said he should resign now..........and indicted for putting all the citizens of New Jersey in danger by hiring his loverboy as head of homeland security. My bet is it would have been 100%.

What did the other nearly 50% say? Because McGreevey's a swell guy?

What's more corrupt than delving into another man's feces tube?

Seriously, the fact that the guy is a freak (and a head case, good God look at his wife, and he is gay?? If that isn't mental illness I do not know what is), is more an embarrassment. An embarrassment for him as his secret life is out for all to see , and an embarrassment for the state of NJ for having such a guy as their governor. But that is far from the core issue here. The guy hired a guy for a no-show job ( so he is not the first guy to do it), a VERY important job to boot and all based on the fact he was thinking with (fill in the blank with whatever private parts are applicable). A man with that severe lack of judgment should not be governor. Like he thought he might not be found out. Hell, I got a past 1/20th as seedy as his and if I ran for public office I would be seeing National Enquirer writers around every corner (or a a Republican , Larry Flynt surrogates). They do say paranoia is just a heightened sense of awareness.

If you don't think homosexuality is a corrupt lifestyle, than you got your head screwed on wrong. Show me an honest homosexual, and I will show you someone who isn't going to be a homosexual much longer.

These Cipel allegations are just the tip of the iceberg. Rumor has it Cipel was one of many McGreevey boy toys, and there are others, some on the Jersey payroll. And there are so many non-sex related corruption scandals surrounding McGreevey I've lost count. He will likely be indicted soon on one or more of them.

That statement had the unique ability to make me shudder, laugh, and vomit simultaneously.

If convicted, you guys should demand that he be placed in solitary confinement. Otherwise, a stay in prison for him would be the equivalent of a normal man being locked in the Playboy mansion.

IF there are investigations into his administration (but we shouldn't hold our breath), we're going to find out that his homosexuality had little or nothing to do with his stepping down.

If the voters of NJ don't demand this immediate removal, they're hopeless. And I'm already thinking they are.
